The fact that her novel “Katrina” had won first prize and $2,100 in cash did not slow up Miss Sally Salminen (jbove), in her job as kitchen maid in a Park Avenue home here. Many Inspect WPA Exhibits (Ctintinued from Page 1) in seven schools—Buck Creek, Un ion, Cowee, Oak Grove, Kyle, lotla and Highlands—with cooks, stoves and utensils supplied by the WPA. School patrons send to the schools green vegetables, cornmeal, flour, potatoes and fruit. From these con tributions the cook prepares bounti ful and wholesome meals which are served to the school children with out charge. The average cost per plate was estimated by Miss Hurst at five cents. The NYA projects, under the supervision of Mrs. J. A. Drdway, were represented by scrapbooks, puzzles and posters made by youngsters from four to six years of age. In the afternoon a rhythm band developed by Dr. T. J. O’Neil, rec reation supervisor, gave a program of music. Exhibits illustrated the hobbies pursued by youngsters tak ing part in recreational activities.
