CON LEY, PHONE 104 DILLS-BA1RD The marriage of Miss Cassie Dills, ''daughter of' Mr. and Mrs John Dills, of Franklin, to C, D, Baird, son of the lateDr. C. D Baird and Mrs. Baird. of franklin took place in a simple, bu pretty ceremony, Sunday afternoon, Oc tober 2, at4:30 o'clock, 'in Clarkes ville, Ga. ; Ihe marriage ceremony was per formed at the Methodist parsonage, with the Rev. Mr. Sewell, pastor of the Clarkesville Methodist church, officiating,' in the presence of a few intimate friends of the couple The bride was attired in a wine crepe dress with accessories wine. She is a graduate of the Franklin high school and of the Athens Business college, in Athens, Ga. She is now employed with the WPA employment division in Frank lin. 1 Mr. Baird, son of the late.Dr, Baird. a dentist of wide reputation and Mrs. Baird, has. been chief of police for the town of Franklin for more than four years, and is well known for his efficiency. Mr. and Mrs. Baird were accom panied to Clarkesville by Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, a sister of the bridegroom, and Ralph -, Welch, all of Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Baird will make their home in Franklin. JAMISON-TURNER Miss Eloi.se Jamison, of Franklin and T. C. Turner, of Atlanta, were quietly married in "Clayton, Ga., on Friday evening at 7 o clock. irank Smith, ordinary, performing the ceremony in the. presence , of a few close friends. Mf s. Turner, is the daughter of Grover Jamison, a prominent jewel- er. and the late Mrs. Jamison, ane wore a suit .of navy blue wool, with accessories m blue. She is a gnauu ate of the Franklin4 high school and was very popular among the vouneer set in rrarkhn. Mr. Turner, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Turner, of Atlanta. He has spent the past four years in Macon county. At present he is first chef at the CCC Camp N. . Gi F-23, at Otto. Immediately following the cere mony Mr. and Mrs. Turner left for Atlanta and other points in ueor eia on a short wedding trip. After their return they will be at home in the McCoy apartments on Main street. They were accompanied to Clay ton by Miss Helen' Cunningham, Miss Meta Peek, James. P. Wurst and Ralph Wimberely, of Franklin. Miss Reta Shields, of Clayton, Ga., also attended the wedding. SANDERS-TALLENT Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sanders, of Prentiss, announce the, marriage of their daughter, Miss Minnie San ders, to Mr. Jud Tallent, of Frank lin Route 3, in Clayton, Go. The 'bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sanders. She has at tended Western Carolina .Teachers' college at Cullowhee, and is at pres ent a teacher in the public schools of Macon county, where he has been teaching for the past 16 years. Mr,, Tallent is the son of the late Erwin Tallent and, Mrs. 'Emmie Tallent, 6f Franklin Route 3. He is a prominent farmer : of the .Iotla section and they will make their home there. WURST-SHAW Announcement has been madeof the marriage of Miss Mary Louise Wurst, of Orlando, Fla., and Frank lin, to Walter A. Shaw, of Orlando. The wedding ceremony was per-: formed on Wednesday, September 21, in Orlando. Mrs. Shaw, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wurst, of Orlando, and Franklin, has been employed -as bookkeeper for the American Laundry company in Or lando for the past year. Mr. Shaw is the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Shaw, of Orlando. He is associated with the Jefferson Court hotel, where he and Mrs. Shaw, will reside. , Mrs. Shaw is the sister of James P. Wurst, of Franklin j Mrs. James E. Brookshire, of Cashiers; Miss Helen Wurst and E. George Wurst, of Asheville. W. M. S. ZpNE MEETING HELD AT MT. ZION The Zone meeting of the Wo man's Missionary societies of the Methodist churches in Macon coun ty, met at the Mt. Zion' Methodist church on Cartoogechaye Saturday, for the regular quarterly meeting. Mrs. ' Fred Slagle, Zone leader, for Macon county, presided over the shbrt business session. Splendid re ports on the year's work were made from the . various societies in the county, ' - Mrs.- George Hampton, district spiritual life leader, from Canton, gave a very interesting talk, using as her theme "This Cross, Our Conquest" Mrs. Ruth Coleman, of Canton, sang a solo, "Teach Me to Pray, Lord," accompanied by Mrs. Harry S. Higgins at the piano. " Mrs. F. E. Branson, district sec retary of the Wayriesville district, of Canton, was present and talked on ."Christian' Workmen," during which short sentence prayers were given by the group. A short talk was made .by .Mrs. J. Dale Stentz, of Waynesville, using as 'her topic, "His Commission or Challenge." The main theme ' brought out wa$ "Christ's Own Commission and the Call of Disciplineship." The Rev. S. R. Crockett, a Presbyterian minister of Cartoogechaye", also made a short talk. The meeting being in the. nature of a retreat, was the first the zone societies in the county' had ever held. The Holy Communion was ad ministered by the Rev. S. R. Crock ett and the Rev. H, S. Williams, pastor of the Franklin circuit. Representatives from six societies were present,, with about 50 mem bers in attendance. The societies represented were: Snow Hill, Iotla, Franklin, Union, Bethel and Mt. Zion. The next meeting will be held with the franklin society at tne Franklin Methodist church in Feb ruary. A delicious picnic dinner, was served at the noon hour. Recent Bride i'J ' 4 t i '.?V MRS. ERNEST DUVAL Who, Before Her Recent Marriage, Was Miss Ina Henry, of Franklin high school and introduced to the new teachers in the faculty. Mrs. T. W. Angel, Jr., and Mrs. S. H. Lyle, Jr., directed the guesti to the dining room and assisted in serving. Mrs. J. W.; C. Johnson, Mrs. H. E. Church and Mrs. John Archer poured tea and coffee from the beautifully appointed table, which was overlaid with a lace cloth. The centerpiece was a bowl of roses. Cakes and mints, decorat ed in the pastel shades, were served-to about 75 "guests who called during the hours.. Dahlias and other 'fall flowers were attractively arranged through out the house. U. D. Myers entertained with a dinner Sunday at her home on Franklin Route V honoring her husband on his 66th birthday anni versary. A delicious dinner was thorough ly enjoyed by all and the honoree wa the recipient of many lovely birthday presents.. , Those attending were his chil dren and their families, including: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cansler and daughter; Mrs. Herschel Townsley and daughter, Nancy, of Brevard ; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Duvall and family, of Iotla; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Myers and two" sons, of Franklin Route 2; Mr. and Mrs. James Myers and family, of Iotla, and Mr. and Mrs, Sam Hall. TEA GIVEN FRIDAY FOR TEACHERS . One of the outstanding social vents of last week was the infor mal tea given at the Kelly Tea Room on Friday afternoon by the Varen-Teacher association, , as a courtesy to the teachers in the Franklin high school and the ele mentary grades, . The quests were greeted at the door by Mrs, John Wasilik, Jr., president of the association and Mrs. Helen Macon, teacher in the Miss Reta Shields, of Clayton. Ga., spent the week-end in Frank lin, the guest of Miss Helen Cun ningham, at her home on Harrison avenue. Mrs. Ada - Hyatt, of Franklin Route 2, ' is spending this week at Webster visiting her daughter, Mrs. j Don Davis and Mr. Davis, Mrs. R. D. Sisk came over from Bakersville . last week for a short visit with . Mr. and Mrs. Ferdy Hlgdon, 'at their home on Iotla' street. ' J. M. Hodge, of Long Beach, Calif., is spending a few days here with his sister, Mrs. E. B. Mc Collum and Mr. McCollum, at their home on Palmer street. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cansler and Mrs. Hershel Townsley arid daugh ter, Nancy, of Brevard, spent the week-end with Mrs. Cansler's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Myers, at their home on Franklin Route 3. D. P. Cabe, of Otto, who under went a serious operation in the Greenville General hospital, Green ville, S. G, recently, returned Satur day in-a much improved condition. Mr. Cabe is. now at the home o; his son, Carl P. Cabe and Mrs. Cabe on Harrison avenue. W. -Claude West came in Mon day from Detroit, Mich.,; for a visit with his father, W. J,. West, who is ill at his home at West's Mill. Miss Timoxena Sloan, of Atlanta, spent the week-end with her moth er, Mrs. J. S. Sloan, at her home in East Franklin. G. Lyle Jones and son, Georgi Jones, of, Asheville, were here a while Tuesday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cabe have moved from Rabbit Creek to theii newly erected home on Cat Creek. Mr. and Mrs. W. H.. Morgan, oi Brevard, spent the week-end visit ing Mr. Morgan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Morgan. Billy Blaine, who is a student at Mars Hill collegespent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Blaine, at their home on Har rison avenue, returning to his school duties Sunday evening. W. W. Sloan, who has been working in Atlanta, Ga- for the past year, has" returned to Franklin and taken over the management of the Sloan Grocery store. Mr. and Mrs, Robert Vedder, of Arcanum, Ohio, and1 Mrs. W. S. Cook and little granddaughter, Nancy Lee Rozzell, of Greenburg, Ind., came in Monday for a visit with Mrs. Vedder's and Mrs. Cooks mother and sister, Mrs. J. J. C6n- ley and sister, Miss Charlotte Con- ley, at their home on fc.ast Main street. Mrs. Wade Moody . and daugh ter, Marian, of Asheville, .spent the week-end with Mrs. Mwdy s .moth er, Mrs. John B. Ffamsey, at her home on Iotla street. Mrs, Lon Campbell left Sunday for Verden, Okla., where she wil spend a month with her aunt, Mrs, C. W, Protznuan. Mr, and Mrs. Richard PenLand and son have returned to their home in. Akron, Ohio, "after 'spend ing a week with ,Mr. Penlan'd's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lex Pen land, at their home on Bonny Crest. On their return they were accompanied by Mrs. Fenland who will spend several days in Akron visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Conley and yciung daughter have moved to Canton, wheie Mr. Conley will be manager of a filling station. Charlie Russell, manager of the Atlantic. & Pacific grocery store, has returned from Washington., D. G, where he has been on his vaca tion. ' Kenneth Cabe, a student at Bre vard college, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Cabe, at their home on Riverview street, returning to Bre vard Sunday evening. Miss Gwendolyn Morgan, who is attending Brevard college, accom panied by Miss Sarah Morgan, of Anderson, S, C, also a student at Brevard, spent the week-end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Morgan, at their home on Harrison avenue. I Mr, .and Mrs, Sara Greenwood, of Gainesville, Ga., spent the week-end with Mr, Greenwood's aunt, Miss Lassie Kelly, at the Kelly Tea Room, and Mrs. Greenwood's rnbther, Mrs. Erwin Patton, at her home on Franklin Route 1. Miss Marjorie Murphy, who is teaching school in JJuford, Ga., spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs,. K. B. Trousdell on Harrison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Patton spent the latter part of the past week 'in' Asheville .on business. The condition of Mrs. George Mallonee, who has been quite ill for the past two weeks was some what improved Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Lakey and three sons, of Hunters, Wash., and Mrs.. Charley Lakey, of Soda Springs, Idaho, are spending a couple of weeks on Oak (irovn with their brother, Jess Lakey Vand Mrs. Lakey, and other relatives in Macon county.
