CONLEY, PHONE 104 DOWDLE-WILLIS Among one of the most impor tant social events scheduled for June will 4e the wedding of Aliss i Sarah Elizabeth Dowdle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus L. Dowdle, and William Ellison Willis, Jr., of Greer, S. ., Which will take place in a formal ceremony at the Frank lin Methodist church on Saturday evening, June 18, at 8 o'clock. The Kev. J. E. Abernethy, pastor of the bride-elect will officiate. Prior to the ceremony and during the taking of the nuptial vows a program of special music will be rendered by Mrs. W. B. Kesler, of Salisbury, with Seth Gabriel, of Mooresville, and . Miss Mathilda Geiger, of Mt. Airy, as vocalists. The bride-elect will be given in marriage by her father. Miss Elizabeth Sloop, of Moores ville, will be maid of honor, while Ida Mae Dowdle, sister of the , bride, will be junior maid of honor. The bridesmaids will be Miss Elizabeth McGuire, Miss Margaret Slagle, Miss Margaret Franks and Miss Leeida Beshears, of Franklin; Miss Nancy Barb.ee, of Seaboard, N. C; Miss Kathleen Capps, of Areola, N. C; Miss Janet. Griffin, of Rich , Square, N. C; and Miss Margaret Fulton, of Walnut Cove, N. C, all former classmates of the bride-elect at Woman's, College of the University of North' Carolina at Greensboro. The ribbon bearers will be Caro lyn Long, a cousin of the bride elect, Elizaibeth Wiseman, Chris tine Troutman and Betty Lindsay, of Kannapolis, and the, flower girl will be little Miss Mary Ann Kil lian, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Killian, of Franklin. Master Jimmy Harbison, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Harbison, of Kanna polis, will be ring bearer. The candle lighters will be Tom my Angel III, Victor Perry, Fred erick Johnston Houk, of Franklin, and Billy Fesperman, of Kanna polis. The trainbearers ' will be Frank L. The bride-elect is being exten sively entertained by a series of pre-nuptial parties prior to her marriage. Miss Dowdle has a charm ing personality. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and of the Woman's College of the Uni versity of North Carolina at Greensboro! For the past two years she has taught in the public schools at Kannapolis. Mr. Willis is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Willis, of Cottageville, S. C. He was graduat ed from Woffard college in Spart anburg, S. C. For the past three years he has held the position of camp educational advisor in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Many out-of-town guests will ar rive the middle and latter . part of next week for the wedding. YOUNCE-JAMISON Miss Geraldine Younce and John Jamison were married in Clayton, Ga., Wednesday night in a very quiet and simple ceremony, with Ordinary Smith performing the cer emony. Mrs. Jamison is the daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. ' Younce, of Rainbow Springs, while Mr. Jarni son is the1 son of Grover Jamison, a prominent business man, and the late Mrs. Jamison, of Franklin. ' They were accompanied to Clay ton by Miss Kate Cox and Otto Arvey, of Franklin.' . SEWING PARTY GIVEN FOR BRIDE-ELECT On Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock Miss Virginia McGuire, bride-elect of June 18, was' honor guest at a sewing party and kitch en shower, given by Mrs Ben Woodruff at her home on Harrison avenue. The guests were asked to bring sewing kits and the morning was spent embroidering tea towels, which were presented to the honor guest. Miss McGuire received many useful and attractive gifts from the guests. Miss Elizabeth Dowdle, also a (bride-elect of June 48, was remembered! .., Refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. James L. Averell and Mrs. Frank Killian. SHOWER AND PARTIES FOR MISS DOWDLE Miss Elizabeth Dowdle, bride elect of June 18, was honored at a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. J. S. Conley on Harrison avenue Tuesday afternoon. Hostesses for the occassion as sisting Mrs. Conley were; Mrs. W. A. Rogers, Miss Virginia McGuire, Miss Margaret Cozad and Miss Grace Conley. The living room and dining room, which were thrown ensuite, were beautifully decorated in arrange ments of pink larkspur and baby's breath. The dining table, covered with an exquisite lace cloth, was centered with a bowl of pink Lark spur and baby's breath, while the buffet held similar flowers, and was flanked with tall pink tapers. The color scheme of pink and white was furthered in the refresh ments. Miss Dowdle was taken on a ! treasure hunt by following a string through the house and across the lawn, At intervals along the way and at the end packages were hid den. , . . , Those attending were: Mrs. M. C, will be a social event of June. Miss Dorothy Carson, was winner of the high score prize and Miss Jane Hildreth won low score prize. Miss Dowdle was presented a shower. The hostess was assisted in serv ing a salad course by her mother and Miss Doris Jones, of Golds boro. Miss Sloop will be maid oihon or for Miss Dowdle at her mar riage. Miss Dowdle was the honoree at one of the prettiest parties of the spring Thursday night at the home of Mrs. J. T. Fesperman, on South Main street. The living room of the. Fesper man home was lovely with 'white flowers, including magnolias, lark spur and feverfew. A miniture bride marked the place where Miss Dowdle was to sit. Contract was played at five tables, with Miss Lazelle Fellows, Mrs. J. W. Harbison and Miss Elizabeth Sloop winning prizes. An electric iron was presented Miss Dowdle. - The guest of honor received a telegram during the evening tell ing her to go to another room in the home. Arriving there she found gifts piled high for a kitchen shower. The hostesses served a salad course following out the bridal scheme of green and white. Miss Margaret Fulton entertained at a house party at her home in Walnut Cove, honoring Miss Dow dle, and . Mr. Willis, with 20 in vited guests present. Miss Dowdle was honor guest at a bridge party given by Miss Nor ma Montgomery, with three tables of bridge in play, The honoree was presented linen guest towels. A salad course was served at the conclusion of the playing. Mrs. W. J. Bullock was hostess at two tables of bridge, compli mentary to Miss Dowdle. The hon or guest was presented hose. -The hostess served a delicious salad course. A further courtesy tendered Miss Dowdle was when Mrs. Roy W. Reece entertained with eight tables of bridge in play. The honotee was presented a set of sherbets in the crystal pattern. The hostess served a salad at the conclusion of the playing. GARDEN CLUB MEETING AT ARROWOOD GLADE The Garden club met at Arrow- wood Glade Monday, afternoon for their regular June meeting with 25 members present. After the reports were made from tlie various , committees, the date of the flower show was plac ed for Saturday, July 30, subject to a change if necessary. The .committee .appointed .to find a suitable place to hold the flower show - were: Miss Alary Willis, chairman; Airs. II. E. Church, Mrs. Henry W. Cdbe and Mrs. W. A. Rogers.
