Mr. Reed came with him this trip. This was his last time, he has been pastor of Well's Grove church for the past two years. Well's Grove Baptist church has elected for their pastor for the coming year Rev.. Mr. Burrel. Mrs. J. D. Keener and daugh ter, Blanche, were in Franklin Monday shopping. Charlie Jennings, Fred Sorrels and Ellison Dendy have been elect ed delegates to attend the associa tion this year at Franklin from Well's Grove. Dave Angel spent Saturday and Sunday with his family,, returning to Gainesville Sunday. Mrs. Wendell Phillips spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Floyd Strain. Beatrice Snyder, from Cornelia, Ga., is here spending some time with her cousin, Grace Snyder. Jlyl2 Itc-BofF-A2 Good Income Secured - From Sale of Pulp Wood An annual income of $1,500,000 comes to North Carolina timber owners; wood cutters, wood haulers, and marketing agents from the marketing of pulp wood. During the past five years, art average of 255,772 cords of pulp wood were harvested yearly at a value ranging from $4 to $8 a cord f. o. b. cars at the shipping point. The average price was $6 a cord. During the five-year period, of which a survey was made by R. W. Graeber, extension forester at State College, the pulp was con sumed by eight mills, three within the state and five in neighboring states. The three mills within the state consumed 235,366 cords of wood a year, while 18,406 cords ewere ship ped elsewhere. The greater por tion of the wood was pine, poplar, Mountain Dance Festival To Be Held August 2 and 3 ASHEVILLE, July ll.-Through-out the length and breadth of the mountain section of North Caro lina, dance teams and string mu sicians are practicing the steps and the music of the famous mountain I dances in preparation for the an-j nual Mountain Folk Festival to be held in Asheville August 2 and 3. C. hemlock and chestnut. The bal ance was divided among many species, including spruce, gum, soft maple, basswood, cucumber and buckeye. The profit from the sale of wood to' the mills is divided among four classes of people. The timber owners and the hauling contractors each receive about 25 per cent of the proceeds. The wood cutters get an average of 42 per cent, and marketing agencies about 8 per cent. In addition, the railroads get ap proximately $1.50 a cord in freight charges, or almost $400,000 for de livering the pulp to the mills. Mr. Graeber pointed out that well-stocked stands of timber are good investments and will produce an average annual growth of one cord per acre. Pulpwobd, he con tinued, forms the basis of a great industry which gives employment to thousands of people. found in the highlands will take part in the event. Fame of the annual dance fete, led to the dancers of this section receiving an invitation to take part in the first national folk festival at St. Louis, Mo., this year. Three champion teams of dancers and two bands of string musicians made the trip to the Missouri city to take part in the national event. The mountain folk festival at Asheville will be staged in two parts on the two nights set for the event. The dancing and string band performances will take place at McCormick Field in Asheville, under the glare of the night base ball lights. From the dancing groups entered in the festival con tests will be selected the cham pions who will reign supreme as the most skillful in their peculiar art.
