H. Parrish, at their home at West's Mill. Mrs. Fleet Scroggs fund three children returned to their home in Statesville Monday morning, after a visit here with Mrs. Scrdggs' parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. T. Smith, at their home on Bidwell street. Miss Mary' Slagle, who is at tending summer school, spent the; week-end with her parents, Mr. , and Mrs. Carl S. Slagle at their home on Cartoogechaye. She was accompanied by Miss Peg Jordan, of Kcyser, West Va., who was the guest of Miss Slagle over the week-end. Miss Emma Gribble, who has been spending several months in Lake Helen, Fla., came in last week and is spending some time with Mr. and. Mrs. J. L. Barnard Mr. and Mrs. Vance. Mauney and Vance, Jr., and Miss Reta Cun ningham came in Saturday from Charlotte for a visit with Miss' Cunningham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Cunningham at their home on Franklin ' Route" 3. ' Mrs Mauney will remain for a visit of several days, while Mr. Mauney re ( turned to his home Sunday. ' Mr. and Mrs. Harry Christenson, of East Orange, N. J., and Miss Lula F. Hartsell, of Asheville, spent Thursday and Friday of the past week at West's Mill, the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Mc Lean. Kenneth Conley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Conley, is spending some time at Rocky Mount visiting re latives and friends. . Robert Cornwell and Charles Troxler, of Tullahoma, Tenn., spent the week-end here with the form er's sister, Mrs. Frank Leach. . Mrs. J. H. Young, of Portland, Ore., arrived here Friday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie T. Blaine, at their home on Harrison avenue. Mrs. H. B.. Terry, of Acworth, Ga., spent last week at Riverview Inn and while there was visiting with Mrs. D. G. Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Gerrard and small daughter have moved from Atlanta to the Lyman' Hig don house. Mr. Gerrard is super visor of the Nantahala national forest. Brabson Bulgin left Wednesday for Roanoke, Va., where he wil work ,a few weeks with E. W Allfather, who is . employed witl the bureau of public roads. Mrs. Tom McCoJlum and daugh ter, Mimi, of Lenoir, are here for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. McCollum. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Crogan, of Trenton, N. J,, stopped a while here Wednesday visiting friends Mr. Grogan was former state man ager for the Woodmen of the World, order and has spent much time in Franklin. Mrs. J. A. Deal, who has been in Angel hospital, has returned to the home of her daughter, Mrs T. J. Johnston on Harrison ave nue. Mrs. Deal, whd has been quite ill, is slowly improving. . Mrs. Betty Baty and granddaugh ter, of Greenville, S. C, are spend ing several days visiting Mrs. Baty's brother, John O. Harrison, at his home on Harrison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Bolick, of Arlington, Va., came in Saturday for a visit with Mr. Bolick's mother, Mrs. Moody Bolick, at her home on Ctillasaja and Mrs. Bol ick's mother, Mrs. Hester Sellers, at her home on Franklin Route 4. Mrs. Homer P. Nichols and three children, of Jackson, Miss., are here for a visit with Mrs. Nichols' mother, Mrs. C. H. McClure, at her home on Franklin Route 2. R. L. McGaha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGaha, of West's Mill, who underwent an operation for the removal of his appendix at Angel hospital Saturday morning, is reported to be doing nicely. Mrs. Robert Pcnland, of Clay county, who is in Angel hospital, where she underwent an operation for the removal of her appendix Sunday, was reported by hospital attendants to be getting along nicely. Mrs. J. W. Smith and daughter, Alice, of Long Beach, Calif., are spending some time in Macon county visiting the former's sisters, Mrs. Charlie Stiles, at her home near the roller mill, and Mrs. T. J. McGuire, at her home on Culla saja. On Sunday, July 25, Joe Setser took his mother, Mrs. Andy Setser, and Mrs. Lee Waldroop, Lawrence Setser, Louise and Bobby Wal Miles, at their home on Bidwell street. Harley Cabe, clerk of superior court, who has been in Angel hos pital for several weeks recovering from an operation for a ruptured appendix, is much improved and has been moved to the Watkins hotel. He expects to be back in his office within the next few days. Births Mr. and Mrs. Lisher Greene an nounce the 'birth of a daughter, Doris Lucille, at their home on Cartoogechaye Thursday, Joly- 22. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Cartledge an nounce the birth of a daughter, Grace O'Kelly. at their home on Tuesday, July 27. Both Mrs. Cart ledge and young daughter are do ing nicely. Revival Services at A. M. E. Church Evangelistic services are being conducted at Ray's Chapel A. M. E. Z. church. Miss Mable B. Gary, a well known evangelist of Raleigh, is leading the services. The meeting will continue for 10 days and all signs point to 10 days of spiritual fervor and good results for the Master. The public is invited. E. Johnson Alackay, Pastor Carl W. Setser Dies At Home of Sister Carl W. Setser, 43, died at the home of his sister, Mrs." Blanche Stanfield, at Carey, N. C, Sunday evening at 6 o'clock, following an illness of six months. Funeral services were held Mon day afternoon at 3 o'clock at Wad esboro, his former, home. Mr. Setser had been with the state highway "department for the past 16 years. He was widely known throughout Macon county,' having spent his earlier life here. . The deceased is survived by his widow, the former Miss Eva Wood ard, of Wadesbdro; his father, C. A. Setser, of Franklin; four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Stanfield, of Carey; Mrs. Belle Shive and Mrs. Eleanor Kirkland, of the Belgian Congo; and Mrs. -J. W. McLeod, of Row land, N. C. ; two brothers, Robert Setser, of Carey, and Claude Setser, of Los Angeles, Calif. Box Supper Saturday At Mount Zion Members of the Epworth League of the Mount Zion Methodist church will give a box supper Sat urday night, July 31.
