Angel hospital, was reported Tues
day to be resting very comfort

Scroggs' parents, Dr. and Mrs. F.
T. Smith. They will also visit rela
tives in Haycsville this week.
Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Redden, of
Highlands, have spent the past
three weeks in Atlanta with their
daughter and little new grand
daughter. Helen 'McConnell. of New
York City, and Miss Emma Mc
Connell, .of Atlanta, Ga., were the
week-end guests of Mrs., C. II. Mc
Clure at her home on Franklin
Route 2.
Miss Doris Werner, daughter of
Mr.'.' and Mrs. Jack O. Werner, will
leave Sunday for Charleston, S. C,
where she will spend two weeks
visiting Miss Anne Santos.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Bryan, of
Atlanta, spent a few days in
Franklin on business. Mr. Bryant,
accompanied by George B. Patton,
spent Monday and Tuesday of this
week in Greenville, S. C.
J. S. Forter, of Hcndersonville,
spent Tuesday here on business.
Miss Re la Cunningham, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Cun
ningham, returned to her home on
lotla Monday, after spending sev
eral days- in Gretna, Va., with her
aunt, Mrs. Mary Ruckcr.
Mr. and Mrs. Nimrod Stiles and
sqn, of Haines City, Fla., are here
for a visit with Mr. Stiles' father,
George T. Stiles, who is quite ill
at his home on West Main street.
"Miss Margaret' Kennedy, of
Charleston, S. C, is spending two
weeks here, the house guest of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack O. Werner, at their
home on the Georgia road.
Charles Porter, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. S. Porter, of Henderson
ville, is spending a few days here
with Frederick Johnston Houk,
son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Houk.
W. D. Bruner has returned from
Edwardville, Va., where he spent
the past month on his vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Terry
and son, Joe, of El Reno, Okla.,
are spending a month here' with
Mrs. Perry's mother, Mrs. C. D.
Baird, at her home on Bonny Crest.
Mrs. George J. Johnston and son,
Murray, returned home Tuesday
from Athens, Ga., where they spent
several days visiting Mrs. John
ston's mother. Mrs. Alice Murray.
Mrs. E. L. Springer and two
children, Harriette and Walton, of
Atlanta, are spending several days
here visiting Mrs. Springer's sister,
Mrs. Moses Blumenthal.
Mrs. Rufus Joines, Mrs. James
Jennings and young son and Mrs.
S. R. Joines spent the week-end
in North Wilkcsboro visiting rela

Texas, is here for a visit with his
sisters, Mrs. Frank C. Cunning
ham, at her home on Totla, and
Mrs. Delphia Bishop at Cullowhee,
This is Mr. Mashbtirn's first visit
to his native home in 25 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kirk a,nd
young son, John Loyd, spent-Sunday
in Blairsvillc, Ga., visiting Mrs.
Kirk's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.'H.
Davis.
Mr. -and 'Mrs. Berry Rigdon and
two daughters, Sarah Florence and
Nan, who have been visiting Mr.
Rigdon's sister, Mrs. R. M. Rim
mer and Dr. Rimmer for the past
two weeks, left .Wednesday morn
ing for their home in Tifton, Ga.
Mrs. John Rigdon, mother of Mrs.
Rimmer, will spend several weeks
here visiting.
Mrs.. John B. Toomer, of Char
lotte, and Mrs. J. Lamb Johnston,
of Gainesville, Ga., are spending
several days here visiting their
sister, Mrs. T. J. Johnston, at her
home on Harrison avenue.
Jack Stribling, who is working in
Andrews, is spending this week
here with his family.
Mrs. J. A. Deal, who is in Angel
hospital, was reported Wednesday
morning to be resting very com
fortably. Mrs. Belle Bowers and daughter,
Miss Helen Bowers, of Springfield,
111., spent several days here with
Mrs. Bowers' sister, Mrs. W. W.
McConnell and Mr. McConnell, at
their home on lotla street.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ritchie, of
Rabun Gap, Ga., were among the
business visitors here Wednesday.
Mrs. James Jennings and young
son, Jimmy, of Greenville, S. C,
are spending two weeks here vis
iting Mrs. Jennings' brother, Rufus
Joines and Mrs. Joines, at their
home in East Franklin.
Mrs. Fred Pasa, of Hayesville,
spent Sunday visiting her aunt,
Miss Annie Slagle, on Wayah.
License Examiner To
Be Here July 21
George A. Stewart, drivers' li
cense examiner, of Asheville, will
be at sheriff's office in Franklin
on July 21 from 8:30 a. m. until
12 noon, for the purpose of giving
examinations to all those who want
to obtain operator's or chauffeur's
license. He will give examinations
in Franklin every other week at
the above mentioned 'hours.
Series of Meetings to
Begin Sunday at lotla
A scries of meetings will begin at
the lotla Methodist church next
Sunday, July 18, at 8 p. m.
Rev. . J. J. Edwards, pastor, will
be in charge of the services, and
announcement will be made later
as to the hours of service each day.
A cordial invitation is extended
to all to attend these meetings.
