Johnston Bible Class of the Franklin Methodist church met last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J, .S. Conley on Har rison avenue for the monthly 'busi ness and social meeting, with 18 members present. Following the resignation of Mrs. Lon Campbell, newly elected presi dent, Mrs. W. W. Sloan was elect ed to serve the remainder of the year. It was decided to hold a pie sale on Tuesday, December 6, to help raise money for the children's or phanage. The December class meeting will be held at "Sunnyside Farm," the home of Mrs. W. W. Sloan, with Mrs. J. S. Sloan and Mrs. Reba Tessier as associate hostesses. Mrs. Conley, assisted by Mrs. Lester S. SLOAN The Woman's Missionary Society of the Franklin Methodist church 'will hold the regular monthly meet ing at the home of Mrs. J. S. Sloan next Thursday afternoon, December 1, at 3 o'clock. All mem bers are urged to be present. MRS. CHURCH ENTERTAINS FOR PAST WORTHY MATRONS Mrs. Herbert E. Church enterr tained with luncheon Monday at her home in, the Orlando Apart ments oh Harri$on avenuet honor ing the past worthy matrons of the ' Tuckaseegee chapter of the East ern Star at Bryson City. The association honors, each wor thy matron with a token of remem berahce on her .birthday anniver sary. The November meeting being on the birthdays of Mrs. Church and Mrs. Cary Morgan, a shower of gifts was given the honorees. They were also presented a lovely bronze vase from the association. Mrs. Morgan extinguished the candles on the large white cocoanut cake, which was served by Mrs. .Church. Following the delightful luncheon a business session was, held, after which Mrs. Hattie Thomas read two very interesting articles , from the Tar Heel News, State Eastern Star publication. During the social hour, a "Turk1 key contest" was held, and Mrs. J. H. Coman was winner of the prize. She was presented a lovely gift by the hostess. Those attending from Bryson City were: Mrs. Hattie Thomas, Mrs, Cary Morgan, Mrs. Vinnie Carter, Mrs. A. R. Messer, Mrs. A. J. De Hart, Mrs. Frank Frye; Mrs. W. C. Penn, of Franklin. , Mrs. R. M. .Waldroop, of Bryson City, and Mrs. J. Hi Coman, of Franklin, were luncheon guests. BAPTIST LAD7iTTO OBSERVE WEEK OF PRAYER The ladies of the Franklin Bap tist church will observe a week of prayer, beginning Tuesday after noon, November 29, at 3 o'clock and continuing through Friday. The program for the "Week of Pnayer for World-Wide Missions" will be used and' the meetings will be held each afternoon in the fal lowing homes : .Tuesday with Mrs. Jack Weyman on Harrison avenue; Wednesday with Mrs. C. F. Rogers, at the Baptist pastorium; Thursday at the home of Mrs. A. R. Higdon on the Georgia road, and Friday at I the home of Mrs! Maude Blaine on West Main street. All members are urged to attend these meetings. Mrs. Frank Jones left Thursday for her home in Akron, Ohio, after spending several weeks with her mother, Mrs. J. B. Stalcup, and her sister, Mrs. Hyldah Shepherd, at their home on Iotla street. Mrs. R. M; Waldroop came up from Bryson City Sunday to spend a few days with her nephew, J. S. Conley and Mrs. Conley, at their home on Harrison avenue. " Jesse Tessier, who has been -sick for the past two weeks suffering with tonsilitis and cold, is able to be back at his work in Sloan's grocery store. Mrs. H. E. Freas, of Murphy, is spending this week with Mrs. T. J. Johnston at her home on Har rison avenue. Mrs. Johnston, who has been confined to her bed for the past month suffering with in flammatory rheumatism, was re ported Tuesday morning to be much improved. . Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Church spent Sunday visiting friends in Bryson City. ' W. T. Moore,- Carl Tysinger, Jr., C. D. Baird, C. Tom Bryson, A. G. Cagle and W. C.
