High lands, facing, its most prosperous summer tourist season in history according to a consensus of opin ion, will boast its first exclusive dress shop when the . Betty-Dee Shop, owned and operated by Mrs L. G. Appley, of Highlands and Airs. Dinty Dennis, of Miami, opens on Saturday, April 24. . During ,the last week, the owners have renovated and decorated their shop space in the Marrett building, on Main street, opposite the post- office, as well as issued an invita tion to Highlands and Macon coun ty residents and visitors to inspect their stock on Saturday's opening day. Offering an exclusive line of cot ton, silk and linen dresses obtained from the leading fashion centers of New York and Miami, the own ers announce' they will present these latest designs and models in their store at moderate popular prices. Mrs. Appley has been a resident of-Highlands for the last five years and, with her husband, L. G. Ap pley, formerly of Coral Gables, has maintained a year round residence. With their home on the land known as the Hill property, Mrs. Appley, with her husband, are highly re garded in the Highlands area. Mrs. Dennis with her husband, Dinty Dennis, sports editor of The Miami Herald, visited in this area four years ago at High Hampton Inn. Since then they have been regular summer visitors, living at the Appley cottages during the last two years. TOURIS1 SEASON STARTING EARLY THIS YEAR The tourist season is starting off early this , year, with numbers of people already arriving at hotels and summer residences. J. Harvey Trice has opened Highlands Inn for the season and as usual he ex pects a good crowd. Other hotels are not open yet, with the excep tion bf'Hotel Edwards, and the Potts House, which remain open the year round. CHILDREN ASKED TO LEAVE BOOKS AT SCHOOL O. F. Summer, principal of High lands school, has announced that the recent legislature made provis ions for furnishing free basal ele mentary books to the school chil dren beginning next fall. It has been suggested that the children leave their books at school at the close of school, as this will help in getting the program of furnishing free books started. All school principals in the state have been sent a notice from the text book commission in . R. ; Lawrence, of Seneca, S. C, who spent a few days at her cot tage here. Visiting Miss Stella Smith, who recently returned to her home here from Washington, D. C, is her cousin, Miss Mildred Snead, of Walhalla, S. C. Harley Smith, Jr., of Gainesville, Ga., was visiting the Smiths during last week-end. Miss Cora Miltimore, of Gaines ville, Fla., was at Hotel Edwards several days last week. Last fall Miss Miltimore purchased a home site on the Walhalla road. Jen nings, Jacksonville, Fla., and sev eral others. A delightful party was given by Mrs. Tudor Hall in honor of her daughter, Isobel, on April 16, her sixth birthday. Several youngsters were present to enjoy . the games and the candle-lighted cake. Fav ors were presented each child. Miss Callie Talley was married 'to Mr. Robert Zachery, in Clayton, Ga., on April 10. The -bride was given a miscellaneous shower by Mrs. T. M. C. Hen Lays Two Eggs in One Day Ed Tallent relates an unusual story about a Rhode Island hen laying two eggs in one day. Mr. Tallent owns a flock of Rhode Island hens. Saturday, to Mr. Tallent's certain knowledge, this hen laid two eggs within five minutes and the eggs were normal size. The first had a hard shell, while the second had a soft shell.
