This practice has produced a de crease in the school attendance, which, if continued, may cause the Highlands school to lose a teacher for the next school year. A certain attendance average must be maintained. The diphtheria scare in this district last fall has already seriously lowered the attendance record, and any further decrease -is yery likely to cause the school to have one less teacher next year. ... The incubation period . of jnumps is three; weeks. Since, there are' only twb weeks' remaining of this school term, it seems advisable that all children continue their school attendance, unless they actively have the disease, in order that they may complete their . work and ad vance in their grade. If a child contacts mumps now, it will be three weeks before the disease, de velops. There is no cause for alarm over the occurrence of these few cases of mumps... The further spread of mumps may be checked .if the pre caution of caughing'ip a' handker chief is observed. The family phy sician should be consulted as soon as the first sign or sympton of illness is observed. ' P. G. Padgett, M.D., 4 Asst. District Health Officer, Macon Covmty Health Dept. REV. J G.
