CONLEY, PHONE 104 VINEGUM-BAKER Miss Katherine Vinegum, of Whittier and Franklin, and Wood row Baker, of Statesyille and Frank lin, were married in Clayton, (ja., Sunday evening. R. C. Kamey, or dinary, performed the ceremony in the presence of a few invited friends. 1 . Mrs. Baker, who has made her home in Franklin for the past 18 months, is the daughter of the late ' Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Vinegum, ,of Whittier. Mr. Baker, is the .son of Lee Biaker and the late Mrs. Baker, of Statesville. He came to Macon county four years -ago, an enrollee in a CCC camp. During his first two years he was in the camps at West's Mill, Otto and Highlands. For the past year he has. been em ployed in the Nantahala national forest service, stationed at Frank lin. ' Mr. and Mrs, Baker will 'make their home in Franklin. MORRI5-PEARCE 'The marriage of Miss Mary Dan Morris, of Salisbury and Asheville, daughter of. Mr. and Mrs, D. W. Morris, also of Salisbury, to Alvah Pearce, of 224 Chestnut street, has been announced. The wedding was solemnized October 16 at the First Methodist church of Salisbury with the minister, the Rev. Walter West, officiating. The bride was educated at Salis bury high school and took a train ing course at Mission hospital in Asheville. .. ' The bridegroom is with, the Stan dard Oil company and is located in Asheville where the couple will reside. Mr. Pearce, as pharmacist in Smith's Drug store, made his home in Franklin for a number of years. MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER . FOR MRS. C D. BAIRO One of the largest and most at tractive parties of the fall season was the miscellaneous shower given on last Thursday afternoon by Mrs. "W. T. Moore and Mrs. Roy F. Cunningham, at the home of the former on the Georgia road, as a courtesy to Mrs. C. D. Baird nee Miss Cassie Dills, a recent bride. The living room, where more than 100 friends gathered during the ' afternoon, was artistically ar ranged with bowls of white, yellow and bronze chrysanthemums and other fall flowers. The dining room table, which was overlaid with an exquisite lace cloth, was centered with a crystal bowl of mixed fall flowers placed on . a reflector. At either corner of the table four burn ing white tapers were placed. The honoree was the recipient of many attractive and useful gifts, such as linens, woolen blankets, dishes, pottery, cooking utensils and many other gifts too numerous to mention. The hostesses assisted by Mrs. Carl Tysinger, Jr., and Mrs. Amos Harris, served delicious punch, cake and mints. MRS. C. L. BLAINE CELEBRATES 68th ANNIVERSARY Mrs. Charlie L. Blaine celebrated her (58th birthday anniversary at her home on Gartoogechaye Sun day with a dinner. ; A delicious dinner was enjoyed by the family and a large number of friends who gathered to wish Mrs. Blaine many more happy jbirtndays. She was the recipient of many nice gifts. 1 . LEGION AUXILIARY OFFICERS VISIT FRANKLIN Mrs. Herbert Taylor, Dunn, president of the American Legion auxiliary of the state of North Carolina; Miss Arelia Adams, state secretary and Mrs. AC. Duncan, aerial vice-president, made their of ficial visit to ; the Franklin. Macon' .auxiliary on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Taylor, who was' introduced by Mrs. Lola P. Barrington, gave ' ' ' ' 'ill J ' ' a very able and Inspiring address after which ,she installed the fol lowing officers for the ensuing year: Mrs. Lola' P. Barrington, committeewoman for the 20th dis trict; Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones, presit dent; Mrs. John Wasilik, vice president; MrsJ. E. Perry,-secretary and treasurer; Mrs. J. Henry Slagle, chaplain ; Mrs. Kate Wal droop, sergeant-at-arms. . After the installation Mrs. Jories presented Miss Adams and Mrs. Duncan, who; spoke on the objec tives of the auxiliary for the year, John Wasilik, Jr., commander of the local legion and A. R. Higdon, adjutant, extended greetings and welcome to the guests. Gilmer A. Jones, district com mander, gave the address of the evening. Several musical numbers were very beautifully rendered by Mrs. B W. Woodruff and Mrs. J. L. Averell. A social hour was enjoyed, pre sided over by Miss Las.sie Kelly, Mrs. Jess Thomas and Mrs. J. E. Ash left Monday for her home In Portland,' Ore., after Speeding several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J, L. Bar nard, and other relativesand friends in Franklin.
