' Other guests of honor were John Orr, Grand Chaplain, Miss Leuna Tatham, district deputy worthy ma tron for the 12th district, Mrs. Amy Morgan, district ' committeewoman and Mr. Robert Wells, the principal of the Franklin school, and Mrs. Wells. The table decorations were yel low, and bronze gladolii in blue bowls with yellow tapers in blue candle holders. Mrs. Lola P. Barrington, worthy matron of the local chapter, was hostess, and, Superintendent M. D. Billings, from the local Masonic lodge, was host. The guests were met at thePdoor by Miss Elizabeth Slagle and pre sented to the receiving line, com posed of Mrs. Lola P. Barrington, M. D. Billings, Mrs. Athalea Brown, John Orr, Miss Leuna Tatham, Mrs. Amy Morgan, Mrs. Eunice Hill Church, Mrs. Leola Penri and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wells. After dinner talks and expres sions of welcome were made by the following: Paul Gerrard, from the U. S. forest service; John Archer, president of the Rotary club; Mrs. Henry Slagle, chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary and Gold Star Mother; the Rev. H. S. Williams, pastor of the Franklin circuit; Mrs. Lyman Higdon, own er and manager of the Frances Shoppe; A. R. Higdon, adjutant of the American Legion; R.'V. Miles, president of the Chamber of Com merce; J. S. Conley brought greet ings and words of welcome from George B. Patton, mayor of Frank lin and chairman of the Governor's hospitality committee, and Super intendent Billings spoke in behalf of the local Masonic lodge. Mrs. W. C. Penn gave a toast to the. honoree, Mrs. Athalea Brown to which she responded very - gra ciously. Covers were laid for approximate ly 50 guestsImmediately after the banquet, members of the Order proceeded to the Masonic Hall where a , special meeting was held for Mrs. Brown, who was making her official visit of the year. Mrs. Stribling, who recently und erwent a very serious operation at Angel hospital, was able to be taken to Highlands Tuesday wher she will spend several weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Holt, while recuperating. She was accom panied by her daughter, Mrs. Myra Ellard. A. E. Griffith and Miss Ann Tankersley, of Athens, Ga., arriv ed Sunday to join Miss Lucy Grif fith at Trimont Inn. Miss Esta Mae Childers and Miss Louise Blaine left Saturday morn ing for Philadelphia, Pr., where they will spend 10 days with the former's brother, Henry D. Childers and Mrs. Childers. On their return they will visit Miss Childers' broth er, Lester Childers and Mrs. Child ers, at their home in Hopewell, Va. Moses Blumenthal and family have moved from the Charles Brad ley house to the newly erected house of Manson Stiles on Bidwell street. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wells, who have been attending summer school at the University of North Caro lina, at Chapel Hill have returned to Franklin. Mr. Wells is the new principal of the Franklin high school. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Kinnebrew and young daughter, of Washing ton, D. C, spent the week-end in Franklin visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Bomer Hill and daughter, Miss Wilmot Hill, have returned to Charleston, W. Va., after a visit to Mr. Hill at Trimont Inn. A party was given Monday after noon for Pheobe Stanfield, in hon or of her 12th birthday. Many in terest games were played, and delightful refreshments were served. There were 26 guests present.
