WEDS W. A. ROUSSEAU
Miss Timoxeua Crawford, daugh
ter of Mrs. Lee Crawlord, of
Franklin, and Mr. W. A. Rousseau,
of North Wilkesboro, N. C, were
quietly married at 5 o'clock Wed
nesday afternoon in the Franklin
Methodist church in the presence of
a few relatives and friends.
The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. C. C. Herbert, Jr.,. pastor
of the church. "0 Promise Me"
was sung by Mrs. Harold Sloan.
The bride was given in marriage
by her brother, Mr. Gilmer L.
Crawford. J. A. Rousseau, brother
of the bride groom, was his best
man.
The bride wore a lovely autumn
suit in black and green, with black
accessories, and a shoulder corsage
of sweetheart roses and blue del
phinium. Mrs. Rousseau is a graduate of
the Franklin high school and of the
North Carolina College for Women,
Greensboro. She specialized in mu
sic at college and for the past four
years has taught music in the pub
lic schools of North Wilkesboro.
Mr. Rousseau formerly lived in
North Wilkesboro, but he is now
stationed in Greensboro, where he
holds a position with the North
Carolina office of the Home Own
ers' Loan Corporation.
Immediately after the ceremony
Wednesday afternoon the bride
and groom left for a wedding trip.
They will be at home at Greens
boro after August 25.
Out-of-town visitors here for the
wedding were Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Rousseau, parents of the groom,
and Miss Nell Rousseau, his sis
ter, all of North Wilkesboro, and
Dr. J. P. Rousseau, of Winston

Mrs. T. W. Porter entertained
with a dinner party at her home
Saturday evening honoring her
daughter, Miss Jean Porter, who
was here from Winston-Salem for
the week-end.
Those guests included : Mr. and
Mrs. C S. Brown, Jr.; Miss Dor
othy Lyle, of Atlanta, Ga. ; Miss
Margaret Cozad, Walter Herbert,
of Sumter, S. C; Thomas and
James Porter.

Mrs. George R. Johnston left
Tuesday for Athens, Ga., where
she will spend a week with her
mother, Mrs. Alice Murray.
Mrs. Georgia Hall and daughter,
Miss Mae Hall, have returned to
their home in Augusta, Ga.. after
spending a week here visiting Mrs.
Hall's daughter, Mrs. C. S. Brown,
and Mr. Brown at the Scott Grif
fin hotel.
Mrs. Ida Hendrick, of Chipley,
Ga., arrived Sunday for a visit with
her sister, Mrs. John Awtrey, at
Rogers Hall.
Mrs. and Mrs. Lionel Ingram,
who have recently moved here
from Greenville, S. C, have taken
an apartment with Mrs. R. G.
Beshears. Mr. Ingram is con-
nected with the Nantahala National
Forest.
Miss Dixie Nell Hudson, of New
York, is spending her vacation here
with her father, R. M. Hudson,
and Mrs. Hudson.
Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown, Jr.,
motored to Anderson, S. C, Sun
day afternoon.
Fleet Scroggs, of Statesville, ar
rived here Monday night to spend
a week with his wife at the home
of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank
T. Smith, on Harrison avenue.
John Smith, who has been in
India for the past four years, ar
rived here Tuesday for a visit with
friends. Mr. Smith made his home
here for several years, having been
connected with the state highway
commission.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones re
turned to their home in Akron,
Ohio, Sunday, af(er spending two
weeks here visiting their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Martin F. Jones, at
their home on Bonny Crest, and
Mrs. J. B. Stalcup at her home on
Iotia street.
Mrs. Carl Slagle left Sunday for
Penland for a two-weeks visit with
relatives and friends.
Mrs. Harry Higgins and son,
Harry, Jr., left Monday morning
for Spruce Pine, for a week's visit
with Mrs. Higgins' sister, Mrs. J.
j D. Porter, and Mr. Porter.
Mrs. Judith Jacobs returned to
her home in Verden, Okla., Sunday,
after spending several weeks here
visiting her sister, Miss Nettie
Hurst.
The Rev. J. A. Flanagan is con
ducting services at White Oak
church in Haywood county this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Lebron Alexander,
of Chattanooga, Tenn., spent part
of this week here, the guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Dady, at
their home on White Oak street.
Miss Marjorie McCullough, of
Macon, Ga., is the guest of her
sister, Mrs. George R. Pattillo.
Miss Jean Porter, who is doing
stenographic work in Winston
Salem, spent the week-end here
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.
W. Porter.
Charles O. Ramsey, of Alabama,
is spending several days here visit
ing relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hurst, of
Ridgecrest, spent the week-end with
Mr. Hurst's sister, Miss Nettie
Hurst, at "Woodhurst Farm."
Miss Ruth McCollum, of Atlanta,
Ga., is spending several days here
visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
E. B. McCollum, at their home on
Palmer street.
Mrs. Truman Calloway, of Sylva,
was here Sunday visiting her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Calloway.
Miss Dorothy Lyle arrived here
last week from Atlanta, Ga., to
spend several weeks with her grand
mother, Mrs. S. H. Lyle, Sr., at
her home on Harrison avenue.
Miss Louise Blaine, daughter of
Mrs. Dave Blaine, who has been
confined to her bed for the past
week with pleurisy, was reported to
be slightly improved Tuesday.

A revival meeting began at the
Cowee Baptist church Sunday even
ing. The local pastor, Rev. Rufus
Mayberry, assisted by Rev. Rogers,
is conducting the services.
A party of about 21 men spent
Frilay and Saturday touring the
Smoky Mountains, returning to
their homes Saturday evening.
The Cherokee Indians met the
Cowee nine on the Cowee diamond
in an interesting ball game Satur
day. The score was 17 to 10 in
favor of Cowee.
Miss Edna Bryson entertained
Saturday evening with a party hon
oring her niece, Miss Alma Bryson,
of Darringtori, Wash. A large
crowd was present and all reported
an enjoyable time. Dainty refresh
ments were served.
Mr. Bowden, of Dallas, Texas,
was here the past week visiting
his daughter, Miss Katherine Bow
den, at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
J. M. Morgan.
