It has been the means of many a Bible being opened by men who had scarcely ever read the Scrip- tures. Even in many prisons, pris oners had read" in daily papers of such birds being killed and that they carried a verse of Scripture. This caused the prisoner to turn his face toward God and repent. Jack Miner is a poor man fi nancially and will die a poor man because he is not only giving his whole time to study of bird life butls7and " hasTgiveh"every r' cent of money he possesses to feed and care for the feathered creatures which spend their summer and raise their young in Canada, and wmter inthe United States In his own words the bird man tells of his earlier life, and of his experiments and"study of " the" hab its of 7wild fowl: Jack Miner's Story At the age of thirteen I was brought from . the dear old .State of Ohio and liberated here in Can ada (a sportsman's paradise).- -1 took to the woods as naturally as a park hare, and soon everything from the Bob-White quail to the lordly moose became easy, as I studied their habits closely. There were twelve of us in our family, and a dollar bill looked like a horse blanket, so my eldest brother and I took to hunting for the market; and as practice makes perfect, we soon became expert shots, and by times left a bloody trail behind us. .However, thank God, we soon outgrew that cold-blooded practice, and hunted for sport only as mar ket hunting is not sport, but mur der in the first 'degree. "Sad io say, on November 15, 1898, my dear brother wascalled - from-me and taken over the Great Divide into the- beautiful "beyond, sothatwe are separated for a while. This made me study more than ever. I had positive proof that the wildest of these creatures knew us as their deadly enemies. This caused the low-hanging clouds to separate, let ting through the light of the fol lowing beautiful thought: Surely they would know a friend if they naa one; and although my attrac tions are all artificial, that lovable message is - now- a reality, for-1 have thousands of these feathered witnesses "that actually know my voice and at times will come down when I call them. I have learned a few notes of the wild goose lan guage, so that you may blindfold me and I will tell you a small per centage of their actions. I now have tags returned to me off the wild geese from North Carolina to Baffin Land, and over a hundred LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT Main - Streets - and - running thence with the W. side of Riverview Street N 4 E 70 feet to a stone: thence N 86 W 144 feet to a stone in J.
