ADDITIONAL FRANKLIN SOCIAL ITEMS PRESBYTERIAN LADIES ENTERTAIN FOR PASTOR The auditorium of the Agricul tural building was the scene of a lovely surprise birthday party on Saturday evening when the Ladies' Auxiliary of the local Presbyterian church entertained iin honor of the Rev. J. A. Flanagan, pastor of the church. The tables under the direc tion of Airs. Graydon Shuford, were beautifully decorated, using the Thanksgiving motif. The center piece portrayed the scene of the Pilgrims going to church. A three-course dinner was iS.erv.ed to approximately 70 members and guests. Mrs. McGuire, in a few well chosen words, presented Mr. Flan agan with a birthday cake topped with 12 candles, "each candle rep resenting one year of loving, un selfish service on the part of the pastor." Following this Mr. Lee Leach, with appropriate remarks, presented him with a purse, a gift from the men of the church. For fear that too much attention might not be good for the guest of honor, Miss Rosalind Bulgin, chair man of the business girls' Circle, called Mr. Flanagan to the floor and had him walk the "cbalk line." This was not an easy undertaking as his only aid was a telescope. A "spelling relay" was held with the women triumphing over the men. An amusing skit, provoking many laughs, was put on by the business girls' Circle. Following the. skit everybody joined hands in one big circle and sang "Blest Be The Tie That Binds," and 'Taps", after which Mr. Flanagan pronounced the benediction. Expressions of ap proval and the desire for a similar party were heard and plans of the Ladies' Auxiliary will probably in clude such a party for next year.
