Two hew tennis nets have been purchased with center straps and pulleys to hold them at exactly the right height. If the weather continues warm, the swimming and wading pools will be opened in the near future. Next Sunday, a blind bogie golf tournament - will be held. Every player, whether good, bad or medi um, stands an equal chance to win. During the summer there will be driving contests, putting tourna ments, approaching , tournaments, Army and Navy tournaments, Scotch ball tournaments, Club championship (handicap), ladies' club championship (handicap), chil dren's and caddy tournaments, cos tume games, goofy golf; and a challenge will be issued to every club and town in this section to come and take the "goat" of the Franklin club back home with them, if they can. This year the ladies will come in for special attention. Major Car mack is offering the ladies of Franklin a wonderful opportunity to learn golf. Each Monday, Wed nesday and Friday during May, be ginning Monday, May 3, he will give free golf instructions from 9 until 11 in the mornings and from 4 until 6 in the afternoons to any girl or woman whose husband or father is a member of the golf club. He has also offered to furnish the clubs for practice work, if the ladies have no clubs or cannot borrow any. . Tennis matchesi will also be held during the summer, which will in clude a man's senior tournament, mixed double, tournament and jun ior tournaments both for boys and for girls. This year the swimming pool will also offer many attractions such as relay . races, fancy diving con tests, plunge for distance, endur ance tests and speed contests. Major Carmack is planning a very busy and pleasant summer for the men, women and children of Franklin and Macon county as well as for the summer visitors. 1937, at Clarkesville, Ga. S. forest service, Atlanta, Ga., arrived in Franklin Wednesday in connec tion with acquisition survey work on the Nantahala national forest Miss Lassie Kelly was chosen Captain for Macon county in the Women's Field Army which is be ing organized in North Carolina for the control of cancer. Harry Holt and family are spend ing several weeks in Highlands with Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Holt. Pupils of Miss McGuire Give Recital The pupils- of Miss Marearet McGuire gave their final recital for the year in the American Legion hall on Wednesday afternoon at 4 oclock. ...... The hall was crowded with par ents and friends of those taking part in the program, which proved to be most enjoyable. After the recital tea was served to those present. John Archer hit one of the long est drives ever made on the course on No. 8. Mrs. Eloise Franks is planning to take up, golf again this year. Mrs. Franks at One time shot in the nineties. . Mrs. Edith Harris, of the Health Departmet, is planning to join the golf classes starting on May 3. Pop Dunbar' ' says the tennis courts are going to be very fast this year and the faster the better for him. The caddies say Mr. , Carl Ty singer must have broken' a leg for he" hasn't been golfing much. Sam Mendenhall won the blind bogie Sunday, but he gives his wife, Hattie, part of the credit. Bill Sloan, of Clayton, had a little bad hick Sunday, but says there are other Sundays to come. Fred Sloan plays both right and left handed believe it or not, Mr Ripley I Mark Dowdle misplaced his clubs Sunday and didn't find them until after game time.
