THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 1937 THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACONIAN PAGE THREE SOCIAL ACTIVITIES and COMINGS AND GOINGS LEDFORD-SHOPE Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Bnrdelle Ledfonl to Quince Shopc, which took place Saturday, June 20, in Gainesville, Ga. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. George Lcdford and the late Mr. Lcdford, of l'rcntiss. Mr. Shone is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. V. Shopc, also of Prentiss. Mr. and Mrs. Shope are now making their honie at I'rcntiss. RECEPTION GIVEN TO HONOR MRS. FAISON Complimenting Mrs. John R. Faison, a recent bride, Mrs. 'Gilmer A. Jones, Miss Apy Harrison, Miss Elizabeth Slagie, Miss Pauline Powers', Miss Carolyn Nolcn, and Miss Mildred Moore were joint hostesses .at a reception Friday afternoon, from 4 to 6 o'clock in the home of Mrs. Jones, ' The home was attractively deco rated for the occasion with ar rangements of mixed garden flow ers. The lace-covered table was centered with a dainty arrange ment of zinnias. As the guests arrived, they were greeted by Miss Nancy Jones and Miss Elizabeth Slagie, on the spa cious porch while: they registered in the guest book presided over by Miss Amy Harrison. At the front door Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones, and Mrs. Eloise G. Franks received and made the presentation to ' the receiving line, composed of the honoree, Mrs. John U. Faison, Mrs. . W. R. Sechler, Mrs. J, . B. Highsmith, Miss Jessie Powers, and Mrs. C. C. Herbert, Jr. Miss Pauline Powers and Miss Rosalind Bulgin then invited the guests to the lawn where Miss Margaret Cozad and Miss- Ruth Slagie presided at punch bowls. They were assisted in serving by Miss Carolyn Nolen, Miss Mildred Moore, Miss; " Virginia Slagie, Misses Lillian and Dorothy. Jones, and Mrs. R. D. Carson." week, the hoiiscj guest of Miss Elizabeth Sloop. She was also maid of honor at the wedding of Miss Helen Davis to Chris Echoff, which took place at Old Thytira church near Salisbury. Miss Sloop also en-, terlained with a bridge luncheon honoring- Miss Dowdle on Tuesday. She was also guest at several other parties while visiting in Moores-ville. MISS ELIZABETH DOWDLE ENTERTAINED AT MOORESVILLE Miss Elizabeth " Dowdle7 returned to her "home here Friday, from Mooresville where -she spent a Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. McNeal, and daughter, Anna, of Chester,, Pa., arrived Thursday to spend a few days with Mrs. McNcal's par ents, Mr.- and Mrs. Tom Reeves, at their home on liurningtown. They returned on Saturday and were accompanied by Annie Mae White, Mrs. McNeal's niece, who will attend school in Chester this year. Mrs. Fannie McCoy, of Asheville, who accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. McNeal to Franklin, re turned to her home Saturday. Mrs. G. W. Grindstaff, of Kcene, N. H.. arrived Thursday for a week's visit with her mother, Mrs. J. F. Palmer, and brothers, James and Joe Palmer. Mrs. Rosie Griffith and daughter, Gerry, who have been spending sev eral weeks visiting friends and re latives in Franklin and vicinity, have returned to their home in Pittsburgh, Pa. .Mr. , and Mrs. Charles Calloway and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cal loway and family, all of Philadel phia, Perm., and Mr. and Airs. Gportre Callowav and family, of TugaTo, Ga., spent a while here Saturday with friends. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Jones and young daughter have returned to their home in Tamna. Ha., after a visit here with Mrs. Jones' moth er, Mrs. K b. Johnston, and sister, Mrs. G. L. Houk. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Nolen and two sons, Phillip, Jr., and Charles, of Montgomery Ala., are spending a week in Franklin visiting friends. C, spent last week in Franklin visit-: ing friends. Mrs. G. S. Buchanan and young son, Glen Lee, of Atlanta, are spending several days visiting Mrs'. Buchanan's mother, Mrs. B. M. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Russell, of Aquone, were here on Monday of this week. Mrs. J. A. Bryson and two chil dren, Joe and Margaret, returned to their home in Columbia, Mo., Monday, after spending severa. weeks visiting Mrs. Bryson's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. H.' D. Dean, at their home on Oak Grove and other relatives in Macon county. Bernard Hall, of Detroit, Mich., is here for a visit with his mother, Mrs. John Hall, at her home an Bidwell street. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Justice have returned to their home on Franklin Route 4, after a visit in Hender sonville and ' Flat Rock. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Patton spent Friday and Saturday of. the past week in Asheville on business. Miss Sarah Kclpin, of Atlanta, is spending several days here vis iting her grandmother, Mrs. Myra Allman. Rev. and Mrsrf W. B. Underwood spent a lew uays in Kidgeerest attending the annual Baptist con vention. At this convention Rev. Dr. George W", Tructt, president of the Baptist world alliance, will do the preaching. Dr. Triiitt, a native of Clav county, is widely .known here to a large circle of friends. Mrs. Walter Bennett and two children, of Atlanta, are spending this week at West's Mill visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Ben nett was formerly Miss Georgia Bryson, of Macon county. Clyde Clark' has returned to his home at West's Mill,' after spend ing a month in Washington, Idaho and several other western states. Ross Zachary announce the birth of a son, Claude Ross, Jr., at their home in Concord on Saturday, July 11. .Mrs. Zach ary will be remembered as Miss Katherine Siler, formerly of Macon county. J Two Nantahala CCC Camps Rate Highest Officials of the Nantahala nation al forest, with hearquarters at Franklin, statal that two CCC camps within the forest were given the highest ratings within tlieir re spective sub-districts by army in spectors for the month of July. Camp N.'C. F-ll, near Dhaka, N. C, in subdistrict "C", aiup N. C; F-24, near Robbinsv ille, N. C, in sub-district "B", were the camps receiving this honor. Both of these camps arc located within the Nantahala ranger dis trict on this forest.
