PAGE TEN THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACON I AN THURSDAY, MARCH IT, 1938 PATTON HEADS GREETING BODY (Continued' From Page One) by. the advertising committee of the board of conservation and develop ment, will be two-fold: to act as .a welcoming committee to all visitors entering North Carolina, and to en deavor to secure throughout the state a unanimity of purpose and action in the state's promotional campaign. In general, the idea of the gov ernor's hospitality committee is to develop a .thorough-going spirit of hospitality toward visitors which will make a definite impression on the "stranger 'within our gates." As this idea permeates the state the satisfaction of the visitor will be reflected to his contacts back home and the results of the state adver tising campaign will 'be cumulative. North Carolina may easily gain fame as the "Friendly State." The county chairmen, appointed by the governor, and the commit teemen, appointed by the county chairmen, are to be active- repre sentatives: of the governor and the state, in ' the matter of creating hospitality among the people, of North Carolina and being1 host and hostess to the visitors who come to this; state for recreational, busi ness, industrial and other purposes. Mixed Breed Hen Lays Large' Egg An egg weighing three and one half ounces was brought to The Press offke Wednesday. The egg was from a hen of mixed breed belonging' to Vannie Sanders, of Prentiss. Weather Station In Postoffice Building A weather station, consisting of the necessary apparatus to measure rainfall, wind velocity, temperature and relative humidity, has been in stalled by the U. S. forest service at the postoffice building in Frank lin in connection with the U. S. weather bureau. The purpose of the weather sta tion is mainly to secure additional data helpful to the fire suppression organization which is carried on by the Nantahala national forest. Fach morning the record of the amount of rainfall as well as the maximum and minimum tempera tures for the preceding 24 hours is placed in the foyer of the post office building, for the information of the public. It is posted on the wall opposite the letter drop. Last Rites Conducted For Jesse Duyall, 30 The body of Jesse Duvall, 30, of . near Almond, Swain county, was brought to the Cowee Baptist church cemetery for burial Sunday at noon after funeral services were held at the home with the Rev. Mr. Stansberry in charge, Mr. Duvall died at his home Fri day following-an illness of several days of pneumonia. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Duvall, formerly of Macon county, one sister, and two brothers. B. M. Angel, of Higdonville, who underwent a very serious operation at Angel hospital Friday, was re ported ta be doing very nicely Thursday.
