'Mr. and; Mrs. L. A. Berry, of
Franklin 'Route 4, have announced
the marriage of their daughter,
Miss Mary Berry, to Earl Justice,
son of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Justice,
also of Franklin Route 4. -. vK
The marriage . took place in An
derson, S. C, on Wednesday, Sep
tember 1.5, 1937. The Rev. J. E.
Dodd, a. Baptist, minister, officiated.
vThc bride is a graduate of the
Franklin high school and of the
Atlanta Business . college, and for
the past three and one-half years
has served as deputy clerk of the
superior court' for Macon county.
Mr. Justice is a graduate of the
Hemphill Diesel '.school, in Mem
phis, Tenn. .
GARDEN CLUB MEETS

Mrs. T. W. Angel, Jr., and Mrs.
Frank M. Killian entertained the
Franklin Garden club Monday aft
ernoon at 3 o'clock at the home of
the former, for the regular month
ly, business and social meeting. There
were approximately 20 members
present.
The. archway leading to the liv
ing room was festooned with greens
and the colored Christmas lights.
The living room was artistically
decorated in mistletoe, holly, hem
lock and nandinas, with the coffee
table being centered .by a large
poinsettia surrounded by attractive
ly wrapped Christmas packages
which were drawn by the members.
Mrs. R. M. Rimmer, president,
presided over the business session;
at which time it was decided . to
confer with the members of the
town about cleaning up the .unsight
ly spots in townl
The meeting was then turned
over to Mrs. W. Q P.enn, who was
in charge' of the program. Those
taking parts, on the program were :
Mrs. Herbert E. Church, who
read a very interesting article' on
Christmas- decorations. Mrs. James
L.Averjll demonstrated a Christ
mas tree for birds. A number of
Christmas carols, led by .Mrs. Aver
ill, were sung by the group.
The refreshments served by the
hostesses consisted of boiled cust
ard, fruit cake, mints and coffee,
with the nosegays of hemlocks,
popcorn and cranberries, ; which
furthered the Yuletide decorations.

'The meeting of the Franklin
Parent-Teachers Association, which
was scheduled to meet on Monday,
December 19, has been postponed
until the Third Monday in January,
it has been announced by Mrs.
John Wasilik, Jr., president.
U. D. C. TO MEET
WITH MRS. CHURCH
The Miacon county Chapter of the
United Daughters of Confederacy
will meet on Monday' afternoon,
December 12, at 3 o'clock with Mrs.
Herbert E. Church at her home, in
the Orlando apartment on Harrison
avenue.
The Swain County Chapter has
been invited to meet with the Ma
con Chapter at this time. It is . to

her home in Atlanta,' Friday, after
.spending several days in Franklin,
the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lester
S. Conley at their home on Harri
son avenue and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Higdon, at their home on Bidwell

of Hartwell; Ga., spent the week
end here with their mothers, Mrs.
C. S. Brown, Sr., and Mrs. H. O.
Cozad.
. J. W. Wilson, of Nantahala, was
among the business men here this

Mrs. James Brighton, who is
working in Ivey's Beauty Shop in
Asheville, is spending several days
With her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John H. Thomas, at their home on
Iotla street. Mrs, Brighton was the
former Miss Frances Thomas.
Miss Anna Rowe, district super
visor of county home demonstra
tion agents, with headquarters in
Asheville, was in Franklin last
week. Miss Rowe was a guest at
Kelly's Tea Room.
. Miss Edna Hayes, of , Waynes
ville, is court stenographer this
week in place of Miss Lassie Kelly,
who is in Brevard reporting Tran
sylvania superior court.
Miss Mary Paschal, supervisor
of women's professional, projects

in Asheville, was in Franklin Fri
day and Saturday.
Mrs. Ellen Garrett, who has been
visiting her sister, Mrs. Henry
Slagle, at her home on Cartooge
chaye, left last week for- King
fisher, Okla., where she will spend
several days with her daughter,
Mrs., James Sandusky, before go
ing on to her home in Lebanon,
Okla.
Mrs.' Frederick 011iner,i of Hia
wassee Dam, is spending several
days with her aunt, Mrs. John
Wallace, at her home on Franklin
Route 1.
Bernice Hurst, small daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hurst, of West's
Mill, who has been suffering from
severe burns, . was reported Mon
day to be much improved.
Mrs. W. W. Edwards, of High
lands, is a patient in Angel hos
pital this. week.
McKinley Edwards, of Bryson
City, is among the out-of-county at
torneys here this week attending
court. ,
R. O. Vance, of Sylva, a patient
in Angel hospital who was operated
on for ruptured appendix, was re
ported to be. getting along nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cunningham
and three children and Mrs. Ed
Davis and daughter, Barbara Ann,
of Winston-Salem, came up Thurs
day for a visit' with Mr. Cunning
ham's and Mrs. Davis' parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John F. Cunningham, at
their home on Franklin Route 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hertzler
and son? who have made their
home at the Experiment Station at
Otto 'for the past several months,
were' transferred last week to Ashe

Miss Miattie Pearl Bryson, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert T.
Bryson, of West's Mill, underwent
an operation at Angel hospital
Thursday. She was reported to be
getting along nicely.
Charles T. Bradley left Sunday
for Washington, D. C, where he
will spend, several days on business.
John Hickman, who is working
in Asheville, is spending several
days with his family at rtheir home
at West's Mill.
Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Moody, of
Murphy, are spending several days
in Franklin attending court.
Robert A. Patton returned to his
home on Harrison avenue Sunday,
after spending several days in Ralr

at their home near the Iotla bridge.
Mr. Taylor plans to teach music in
Macon county after the first of the
