JUNE 24, 1137 THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACONIAN PAGE THREE SOCIAL ACTIVITIES and COMINGS AND GOINGS CLOER-SANDERS Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Annie Ray Cloer to l'aiil Sanders in Clayton, Ga., on Sunday, June 20, in a very simple but impressive ceremony, in the presence of a few close, rela tives of the bride. Mrs. Sanders is the daughter of Key. and Mrs. George Cloer, of Franklin Route 4. She was a stu dent in the Franklin high school. She was dressed in navy blue with grey accessories. Mr. Sanders is the son of Mrs. Mary Sanders, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Macon county. He is a graduate of the Iotla high school. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders left im mediately after the. ceremony for Richmond, Va. where they will make their future home. KENNEY-MORRISON 1 Miss Virginia Kennedy, of High Foint, and Don Morrison, of High Point, were married in a quiet but impressive ceremony Saturday after noon, June 12, at the home of Kv. 1). C. McCoy at Etna. ' Mr. Morrison is the son of the late J. A. and Mrs. Morrison, of Etna. He is a graduate of the Lenoir high school, where he has made his home for several years. He is now employed with the Standard Oil company at High Toint, .where they plan to make their home. McCOY-BLANKENSHIP A wedding of beauty and simplic ity was that of Miss Mary Pauline McCoy to Rev. Forest Blankenship, which was solemnized in the Oak Grove Baptist church on Saturday afternoon, June 12. Rev. T. D. Den ny, pastor of the bride, officiating. The church was beautifully deco rated with ferns and daisies. Mrs. Blankenship, who is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. D. C. McCoy, of Etna, was attired in a very becoming dress of navy blue georgette with white accessories. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and had made music her special study. Mr. Blankenship is a graduate of the Bryson City high school. Also a student at Mars Hill college. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Blankenship left for Asheville on a short wedding trip. The bride wore as her traveling gow.n a suit of grey with blue ac-i cessories. Mr. and Mrs. Blankenship will return to Bryson City, where they expect to make their home. H1LL-MEACHAM Solemnized with .beauty and dig nity, Saturday evening at 8:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Wil lett P. Sloan, on South Twenty Second street, was the marriage of Miss Sara-Helen Hill and, Richard Woodbridge Meacham. The apart ments of the home were effectively decorated with garlands of ivy and Spring flowers. The Rev. J. B. Meacham, father of the groom, performed the cere mony before an altar improvised of smilax foliage and baskets of regal lilies, with tall floor candela bra holding cathedral tapers on either side. Silver candelabra throughout the room held other white tapers. Airs. Robert K. Monroe, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor, and the maid of honor was Miss Elveree Arnold. The bridesmaids were Miss Charlotte Meacham, sister of the groom, and Miss Marie Griswold. Stewart Meacham, brother of the groom, was best man. Following the ceremony a re ception was held and punch was served on the lawn. Among the out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. -'J. J. Norris, Jack and Frank Norris, of Atlanta, and Mr. J. H. Hill, of Highlands, grandfather of the bride. , Mrs. Meacham, as Sara Helen Hill, was graduated from Ramsay high school and attended judson college in Marion, Ala. On her pa ternal side, she is descended from the Hills of North Carolina, her great-greatgrandfather, Stanhope W. Hill, having been the first mayor of Highlands, and her great grandfather having been Dr. Charles L. Frost, leading physician of Hempstead,. L. I., for -many years. On her maternal side she is de scended from the Mortons and the Littles of Tennessee, the latter hav ing produced a long line of Meth odist ministers. Mr. Meacham graduated from Phillips high school, and attended Birmingham-Southern college. He is descended from the Sharpes of Kentucky and the Meachams of Western North Carolim. He is now associated in business with the Moore-Handley Hardware company. After a wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Meacham will be at home on South . Fourteenth avenue. Birm ingham News. - Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wright had as their dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. R. Max Hurst, of Seneca, S. C, a sister of Mrs. Wright's; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Ligon, of Townsville, S. C, and Mrs. Jack Harris, of Iva, S. C. Sunday after noon, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Wright and children, they went to Wayah Glade and Wayah Bald. Mrs. Jack Sherrill and Miss Kath--erine Porter spent Tuesday in At lanta, Ga. . T. B. Higdon, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., spent the week-end at Higdon'ville with his mother, Mrs. Margaret Higdon. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tysingcr, Jr., and son, Bobby, returned to their liome here Sunday night, after a visit with Mr.- Tysingcr's mother, Mrs. Annie C. Tysingcr, in Lexing ton. ' ' ; j. J. W. Hastings, who has been quite ill for several days, was some what improved Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Holt and son, and Mrs. Dclma Brower and son, of Gastonia,t spent the past week-end with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cunningham, of Iotla. "Miss Reta Cunningham' accompanied them on their return to Gastonia, and will visit rela tives, in Charlotte and other points before returning home. Miss Juanita Meadows, of Bry son City, is here vvith her sister, Mrs. Perry Grant in Angel hospital and visiting friends. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Conley were visiting Miss Allie Caler, at Aquone, who is critically ill. Clyde Jacobs arrived here Friday from Olymphia, Wash., for a short visit with friends beforegoing on to Gastonia for a visit' with his parents, Mr., and Mrs. Jim Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs left Franklin in 1909 and this was his first visit back. He . was highly pleased ; to fine' Franklin growing so fast and show ing so much progress. The Blue Sky Boys, broadcast ing daily over station WGST, At lanta, Ga., will appear in person at the Franklin courthouse Saturday, June 26th at 8:30 F.'M., sponsored by the Holly Springs baseball team. Mr. and Mrs. R. Van Sisk and baby returned- to their home in Charlotte Monday after spending the week-end here with Mr. SiskV parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Sisk, at their home on Iotla street. Miss Mary Sue Smith, of Dalton, Ga., is spending several days here the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCollum at their home on Palmer street.
