GIVEN SHOWER Mr. and Mrs. Lester Henderson , who were recently married, wer given a surprise miscellaneous show er Monday night by the clerks 01 the S. & L. Five and Ten Cen Store, of which Mr. Henderson is manager. Besides the clerks o the store, a number of friends o the couple were also present. A huge box of lovely gifts was pre sented the couple by Dr. F. T Smith after they had been shower ed with rice. MISS KATHERINE JONES TO WED OHIO MAN Mr. and Mrs. George Lyle Jones of Asheville, formerly of Franklin announced Tuesday in Ashevill the engagement of their elder daughter, Miss Katherine Deverux Jones, to Mr. - Franz Theodore Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Juliu F. Stone, of Columbus, Ohio. The announcement was made a a dinner given at Grove Park Ini by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Genneti also formerly of Franklin, in com pliment to the betrothed yonn couple. Miss Jones is a popular membei of Asheville's younger social -se and she has many friends it Franklin. She was queen of th Rhododendron festival in Ashevill in 1932. MISS ADELINE TEAGUE WEDS MR. L. HENDERSSON Announcement has been made o the marriage of Miss Adelin Teague and Mr. Lester Hendersot on Sunday, October 21, in Green ville, S. C. The ceremony wa simple and only a few close friend of the bride and bride groom were present. The bride wore a handsome brown and green crepe ensemble with matching brown accessories. Mrs. Henderson is the daughter of Mrs. Charles W. Teague and the late Mr. Teague, of Prentiss. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and Weaver college, Weav erville. ' She has been teaching this year in the Clark's Chapel school Mr. Henderson is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Henderson of the Cullasaja community. He is a graduate of the Franklin high school and is manager of the S & L. Five and Ten Cent Store. ENLOE-SNYDER MARRIAGE IS ANNOUNCED . Coming as a great surprise to their many friends was the an nouncement this week of the mar riage of Miss Helen Enloe and Rutherford H. Snyder in Jefferson, Ga., last Easter Sunday. Mrs. Snyder is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Enloe, of the Cartoogechaye community. After being graduated from the Franklin high school she attended Stonewall Jackson college at Abbington, Va., for a year and then took a four year course at Maryville college, Maryville, Tenn., receiving her bachelor of arts degree in 1933. For the past year and a half she has been teaching in the Slagle school in the Cartoogechaye section. Mr. Snyder is the. son of Mrs. (I the late Mr. Snvder. MISS KATHERINE HUNNICUTT WEDS IN NEW MEXICO Miss Katherine Agnes Hunnicutt daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emorj Spear Hunnicutt, of Franklin, am Mr. Marion Perce, son of Mr. am Mrs. George Perce, of Albuquerque New Mexico, were married at o'clock Saturday afternoon, Decern ber 22, in Santa Maria, New Mex ico. The wedding was a quiet affaii with only relatives and a few inti mate friends present. It took plac at the church of Santa Maria d Acoma, picturesque replica of th famous Acoma mission at Acoma New Mexico. The ceremony wa performed by the Rev. Angellus Lammert, of Cincinnati, a frien of the bride and bride groom. The bride attended the Franklin high school and later the North Carolina College for Women at Greensboro and the University of Illinois. She has been in New Mexico for several winters, having been sent there from Washington, D. C, by the federal government. Mr. Perce is a graduate of the School of Engineering of the Uni versity of New Mexico, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. At present he is in the federal government ser vice. For the wedding the bride wore a blue dress with beige accessories. Her traveling ensemble was of black. Following the ceremony the Missi es Stanley and Merritt, friends of the bride, were hostesses for the wedding party at an informal buf fet supper. The bride and groom left for a short wedding trip from the home of Dr. and Mrs. John Wilson Elder of Albuquerque. ELLERS GIVEN POUNDING Members of the Woman's Mis sionary Society, and other members of the Franklin Baptist church gave the pastor, the Rev. E. R. Eller, am Mrs. Eller a surprise pounding Tuesday night. After meeting at the church and all going in a body to the parsonage singing Christmas carols the party presented many useful gifts. Miss Virginia E. Smith, who is teaching school at Roanoke Rapids, is spending her Christmas holidays here with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank T. Smith, at their home on Harrison avenue Mr. and v Mrs. George Reid and son. Georee. Tr.. left Wednesday mornintr for their home in Detroit, Mich., after spending two weeks here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Georee Reid. Sr.. at their W home on Route 4, and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Anderson, at their home on Harrison avenue. Mrs. A. E. Gouge, of Bakersville, has been spending several days here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Sitk, at their home on Iotla street Mr. and Mrs. Tim Greenwood, o Dillard, Ga., arrived Friday for a visit with Mr. Greenwood's daugh ter, Mrs. Frstal: Higdon, and Mr. Higdon at their home on Bidwell street. Nelson Sutton, of Sylva, who is deputy United States marshal, of this district, is among the patients in Angel Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Tillery T. Love spent a part of this week with Mr. Love's parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Marion Love, in Clarkesville, Ga. I Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Billings left Thursday for Daytona Beach, Fla., where Mrs. Billings will spend the remaining winter months, while Mr. Billings will return to his home here in about three .weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kimsey, of Hickory, have been spending sever al days here with Mrs. Kimsey's father, W. G. Hall, at his home on Bonny Crest. Misses Sarah, Gussie and Flor ence Poliakoff, and Miss Rosie Poliakoff, of Anderson, S. C, and Dr. Nathan Poliakoff, of Charles ton, W. Va., are spending this week here with their sister, Mrs. Saf Poliakoff, and Mr. Poliakoff, at their home on Harrison avenue. Capt Charles Mcllwaine, of Knoxville, Tenn., spent part of the past week here with friends. Capt. Mcllwaine formerly was command ing officer at Camp N. C F-9 near Franklin. 'Top" Dalton and Cary Rickman returned to their home in Gastonia Wednesday after spending Christ mas with Mr. Rickman 's mother, Mrs. M. L. Rickman, and Mr. Dal ton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Dalton, at their homes at West's Mill. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Kesler and young son, of East Spencer, are spending this week here with Mrs. Kesler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Angel, Sr. Miss Jean Porter, who has been employed in the city health depart ment of Winston-Salem, spent Christmas here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Porter. Miss Porter left after the holidays for Washington, where she has a po sition with the United States de partment of health. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mielke and young son, of Pittsburgh, Pa., who came to Franklin last week for the funeral of Mrs. Mielke's father, Martin F. Jones, have returned to Pittsburgh. Bernard Poliakoff, of Anderson, S. C, is spending this week here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Poliakoff, at their home on Har rison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Palmer, of Demorest, Ga., and Otis Palmer, of Atlanta, Ga., spent Wednesday of this week here with Mr. and Mrs. Palmer's daughter, Mrs. J. H. Brookshire, and Mr. Brookshire at their home on Cartoogechaye. Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Sloan spent the first of this week in States-- ville visiting Mrs. Sloan's parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Drennon, Jr., of Porterdale, Ga:, spent the week-end here visiting Mrs. Dren non's father, R. C. Dady, and Mrs. Dady at their home on White Oak street Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Sloan, who have been making their home in Atlanta for the past six months, ar rived here Tuesday night to spend part of the holidays with relatives They are staying at the home of Mrs. W. W. Sloan and with them are Neville Sloan, home from the University of North Carolina for the holidays, and Cadet George Sloan, on Christmas leave from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N. Y. Morris Franks, young son of Mr. asd Mrs. J. D. Franks, is con fined to his home in west Franklin with pneumonia. Mrs. John J. Arthur Mash burn, who is teach ing school at Valdese, is spending several days visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Mashburn, at their home on Cartoogechaye. Mrt and Mrs. J. P. Noland and children left last week for Birming ham, Ala., for a visit with relatives and friends. Hilton Calloway, who is working in a drug store at Bryson City, spent Christmas day with his moth er, Mrs. Frank Calloway, at her home on Bonny Crest. Miss Helen Dalton left Monday for a week's visit with relatives and friends in Canton and Ashe ville. Mrs. Grace Omahundro lefj Fri day for a visit with relatives in Richmond, Va. William B. McGuire, Jr., who is practicing law in Charlotte, spent fhe Christmas holidays here whh his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McGuire. Mrs. C. D. Baird and son, C. D., and daughter, Miss Grace Baird, and Paul Welch, left Tuesday for El Reno, Okla., for a visit with Mrs. Baird's daughter, Mrs. C. H. Perry, and Mr. Perry. Miss Baird will remain in Oklahoma to attend school, while the rest of the p.art'y will return to Franklin the first of the year. Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Sutton, of Clinton, Tenn., spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Candler Sutton at their home on Franklin Route 2, and Mr. and Mrs. Lex Penland at their home on Bonny Crest. George Ashear and Weaver Holt arrived here on Wednesday of last week from Los Angeles, Calif., for a visit with Mr. Ashear's brothers, Joseph and Mitchell Ashear, anr Mr. Holt's relatives in Franklin and Highlands. Miss Mae Hall, of Augusta, Ga., spent Christmas day here with her sister, Mrs. C. S. Brown, Sr., at the Scott Griffin hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Greenwood spent the first of the week in Atlanta, Ga., visiting relatives and' friends. Charlie West spent the week-end I with his sister, Mrs. John Mum power, in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown and Tony Welch spent Sunday, and Monday with relatives and friends in Augusta, Ga. The Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Herbert, Jr., left Monday for Sumter, S. "Welch, who is attending the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo, arrived here for a week's visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Welch. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Brown and little daughter, Betty Jean, have been spending the past week in Asheville with Mr. Brown's moth er, Mrs. Roy Brown. Ted Bryant left Sunday for Co lumbus, Ga., to spend Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Bryant. Russell Cabe, who is with the forest service in Athens, Tenn., is spending this week with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Cabe, at their home on Franklin Route 2. Mrs. Nina McCoy and little daughter, Adreau Ruth, left Friday of the past week for a visit with Mrs. McCoy's grandmother, Mrs. J. T. Tippett, near Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones and Mrs. Newton Cunningham and chil dren, of Akron, Ohio, who came home last week to attend the fun eral of their father and grand father, Martin F. Jones, returned to their homes Wednesday morn ing. Miss Majorie McBride, of New Orleans, La., is spending several days here, the guest of Miss Grace Conley at her home on Harrison avenue.
