Sunday school class of the First "Baptist church met at the homeof Mrs. Frank I. Mur ray Tuesday afternoon with the following members present: Mrs. E. R. Eller, Mrs. David Blaine, Mrs. J. H. Carelock, Mrs. W. M. Sutton, Mrs Joe Palmer, Mrs. Lau ra Baird, Mrs. Hyldah Shepherd, Mrs. Frank Tallcnt, Mrs. Mary Higdon, Mrs. J. Frank Ray, and Mrs. Frank I. Murray. After a discussion on the various reports the meeting was closed with a prayer by Rev. E. R. Eller. A delicious salad course was serv ed. HERMAN ELLIS HONORED WITH SHOWER Miss Gertrude Guffee entertained with a miscelleanous shower honor ing Mrs. Herman Ellis, nee Miss Louise Sutton, at the home of her grandfather, Mr. John E. Rickman, on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Ellis was presented many attractive gifts. . MRS. ELLER ENTERTAINS Y. W. A. CLASS Mrs. Eugene R. Eller delightfully entertained the Y. W. A. of the First Baptist church at her home on White Oak street last Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6, honoring the seniors in Y. W. A. The living room and dining room were dec orated with the class flower, lilacs, and with white burning tapers. The program of the afternoon in cluded the salutatory, class song, history, will, poem and valedictory. At the conclusion of the program a delicious salad course was served by the hostess. Each senior was presented a dainty powder puff. The seniors in Y. W. A. are Thelma Baldwin, Maybelle Bryant, Georgia Conley, Lois Henry, Emma Hyatt, Helen Joines, Mary B. Liles, Gertrude Shope, Kate Shope, Thel ma Welch and Marie Womack. SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERS TO MEET FRIDAY The Social Service workers of the Methodist church will meet in the basement of the church on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock for their regular monthly meeting. AH members are requested to be present. RECENT BRIDE HONORED AT SHOWER Mrs. Paul Swafford, a recent bride, was honored with a miscel leanous shower at the home of Mrs. Joseph Ashear on Palmer street. Mrs. Ashear and Mrs. Wade Moody, of Iotla, were joint hostesses. The honoree was recipient of manv lovely and useful gifts. The hostesses served delicious cake and punch. CARE-SMITH Miss Ruth Virginia Cabe and Don Smith were married at the home of the bride on Franklin Route 2, Sat nrdav evenintr at 7:30 o'clock with the Rev. B. W. Lefler, pastor of the bride, officiating. Mrs. Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie A. Cabe. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and is very popular among the younger social set. Mr. Smith, who was formerly of Roanoke, Va., is now an employee of the W. M. Ritter Lumber com- pany at Rainbow Springs. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Smith, of Roanoke, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Smith will make their home at Rainbow Springs. REV. AND MRS. BLOXHAM ENTERTAIN CONGREGATION The Rev. and Mrs. Frank Blox ham entertained a number of of friends and members of the con gregation of St. Agnes church at the rectory, Thursday evening, April 26. During the evening many amusing and interesting games were played, after which Mrs. Bloxham, assisted by her mother, Mrs. Ida Porter, and Miss Gladys Sellers, served refreshments. The Rev. and Mrs. J, A. Flan agan and two children will return to their home here this week, after spending two weeks visiting rela tives and friends in South Carolina. Mrs. Dewey Dent left Wednesday of the past week for Leaksville, where she will join her husband. Mrs. Dent before her marriage was Miss Helen Shepherd. Charlie Browning and Mr and Mrs. Charlie Browning, Jr., of" Bry son City, were here Sunday to at tend the all-day singing at the courthouse. C. S. Brown, Sr., made a busi ness trip to Atlanta, Ga., one day the past week. Miss Alba Peek, who underwent a serious operation at Angel hos pital last Friday, was reported to be resting comfortably Tuesday. Dan Bryson, if Beta, was among the business visitors here Tuesday George Carpenter, Jr., who has been teaching sshool in Burke county, returned to his home on Iotla street Sunday. Mrs. Gilmer Jones returned to her home here Tuesday after spend ing a few days in Raleigh on busi ness. Mrs. Grace Omahundro and Mrs. J. E. Perry returned to their homes here Friday after spending a week in Richmond, Va., visiting Mr Omahundro's parents. J. C. Buchanan, of Gay, under went an amputation of his leg at the Angel Hospital the past week His condition is satisfactory. Mrs. Paul Killian, wife of Dr. Paul Killian, of Hayesvile,, under went a very serious operation at Angel Hospital Sunday. Her con dition was reported to be satisfac tory. Austin Sutton, who carries the mail from Franklin to Dillsboro, underwent an operation at Angel Hospital Saturday. His condition is satisfactory. Ernest Nix, of Dillard, Ga., is a patient in Angel Hospital, suffering with diabetes. Mrs Margie Elliott, of Franklin, is a patient in Angel Hospital. Her condition is satisfactory. Mrs. John Ramsey, who has been spending tht past week visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wade Moody, -at her home on Iotla, left Monday for a visit with her son in Sylva, before returning to her home in Kingsport, Va. June Parrish, daughter of Mrs. Fred Parrish, is ill at her home on Bidwell street with pneumonia Funeral Held For John Haskett John Haskett, 60, farmer, died at his home in the Mountain Grove section Thursday afternoon about 5 o'clock, after an illness of three months. Funeral services were held at the Mountain Grove Baptist church Sat urday morning at 10 o'clock. Mr. Haskett is survived by widow and several children.
