SPONSOR PLANT SALE
The Garden club will sponsor a
plant sale Saturday, May 29, in
the building next to Roy Cunning
ham's grocery store. A variety of
plants, bulbs and various, other
flowers will be for sale.

GIVES BIRTHDAY PARTY
Mrs. W. T. Wright entertained
with a party on Monday, at her
home on West Main street, com
plimenting her son, Percy Dill, on
his fifth birthday anniversary.
Many games were enjoyed, after
which the children gathered in a
circle around the table bearing the
white birthday cake with the five
lighted pink candles, where Mrs.
Wright served delicious ice cream
and cake.

Montreat Wednesday, where he
had been for several days attend
ing the general assembly of the
Presbyterian church. -
Mrs. T. W. Angel, .Jr., and son
Tommy III, are spending several
days in Greensboro visiting Mrs.
Angel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.
P. Carmichael.
Miss Dair Barrett, of Clarksville,
Ga., is spending this week, the
guest of Miss Lucy Gray, at her
home on Franklin Route 2.
George McClure.and Fred Gray,
who have been in school , at Clem
son College, are at home for the
summer vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Davis and
family, of Demorest, Ga., spent the
past week-end with Mrs. Davis'
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Gray,
at their home on Franklin Route" 2.
Walter Brown and two children,
Allison and Clarence, of Pine
Bluff, Wyo., arrived here Wednes
day . to be with Mr. Brown's
moth,er-in-law, Mrs. C. A. Lowery,
who is critically ill with Bright's
disease.
Mrs. J. E. Lancaster and son,
Gartrell, returned to their home on
Riverview street, after a visit at
the home of' Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Lancaster, at Fletcher.
Mrs. Leila Gibson, of Waynes
ville, spent the week-end . visiting
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James
Dryman, at their home near the
Cozad roller mill.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Q,ueen, of
Etna, was among the visitors here
Wednesday.
Giis Leach has been confined to
his room for the past' 10 days suf
fering from influenza.
Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Skinner, of
Marion, S. C, have been guests at
Trimant Inn for the past 10 days.
Miss Reba Slagle and Miss Arry
Pressley, spent the week-end in
Sylva, the house guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Clyde Hilten. Mrs. Hilten
was before her marriage, Miss
Mary Alice Olliner, of Franklin.
Mr. and Mrs Faul Carpenter
spent Tuesday in Etowah, Tenn.,
with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs.
C. E. Cooper. On their return they
were accompanied by Mrs. Cooper
and her daughter, Miss Clare Sue
Cooper, who are moving into the
home of George T. Stiles, Mrs.
Cooper's father.-
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pressley
and two children, of Canton, spent
the week-end at West's Mill with
Mrs. Pressley's father, L. C. Bry
son. Fred Arnold and George Reece
made a business trip to Fayette
ville Monday, returning to their
homes here Tuesday."

is spending a few days here vis
iting her uncle, Dr. F. T. Smith
and Mrs. Smith at their home on
Bidwell street. ,
Harry McDdowell, of Petersburg,
Va., carne in last week for a visit
with friends in and around Frank
lin.
Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Fouts, of
Rural Hall, spent the week-end
with Mr. Fouts parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ham Fouts, at their home on
Iotla.
Perry Matlock, of Austell, Ga.,
is spending this week visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mat
lock, at their home at West's Mill.
D. Robert Davis, who has been
in Angel hospital, where he under
went a very serious operation, was
able to ibe removed to hjs home
Saturday.
Mrs. J. C. Barringlon returned
Sunday from Atlanta, Ga., where
she spent the latter part of the
week on business.
Rev. and Mrs. Allen Phillips, of
Tallulah Falls, Ga., arc spending
this week visiting Mr. and Mrs. J.
L. Young, at their home on Frank
lin Route 2.
Mr.' and Mrs. Eugene Patton,
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sorrclls and
Miss Edna Sorrclls, of Asheville,
were visiting their brother, J. C.

home at West's Mill recently.
Miss Juanita Meadows, of Bry
son City, spent Tuesday here visit
ing relatives and friends.
Mrs. D. T. Alexander and great
nephew, Teddy Folsom, Jr., are
spending .this week as guests at
Trimont Inn. Mrs. Alexander is the
mother of Sam Alexander, assistant
county farm agent.
Ernest Rankin and sister, Miss
Lily Rankin, have returned to their
home on Riverview street, after
making a trip to Staunton, and
Roanoke, Va., and through the
Shenandoah Valley. While in Vir
ginia they visited many historical
places of interest. ,
Rev. Eugene R. Eller, who had
been visiting his mother in North
Wilkesboro, stopped off here a
while Wednesday as he' was cn
route to his home in Pelham, Ga.
Norman West, a student at West
ern Carolina Teachers college, at
Cullowhee, spent the week-end with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. 1).
West, at their home at the Iotla
bridge. . He was accompanied by a
classmate, Spurgcon Warner, of
Greensboro.
