CONLEY, PHONE 104 SILVER TEA GIVEN BY EP.ISCOPAL AUXILIARY , As a feature of St. Agnes Epis copal church jubilee, marking the fiftieth anniversary of ' consecration, the Woman's Auxiliary gave a silv er tea last Friday afternoon at the residence of Miss Lassie Kelly. The sun room was decorated with iris and other spring flowers. The tea table with lace cloth had a, beau tiful centerpiece of yellow, with candles. Receiving were Miss Kelly, Mrs. Frank Bloxham ami Mrs. J. W. Cantey Johnson. Pouring tea and coffee were Mrs. T. J. Johnston and Mrs. Jesse Sloan, assisted by Mrs. W. H. Sellers. A musical pro gram was given throughout the afternoon by Mrs. B. W. Wood ruff, Mrs. James L. Avcrrill, Mrs. Bloxham, Miss Dorothy Sloan, and the music pupils of Mrs. Henry W. Cabe and Mrs. Harry S. Higgins. miss godwin honored at party in sylva Miss Kathleen Hooper' was hos tess on, Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home of her par ents, Dr, and Mrs. D. D. Hooper, at a rummy party,, honoring her house guest, Miss Katherine God win, of Franklin. Miss Carolyn Gibson made high score, Miss Breyl Hooper second high, and Miss Mary Jane Cow . and scored low. All received awards and the honoree was given a guest prize. -Throughout the games little prizes were given to. each person who scored one hundred. Refreshments were served. Those attending were Miss Godwin, Miss Frances Allison, Miss Carolyn Gib son, Miss Jeannette Farmer, Miss Breyl Hooper, Miss Matilda Wil son, and Miss Mary Jane Coward. were 30 invited guests and members present. Mrs. R. M. Rimmer, president, presided over the business t session and after the reports from the va rious committees, gave a very in teresting account of her visit to the Rose show in Thomasville, Ga., last week. Mrs. Frank Higdon reported on the progress made in getting the old Junaluska Inn lot on Main street in readiness to be planted in flowers by the club members this summer. Much of the work is to be done by the Boy Scouts, "under the supervision of James Hauser, scoutmaster. Mrs. B. W. Woodruff, chairman of the program, committee, read a paper on "The Arrangements of Flowers and the Containers," which was very interesting as well as in structive. " Miss Mary Willis, Mrs. W. C. l'enn, and Mrs. W. A. Rogers, were appointed to plan ways and means for the club to raise money to help defray the expense of the flower show, which is to be put on here this summer. The next meeting' will be held at Arrowood Glade with Mrs. W. C. Penn, Mrs. Jack Weyman and Mrs. R. M. Rimmer as hostesses. The hostesses served delicipus re freshments at the conclusion of the meeting. GARDEN CLUB MEETS AT FRANKLIN TERRACE The Franklin Garden ' club met on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Franklin Terrace for the regular monthly meeting, with Miss Mary Willis, assisted by Mrs. H. MOODY The Macon County Chapter of the United Daughters of the Con federacy will meet at the home of Mrs. Frank F. .Moody, at the Moody Farm, on Monday after noon, May 9, -at 3' o'clock. ' MISS DIXON ENTERTAINS BUSINESS GIRLS CIRCLE llie Business jGirls circle of the Franklin Presbyterian church was entertained Monday evening by Miss Josephine Dixon and Miss Lucy Sue Gray. ,. A lovely supper carrying out a color scheme of green and yellow was served by the hostesses. A very interesting round table discussion, using the topic of "The Christianity the World Needs" was led 'by Mrs. Helen Macon. Following the program a social hour honoring Miss Virginia Mc Guire, retiring chairman of the circle and .bride-elect of June, was enjoyed. The club presented Miss McGuire with a beautiful electric dripolator in appreciation of ser vice rendered the circle. The Misses Davenport, who with their mother, spent the past winter in Paris, arrived in Boston on the Samariaon Easter-Sunday. They, encounte icd many large icebergs, which would cause the ship to stop for six hours or longer. These girls are granddaughters of Mrs. Mary B. Day and nieces of Mrs. L. H. Page, both of Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. John Sewell, of Miami, Fla., arrived in Franklin last week to spend the summer at their home, on Summer Hill. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Latham and young daughter, of Maynardsville, Tenn., spent the past week-end at Buck Creek ranch visiting , Mr. Latham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. -Latham. . . Mrs. C. S. Brown, who spent the past week here with her mother, Mrs. H. O. Cozad, left Saturday for her home in Moultrie, Ga. Mr. and-Mrs. Paul H. Gerrard and daughter, Jacqueline, have mov ed from the" Lyman Higdon house to the Mrs. Nina McCoy house on Harrison avenue. Miss Dorothy Stewart, of Atlanta, will spend next week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Stewart, at their home on River view street. . H., Sun day, after spending the latter part of the week here with relatives and friends. Mrs. Grindstaff came with her husband to Asheville' to attend the funeral, of her husband's father, B. C. Bryson' and daughter, Mil dred, of Franklin, spent Tuesday at Beta, with Mrs. Bryson's sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe Mallonee, who is quite ill. On Thursday, April 7, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Morgan, at their home in the Mill shoal township. Everette Rickman, of near Can ton, has been visiting his mother, Mrs. J. W. Rickman, who is quite ill at her home at Leatherman. Dr.Furman Angel is building a ten-room house on the hill over looking the golf course. He has recently painted his home on Har rison avenue. Houston . at their home on Sugarfork on Saturday, April 16. On Wednesday, April 6, a daugh ter, Betty Bernice, was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Carl D. Moses at their home oh Ellijay. Mr. and Mrs. Joe, E. Gregory announce the birth of a son, Gor don Dean, on Thursday, April 7, at their home in Millshoal town ship. Will iamson announce the birth of a son, at their home on Cartooge chaye on Friday, April 15. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Cabe an nounce the birth of a daughter, Nancy Rose, at their home on Bonny Crest, on Saturday, April 23. Highway Patrolman Now Stationed Here J. H. Coman, state highway pa trolman, is now stationed in Frank lin and has moved into the Wright apartment on West Main street.' Mrs. Coman has not yet arrived but is expected soon. Mrs. Porter On World's Fair Committee Mrs. T. W. Porter, of Franklin, has been appointed as a member of the North Carolina advisory committee on women's ' participa tion in the New York World's Fair to be held next year. The appointment was made by Grover Whalen, president of the fair, upon the .suggestion of Miss Beatrice Cobb, North. Carolina chairman. INTERESTING TWINS AT WEST'S MILL Leo Bryson and Vista Bernice Hurst,, twins, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hurst, of West's Mill, were born on May 5, 1933. Leo and Bernice have always been very healthy children, and at birth Bernice weighed eight pounds, "While Leo weighed seven and three fourths pounds, and she has kept from' two to three pounds ahead since. Bernice, who is. a brunette, is much taller than her brother, while he is a medium blonde. The only resemblance in these twins are their eyes, which are medium brown. MUSICAL PROGRAM AT METHODIST CHURCH SUNDAY The Young Peoples Bible class of the Franklin Methodist church, will have a musical program in ob servance of Mother's Day, 1 in the church auditorium on Sunday after noon at 5 o'clock. The Rev. H. S. Williams, pastor of the Franklin circuit, will be the principal speaker, and the music will be under the direction of Mrs. Gilmer A.
