CONLEY, PHONE 104 HASKET-HIGDON " Mr. and Mrs. Levi Haskett an nounce the marriage of their daugh ter, Otelia Haskett, of Ellijay, to T. B, Higdon, Jr., of Higdonville, son of T. B. Higdon, Sr. , The wedding was solemnized at the home of the bride's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Moore, at Hig dnnville, on October 25. Arthur Mosteller, a justice of the peace, officiated. The young couple plan to make their future home in Clarksville, Ga. . seriously ill with influenza for sev eral days. ' At the close of the meeting a white elephant sale was held which furnished much amusement for all present. The proceeds are to be kept m the treasury for local use. Refreshments were served by the hosttss. and Helen poster, also Mrs. Zoell ner. Before the refreshments a toast was given to the bride by Miss Conley. Musical selections were given by Herschel Henson. HURST-SOUTHARDS Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss May Hurst to Venson Southards on May 8. Miss Southards is from West's Mill and is a graduate of Franklin high school. Mr. Southards was formerly a member of CCC camp F-20 at West's Mill. RECEPTION GIVEN FOR MR. AND MRS. DOWDLE Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Dowdle en tertained at a reception Friday eve ning in honor of their son, Charles Norman Dowdle, and his bride, the former Miss Margaret Hall, of Sylva. " Miss Virginia McGuire greeted the guests and presented them to the receiving line, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Dowdle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Norman Dowdle, and Mr. and Mrs. David M. Hall, of Sylva, parents of the bride. Mrs, Dowdle,- mother of the bridegroom, was attired in black velvet with orchids, Mrs. Hall, mother of the ' bride, wore an orchid chiffon with a shoulder cor sage of orchids. Mrs. C. N, Dowdle wore black velvet. Her flowers were . rosebuds and lilies of the valley, Miss Margaret Cozad and Miss Elizabeth McGuire directed the guests to the dining room. The table was overlaid with an exquisite lac cloth, centered with a silver bowl filled with pink rosebuds and fern. Flanking this were silver candelabra holding lighted white tapers, carrying out a color motif of yellow, , pink, and white, which was furthered in the ice course served. The spacious home was artistical ly decorated in quantities of yellow, pink, and white chrysanthemums, interspersed with fern. More than 300 friends called dur ing the evening. ' FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN FOR MRS. BULGIN Miss Rebecca Conley was hostess for a farewell party Saturday eve ning at the home of her aunt, MrS. A'dolph Zoellner, honoring Mrs. Brabson Dulgin, hee Miss Jean Hall, a recent bride, prior to her departure4 for Detroit, Mich. Each guest, a former schoolmate of Mrs. Bulgin, brought a gift, which was laid upon a table with a yellow chrysanthemum and ever green centerpiece. The same color scheme was carried out through out the living room. Delicious refreshments were served later in the evening, and the hostess was assisted in - serv ing by Misses Esta Mae Childers MRS. CHURCH ENTERTAINS PAST WORTHY MATRONS Mrs. H. E. Church entertained with a luncheon Monday at her home in the Orlando apartments on Harrison avenue, complimentary to all the past worthy matrons of the Tuckaseegee Chapter of the Eastern Star at Bryson City. At the October meeting it was decided to present each worthy matron with a little token of re membrance on their . birthdays. Sunday being v Mrs. Church's anni versary, the ladies presented her with a ibeautiflul bowl of pottery filled with narcissus bulbs. Those from Bryson City enjoy. ing the hospitality of Mrs. Church were: Mrs. Vinnie Carter, Mrs. A. R, Messer, Mrs. A. M. Bennett, Mrs. Frank Frye, Mrs. A. J. De Hart and Mrs. , J. F. Rider and Mrs. W. C. Penn, of Franklin. Auction Sale I 'I Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Church will leave Friday for Charleston, S. C, for a visit with their son, H. E. Church, Jr., who is a freshman in Citadel college there. Mr. and Mrs. Church will be there for parents) day Saturday and also to attend a football game. J. Zachary, ' and sister, Mrs. Harry S. Higgins. Mrs. , J. Lamb Johnston, of Gainesville, Ga., came up Friday to spend-the week-end with her sister, Mrs. T. J. Johnston, at her home on Harrison avenue. W. R. Johnston, of Sylvester, Ga., is spending this week here "with his sister, Airs. Mary Allman, who lias been quite ill with influenza. Mrs. Allman is reported to be much improved. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tysinger, Jr., and son, Bobby, left Sunday for Lexington, where they will spend this week with Mr. Tysinger's mother, Mrs. Annie Tysinger. Lee Russell, of Aquone, was among the business visitors here Tuesday. Mr. and Airs. Herman Dean have moved from their home on Wa tauga to the Munday hotel . and will operate the hotel for a while. SHOWER FOR MRS.. BRABSON BULGIN ' Mrs. Lon Campbell was hostess at a miscellaneous shower Thursday afternoon at her home on the Bry son City highway, honoring Mrs. Brabson Bulgin, the former Miss Anna Jean Hall, whose marriage was recently, announced. Approximately 100 friends called during the afternoon,, leaving a beautiful assortment of linens, pot tery, silver, blankets, comforts, and a variety of other articles. The hostess, assisted in the din ing room by Mrs. Douglas Nichols, served punch and wafers. " MISSIONARY CIRCLE MEETING HELD WITH MRS. CABE The first monthly devotional arid business meeting of the Mary Johnston Allman Circle, a branch of the Women's Missionary society of the Franklin Methodist church, met at the home of Mrs. Carl P. Cabe on Thursday evening, No vember 11. Twelve of the charter members werepresent and four new mem bers were added to the roll during the meeting. ' The program 'was in charge of Mrs. Roy Cunningham with Miss Frances McNeill and Miss Ruth Slagle assisting. ; The circle voted to prepare a box for the Passmore family, whose home was destroyed by fire Mon .day, November 8.
