PAGE EIGHT THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACON IAN THURSDAY, AUGUST 5, 1937 Scouts Hold Regular Meeting Tuesday Night The regular monthly meeting of the Troop committee of the Frank lin Boy Scout troop was held at the Kelly Tea Room Tuesday night, July 27, 1937. The matter of the annual en campment trip was brought up for discussion, and it was decided the troop would be taken to Chatta nooga, Tenn.', for one- week during the month of August, in order that the boys may visit Lookout moun tain, Fort Oglethorpe; the .Chica maiiga power development of the TV A, and other points of interest in ' ami aroun'd Chattanooga. The details-for the trip are being work ed out by the various members of the troop committee, and the en campment will be in charge of the scoutmaster, Jimmy .Mauser. A '.report was heard from Charles Hunnicut, who' was the representa tive from the Franklin troop to the National Jamboree at Washington,, I). C. . The committee voted to continue its annual $1(K) membership with the Daniel Boone council of the Boy Scouts ot America at Aslieviuc. Singers to Meet At Tellico August 15 The singers composing church classes, choir leaders, quartets and soloists, who are in the northern division of the Macon county sing ing convention, are recjuested to meet with the Tellico Baptist church on the third Sunday in August, at 1 p. m., for the purpose of re organizing the third Sunday eve ning singing. Walter Dal ton., Pres. Carl D. Morgan, Sec. Scout Court of Honor Held Monday Night Smoky Mountain district, court of honor of the Boy Scouts was held in the' Baptist church Monday night. Mr. Crowell, chairman of this district, presided, with A.' W. Allen, scout executive of the Daniel Boone council, in charge. A number of boys from- Chero kee, Sylva and Franklin were pro moted. . Brown spent Wednesday in Asheville. Mrs. Lamb Johnston, of Gaines ville, (la.; Mrs. W. E. Deal, of Hamilton, N. C, and Mrs. John B. Toomcr, of Charlotte, are spending several days here with their sister, Mrs. T. J. Johnston, at her home on 1 larrison avenue. Mr. and Airs. Charles K. Robin son and daughter, Susan, and Mrs. Kope F.lias, of Asheville, spent Thursday of the past week here with Mr. Robinson's brother, J. S. Robinson, at Dixie Hall. J. M. Hodge, of California; Miss .Maude Hodge, of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Mrs. J. A. Hamby, of Bloitntville, Tenn., spent two weeks here with their sister, Mrs. E. B. McCollum. While here they toured the Smoky Mountains . national park. . Mrs. George R. Sheldon, of Salt Lake City, Utah, is expected to ar rive here Friday to be with her mother, Mrs. J. A. Deal, who is seriously ill. Miss Ruth McCollum has return ed to her home in Atlanta, after spending two weeks with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. McCol lum. Mrs-. Marion Pearce, of Albuquc que, N. M arrived here this week for a visit with her parents, Mr. and . Mrs. E. II. Hunnicutt. Mrs. Pearce will be remembered as Miss Katherinc Hunnicutt. "Blackberry Bill" Picks 485 Quarts William Carder, owner and man ager of the Carder Piano company in Atlanta, has been coming to the Moody Farms for the past 23 years. This tourist home fs situated in the beautiful lotla Valley, where Tiundreds come yearly.. Mr. Carder is known to every one here as "Blackberry Bill." He received his name by picking so many blackberries each summer. Already this year he has picked 485 quarts. These, he turns over to Mrs. Moody at the farm and she in turn maks them into pies, jellies and jams. "Blackberry Bill," a Democrat from Vermont, was the first boarder at the Moody Farm. He comes yearly because he likes the climate, which is so much like that of his native home, Vermont. Game Technicians Visit Nantahala Forest E. A. Schilling, regional game technician of the U. S. forest ser vice, and Fred Ruff, game technic ian of the U. S. forest service in North Carolina, spent some time on the Nantahala national forest dur ing the past two. weeks making a survey of the game possibilities and developing plans of action for the administration of the game management areas which are being developed cooperatively by the U. S.. forest service and . the North Carolina department of conserva tion and development'. Tentative plans were drawn up for these areas for the joint approval of the forest supervisor and North Caro lina commissioner of fish and game. Already boundaries are being post ed and it is expected that these plans of action for the development of the fish and game resources of these areas will be well under way by September 1. DeHart Reunion To Be Held Sunday The DeHart family reunion will be held next Sunday, August 8, in Swain county, two miles west of Bryson City, on highway N. C. 10.
