Alexander, of Char lotte, N. C, on Sunday, June 2, by the Rev. T. C. Burrell, of Clarkesville, Ga. The bride was educated at Frank lin high school and attended At lanta Conservatory of Music, At lanta, Ga., and Athens Business college, Athens, Ga. Mr. Alexan der is the son of Mrs. W. A. Alex ander, and the late W. A. Alexan der, of Charlotte, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander will make their home in Charlotte. CABE-GUFFEY Coming as a surprise to their many friends throughout North Carolina and Georgia, is the an nouncement of the marriage on Thursday, August 1, of Miss Eliza beth Cabe, of Otto, and Lee Guf fey, of Young Harris, Ga. The ceremony was performed at the parsonage of the Macon charge, in the presence of a few intimate friends with the Rev. J. B. Tabor, pastor of the bride, officiating. Mrs. Guffey is the attractive daughter of D. P. Cabe and the late Mrs. Cabe, of Otto. She is a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers college and has studied at Salem College. She has taught in the Eastern and Piedmont, as well as the Western section of North Carolina. For the past four years she has been a member of the faculty of the Franklin school. Mr. Guffey served in the United States Navy as a Chief Machinist's mate. He has been transferred from active duty to the Fleet Na val Reserve, after sixteen years of service. The Social Service Workers of the Franklin Methodist church gave a benefit bridge Tuesday night in the Rotary hall. The proceeds were given to the Children'9 Home. Nine tables were filled. Mrs. Hal lie Russell won a cake for high score, and several other prizes were won in drawings. Punch and cakes were served. U. D. C. Meacham, of Hendersonville, spent the week end here visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. I. L. Eastern and two chil dren spent the week-end in Ala bama with Mrs. Easton'a husband, who is working there. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hurst, and daughter, Annie, of Detroit, arriv ed Saturday to spend a week with friends and relatives in Macon county. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wright, of Terre Haute, Ind., were the guests of Mrs. J. C. Barrington last week. Mrs. A. F. Blackwell, of Winston-Salem, was the week-end guest of Mrs. J. C. Barrington at her home on the Georgia road. M. G. Duncan, of Rosman, visit ed his sister, Mrs. S. P. Simpson and chil dren, of Norris Dam, Tenn., have been visiting relatives and friends near Franklin. Mrs. J. A. Cook, of Athens, Ga., is spending several days' here visit ing relatives and friends. William McGuire, of Charlotte, spent the week-end with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McGuire. Miss Laura Stillwell, of Kinston, N. G, is spending several days visiting her sister, Mrs. John F. Cumnngham, at her home on Route 1. Mrs. Carlton Shirley, of Lavonia. Ga., came up Thursday to attend the Siler reunion and remained over the week-end for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Moore. She was accompanied on her return Sunday by Mrs. Moore and daugh ter, Sallie Lou, who will spend this week in Lavonia. Mrs. Shir ley formerly was Miss Nettie Campbell, of Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Poliakoff spent the first of the week visiting relatives in Anderson, S. C. C. Tom Bryson and George B. Patton spent a few days last week in Greensboro and Raleigh on busi ness. E. L. Springer, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., spent the first of the week here visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Blumenthal. Duncan has returned to her home in Asheville after spending several days as the guest of Mrs. T. J. Johnston, Sr., at her home on Harrison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Noland and three children left Saturday for Montgomery, Ala., for a week's visit before going to their new home in Birmingham, Ala., where.
