Basketball team played Ra-bun Gap team .on Wednesday. ... Rehearsals are being held for a play to be given early in March by the Christian Endeavor. The play is entitled "Red Hot Peppers." Those taking part are Tessie Mc Dowell, Peggy Thompson, Ruth Carter, Carolyn Potts, Mrs. Sidney McCarthy, Charjie Paul, Wendell Cleavelarid, Steve Potts, Roliver Baty, and Jack Potts. The Rev. R. B. DuPree will direct. GOAL FOR PRESIDENT'S FUND SET AT $100 The .Infantile Paralysis founda tion Fund in Highlands is, at time of going to press, $37.95, as an nounced by the chairman, C. C. I otts. This amount includes $16.25 which was received from the Keno party given by the Chamber of Commerce, and $6.20 received from the benefit motion picture given by the Highlands School Theatre. Donations amounting to $5.50 and a gift of $10.00 from the Masonic Lodge were also received to make up the above total. .- A President's Birthday dance will be held at Helen's Barn on Satur day flight, the proceeds of which will, be given to the Foundation Fund by Sam Wilson. Tickets for the . dance may 'be obtained from Henry Cleveland. Anyone who desires to help this most worthy cause may make a donation, large or small, to the committee, of which C. C. Potts is the chairman. Mr. Potts has set an unofficial goal of $100 for High lands. Let us try to meet it. LEWIS-SOWELL An announcement made at the Merion golf club in Philadelphia on jthe evening of January 22 , is of interest in Highlands, as it reg istered the engagement of Miss Eleanor Lewis, the ' daughter of Judge Edwin O. Lewis, to Adkins Sowell, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Sowell, of Bryn Mawr. Since 'his early childhood Mr. So well has spent summers in High lands at the home of his grand parents at the Adkins cottage. WEEKLY CLINIC TO BE ESTABLISHED Plans are being formulated for the establishment of a weekly clinic in Highlands. Dr. Padgett, the county doctor, and Miss Dixon, the county nurse, will have office hours one day each week and will give advice and help to those who wish .it. Further announcement of this will be made as soon as plans are perfected. Miss Flood and Miss Dixon will speak at ' the Parent Teacher Association meeting on Tuesday about this work. PRESENTS INTERESTING PROGRAM "Imitating Christ in , Witnessing" was the title of the program pre sented at the regular meeting of the B. Y. P. U. on Sunday night. Several new members took part in the program, following which the meeting adjourned with the sing ing of the B. Y. P. U. song "Loyal ty to Christ." CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR WILL PRESENT PLAY On Sunday , evening the Christian Endeavor meeting was called to order by the President, Sidney Mc- ducted the devotional period, with SCHOOL NOTES " i he Parent-Teacher Association will hold its regular monthly meet ing on Tuesday, February 1, at 3:45 p. hi;, in the school. In the course of the business meeting several matters will be discussed. Miss Flood, district supervisor of county nurses, will speak. Miss Dixon will also be present at the meeting. Fol lowing the meeting there will be a social hour during which refresh ments will be served. '.;. During the month of January the school children have been taking subscriptions for McCall's Magazine to help install a hot water tank in the lunch room. Several donations were also made and the total amount received from ,the project is $12.60. Mozelle Bryson won the prize of $1 for obtaining the most subscriptions, Nancy Potts won the second prize of two movie tick ets, and Jessie Ann Potts won the third prize, which was one movie ticket. Those taking part in the play were Frances Hedden, Maurice Calloway, Eileen Waller, Ray Johnson, and James Johnson. Mary Lou Hedden recited "Flap Jack Song," Betty Speei presented "Sister's Hand - Me Downs," and "The Newsboy" was was given by -Robert Beal. As a piano solo Barbara Zoellner play ed "The Court Ball" and Angela Anderson played "Tales of the Night Wind." Tbe showing of a motion picture followed the pro gram, v. . '...' The following original poem was written by Leona Nofton who is in the sixth grade. Several mem bers of the class have shown talent in composing poetry.
