PAGE EIGHT THE FRANKLIN PRESS AND THE HIGHLANDS MACON IAN THURSDAY, APRIL I, m Death Claims For Old Age Insurance Being Paid Relatives of several young men in Macxn county have received government checks, recently, in payment of death claims for old age insurance provided by the so cial security act, Graham Martin, manager of the field office of the social security board at Asheville, said today. Benefits which accrue to the credit of young employees are not lost, in case the young man or jwoinan dies, after working for a while in a job covered by old age insurance provisions of the so cial security act. "Whether a de ceased worker may have been 16 or 60 makes no difference," said Mr. Martin. "If his wage or salary rec ord shows that he had participated in the government's old-age insur ance program, his relatives are im mediately entitled to whatever ben efits may have accumulated to his credit." The average amount of the old age insurance claims certified in February to claimants in North Carolina was $22.95. Mr. Martin stated that there are two types of lump-sum payments that can be made at any time after January 1, 1937. One is the death benefit which the Federal govern ment is paying to relatives of workers who have died since Jan uary 1, 1937, and whose wage earnings between the last day of 1936 and the day of their death entitled them to benefits. The other type of lump-sum benefit, now pay able, is for men and women, still living, who have reached 65 since December 31, 1936, who have been paid wages in a factory, shop, mill LEGAL ADVERTISING NOTICE, OF SALE Stat of Nurth Carolina, County or Maoon. More than 2,000 claims for lump sum payments of old-age insurance from the state of North Carolina have been certified for payment by the social security board, since the first of January, 1937. "This means,' Mr. Martin said, "that most of the claims we-have received in-North Carolina for lump-sum payments of old-age insurance benefits have been approved by the social se curity board, and forwarded to the United States Treasury for pay ment." , All that is necessary in order to secure claim application blanks is to call at the social security board office in Asheville, or simply write to that office, and ask for suitable application forms. Without cost, assistance in fill ing out the forms will be given to claimants by any field office of the social security board. After the forms are properly made out, the claim is then sent to Washington for final adjudication and, settle ment. When the claim is approved, a creek will be mailed to the prop er claimant.
