O'NEIL Macon County Home Demonstration Agent CLUB FORMED AT WEST'S MILL A home demonstration club was organized at West's Mill with the highest attendance as yet attained by any club. Twenty-five women became members of the club. Mrs. Carl Bryson was elected president. Other officers will be announced next week. GET CLUB HOUSE , The 4-H Club at Holly Springs has secured a house on the place of Mr. E. V. Amnions to be used as a club house. They are to be congratulated for their initiative in securing a house for the use of the club. It takes public spirited citizens to further the interests of their boys and girls. IOTLA CLUB TO MEET NOVEMBER 1 The second meeting of the Iotla Home Demonstration club will be held Friday, November 1, at the home of Mrs. Wade Moody. Mem bers of the community are urged to attend. The subject to be dis cussed will be "Foods for Chil dren," with emphasis on the school lunch. ACHIEVEMENT DAY AT SYLVA A representative from each home demonstration club attended the achievement day at Sylva in which the accomplishments of the Jack- sop county clubs were presented. Mrs. McKimmon, state director of home demonstration work, gave the principal address. Miss Ruth Cur rent, district agent, was present. A report of this meeting will be given at the next meeting of the Macon county clubs. Timely Recipes PUMPKIN COOKIES ' 1J4 cups brown sugar Y2 cup shortening 2 eggs well beaten 1J4 cups pumpkin (cooked) 1 teaspoon vanilla Y2 teaspoon salt Ys, teaspoon ginger Y2 teaspoon nutmeg Yi teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon lemon extract 2Y2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup raisins 1 cup chopped nut meats ' Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs, pumpkin and seasonings. Sift flour and baking powder, combine with sugar mixture. Add fruit and nuts and blend thoroughly. Drop from teaspoon on a well greased baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes in a moderate oven. Three dozen good sized cookies. noon. G. E. Raburn and his son, S. R. Raburn, left Kyle Wednesday morning for Asheville, where they are going to spend a few days. Roy Jefferson and wife, of Ten nessee, Carl Bateman, Pat Soles bee, and William Tillie left recent ly for Florida, where they expect to spend the winter. Oscar Bateman left for Gastonia Wednesday. He expects to spend a week. Elmer Baldwin, S. R. Raburn, Wayne Jones, Wayne Wood and Grady Ray, of Kyle, left for C. C. C. camp Sunday. The C. C. C. camp at Topton has been consolidated with the Aquone camp. Eighty-two boys came from the Topton camp. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Gregg, of Swannanoa, visited Mrs. Gregg's parents, Mr.' and Mrs. G. R. Rae burn, of Kyle, recently. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Dillingham, of Swannanoa, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Yonce, of Kyle, last week-end. Miss Imogene Hall, who is at tending school at Andrews, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Hall, her parents. Blossomtown Mrs. Lester Henderson was visit ing Mrs! Sanford Mann recently. Eston Street and lord Mann went to Wayah Bald Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dock Stockton and son, Furman, were visiting relatives in South Carolina recently. Mr. and Mrs, Cordell Rogers and children were visiting Mr. Rogers' brother, Milburn Rogers, Sunday. Harve Edwards, who has been in Angel Hospital with blood pois oning, has returned to his home. Mrs. L. W. Hollingsworth and two daughters, of Monroe, N. C, were calling on Miss Willie Rog ers and Bertha Street recently. Nolan McCoy has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Arwood Lee. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Holbrooks and family spent the past week end in Gastonia visiting friends and relatiives. Dale Rogers entertained a large number of young people with a candy drawing at his home on Friday evening. Every one report ed a nice time. Mrs. Lester Southards spent the week-end with her father, Mr. Car penter, on Cartoogechaye. Prentiss The Rev. Tim Vinson filled his ' aooointment Saturday night and Sunday. Preached two real good sermons. The Sunday school gave a very interesting program on state missions just atter bunaay school Sunday morning. John P. Rickman has accepted a position in Canton, and moved his family there. Luther Conner and family, from Tellico, have moved into Mr. Rickman's house. Mrs. Gertrude Long and family, accompanied by her sister, Miss Faye Brown, from Franklin, were visiting Mrs. Long's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brown, at Prentiss Sun day afternoon. The farmers in this section are glad to see rain, qo the ground can be more easily ploughed and that the grain already sowed may come up. Dr. W. A. Rogers was at the Union School last week vaccinating for typhoid. E. B. DeHart, of Franklin, and J. L. Sanders have been cutting and shipping logs to the band mill Lat Franklin. PUMPKIN BISCUIT 2 cups flour Y2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 5 tablespoons shortening Y2 cup canned pumpkin 5 tablespoons milk Mix and sift flour, salt sugar and baking powder. Cut in the short ening. Add the pumpkin and mix well. Add milk. Roll out on a well floured board. Cut with bis cuit cutter and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake in a hot oven fifteen or twenty minutes. PUMPKIN PIE 12 cups cooked pumpkin 2 eggs 1 cup milk Y teaspoon ginger Yi teaspoon nutmeg 23 cup light brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon Y2 teaspoon salt If pumpkin is watery, cook slow ly until most of the water has evaporated. Add beaten eggs and hnilk. Combine sugar, spices and salt and add to pumpkin mixture. Pour into pie pan lined with pas try. Bake in a hot oven for 5 minutes to set crust, then cook in slow oven until firm. Do not al low to reach boiling temperature. Using cream instead of milk im proves the pie. PERSIMMON PUDDING 2 qts. persimmons water to strain 2 qts. milk 2 medium sweet potatoes grated 5 cups flour 4 cups bread crumbs 2Y2 cups sugar 3 eggs 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger 2 teaspoons lemon 4 tablespoons melted butter Strain persimmons, mix all dry ingredients and add liquids. Bake in a very slow oven . for two or three hours. Serve with whipped cream. Kyle (Reported by 7th Grade Pupil of Kyle School) Mr. and Mrs. Lee Baldwin, of Kyle, visited Mrs. Harlie Baldwin, of Franklin, last Thursday. Carl Denny, of Otter Creek, was taken to Angel Hospital Oct. 23 for an operation for appendicitis. He is reported to be improving. Miss Lallie Bateman, who has been at Burningtown, is spending a few days with her parents at Kyle. Everyone is especially invited to a singing at Kyle church every Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
