Special Session April 2
Western Carolina Teachers jcol
lege at Lullowhee will begin! its
annual special six weeks' seslion
April 27, which lasts until Junfe 5.
1 his session is designed to pro
vide especially for the teachersf of
western North Carolina who are
unable to take both of the regular
sessions of the summer school on
account , of the early opening of
the schools in this part of the
state. Most of the teachers here are
.not able to take work in the lat
ter summer session because of this
fact. ' , i i
The" courses offered are in the
fields of art, music, history, econo
mics, education, English, geography
and religious education.
Due to the lack of rooms in the
college dormitories, accomodations
are being provided for the students
in the community homes. Also, two
tourist homes have been obtained
for use in accomodating student.
In some . instances, the college bus
will be used in transporting stu
dents to and from these places
where the distance is too great for
. walking.
This special session is an annual
one and has been popular for a
number of years. According to Dean
W. E, Bird "the most varied and
the richest offering in the way of
courses ever offered during such a
session will be made this year."
Hog Outlook Good
For Carolina Farmer
Better prices for hogs this sum
mer are forecast by H. W. Taylor,
extension swine specialist at State
college.
Although large stocks of pork
and lard are now in cold storage,
he said the number of hogs be
ing slaughtered is v diminishing,
whil? . the demand is holding up
well.
Most of the nation's market hogs
are produced in the western corn
belt and in the north central
states.

WASHINGTON ; . . Justice Wil
lis Van Devantcr is the " oldest
member of the Supreme Court in
point of service. He was -appointed
hv President Taft and has served
r 20 years as a member of the high
est court.
ern corn belt is approximately 40
per cent less than it was two years
ano. and the number of hoes there
on January 1 was estimated at 14,-
525,000 head, the lowest in years.
The 26.473.000 head of hogs in
the north central States is about
the , same number produced mi 1935,
according to a report from the fed
eral bureau of agricultural econom
ics. Anv increase in hoe production
in these regions will depend upon
a return of corn production to
something like a normal level, and
that cannot affect hog prices this
spring and early summer, Taylor
pointed out.
The outlook, then, Is that there
will be a good market for North
he continued. Prices
are expected to hold up well
through the spring, and rise in the
summer.
However, the question of whether
an individual farmer should hold
his hogs for summer marketing will
depend upon the condition of his
hogs and the amount and type of
feed he has on hand.
