CONLEY, PHONE 104 V CURTIS-ORR Mrs. Ailcen Curtis, of Asheville and Franklin, announces the mar riage of her daughter, Miss 'Annie Lee Gurtis, to James Kay Orr, son ham. H,e later took a course in architecture from the University of Chicago. He studied music with Miss Irene. Weaver at Franklin and later studied organ under Dr. Arn- of Mr. and Mrs, J. E. Orr, of old Daniv and Dr. James Alderson, Andrews. The wedding ceremony was per formed in Htawassee, Ga., on Sat urday, July 3, 1937, at the home of the Kev. Frank Lloyd, the officiat ing minister. Mrs. Orr is a graduate off the Franklin high school and a popular member of the young social set of Franklin. Mr. Orr is a graduate of the Andrews high school and of the University of Georgia Forestry school of the class of 1938. Mr. and Mrs. Orr will reside in Andrews for a' short while. The bride-elect has published more than 100 compositions including or gan numbers, anthems, school choruses and cantatas. A recent composition, a madrigal for women's voices, will be sung by students of the Westminster Choir school, Princeton, N. J., in their annual spring festival. The poem which Miss Lorenz set to music is by Frances Frost. Miss Lorenz majored in musical theory at Wellesley college, where she was graduated with musical honors and won the Billings prize. She was chosen student organist and choir director at Wellesley. After graduation she taught music in Akron, 0., and studied compo sition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris while directing the activities of the student house of the Amer ican church. At this period she won a prize offered for composition by the Society for Feminine Arts. Since her return to Akron, Miss Lorenz has been director of a choir in that city. In 1935 he went to Tuc son and has just "completed a course in public accounting-, at Arizona School of Commerce there. He has been active in church and musical circles in Tucson. He is vice-president of the Cavillon club and organist and director of the junior choir of the vFirst Methodist Episcopal church in that city. Following the luncheon, a busi ness session was held, after which an enjoyable contest was given. Mrs. Frank Frye was winner of the first prize, while Mrs. Amy Morgan won the second prize. C, is spending several days in Franklin, the guest of Miss Nina Carpenter. Miss Carpenter, who has been teaching school in Westminster the past year, return ed to her home here last week. Crawley came up from Macon, Ga., last week to be with her brother, Rufus Roper, who- died Tuesday afternoon, and for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Louisa Evans, at her home on lot la. - Excavation started Tuesday for a six-room brick bungalow for Dr, and Mrs.. R. M. Rimmer on Bid well street. A new five-room stucco house is 'being erected by Mr. and Mrs. Manson Stiles also on Bid well street. Mrs. Ora Daugherty, of Bryson City, spent the latter part of the week in Franklin, the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Church at their home in the Orlando apart ments on Harrison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McGlam ery and daughter, Willa Gene, re turned to their home here Tuesday after a visit with Mr. McGlamery's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Mc Glamery, in Asheville. While away Mr. McGlamery spent some time in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. and Airs. C. L. Case, and Miss Nell Case, of Hendersonville, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Case at their home on Bid well street. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Clarke Soper have as their guest, Mr. Soper's sister, Mrs. Richard Hardy, of Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Brown ing and daughter, of Bryson City, were visiting at Oak Grove and Franklin Monday. Miss , Frances McNeil was home economics teacher in the Franklin high school last year. Sam Alexander, former assistant farm agent for Macon county, was visiting friends here Monday. Miss Mary Cornwell, of near Nashville, Tenn., spent several days the past week visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Snyder, near the Cozad roller mill. Dr. and Mrs. Robert H. Wright, Jr., and children, Robert III, and Carolyn McLean Wright, of New port News, Va., arrived on ; Friday to visit Mrs. Wright's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. L.
