G: M. Keezel, president oi the ministerial association of Knoxvillc, have been guests of Mr. iid Mrs. R. H. Hull during the past week. The work of the six Sunday schools that have been established in this vicinity by Mr. and Mrs. Hull since their missionary work was. opened five months ago, was visited, and a meeting with lan tern slides illustrating work in LEGAL ADVERTISING LEGAL ADVERTISING AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF $35,000 WATER REFUNDING BONDS, $60,000 ELECTRIC LIGHT AND SEWER REFUNDING BONDS AND $30,000 ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER SYSTEM REFUNDING BONDS OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLANDS, IN THE COUNTY OF MACON, NORTH CARO LINA. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLANDS: Section 1. That there be issued negotiable bonds of the Town of Highlands, in the County of Macon, and State of North Carolina, in the aggregate principal amount of not exceeding Thirty-five Thousand ($35,000) Dollars to be designated as "Water Refunding Bonds," pur suant to the Municipal Finance Act of the State of North Carolina, and amendments thereof and supplements thereto, for the purpose of paying, funding or refunding the following described obligations of said Town: Title Rate Date Maturity Amount Water Bonds .. d Jan. 1, 1927 1935-1957 $35,000.00 Section 2. That there be issued negotiable bonds of the Town of Highlands, in the County of Macon, and State of North Carolina, in the aggregate principal, amount of not exceeding Sixty Thousand ($60, 000) Dollars, to be designated as "Electric Light and Sewer Refunding Bonds", pursuant to the Municipal Finance Act of the State of .North Carolina, and amendments therepf and supplements thereto, for the purpose of paying, funding or refunding the following described obliga tions of said Town: ' Title Rate Date Maturity Amount Electric Light and Sewer Bonds ' 6 Feb. 1, 1926 1934-1957 $60,000.00 Section 3. That there be issued , negotiable bonds of the Town of Highlands, in the County of Macon, and 'State of North Carolina, in the aggregate .principal amount of not exceeding Thirty Thousand ($30,000) Dollars, to be designated as "Electric Light and Power System Refunding Bonds," pursuant to the Municipal Finance Act of the State of North Carolina, and amendments thereof and supplements thereto, for the purpose of paying, funding or refunding the following described obligations of said Town : Title .Rate Date Maturity Amount Electric Light and Power Bonds 6 March 1, 1925 1937-1966 $30,000.00 Section 4. It is hereby determined and declared: (a) That the obligations of the Town of Highlands described in Sec tions 1 to 3, inclusive, hereof are valid and binding obligations of said Town and subject to refunding under the Municipal Finance Act of the State of North Carolina, with amendments thereof and supplements thereto, and that all of said obligations were payable at the time of the passage of said ordinance, or will be payable within one year thereafter, or such obligations are to be cancelled prior to the matur ity thereof and simultaneously with the issuance of the bonds authorized by this ordinance to pay, fund or refund such obligations. (b) That abatement of the debt of the Town of Highlands, has been filed with the Clerk of said Town and is open to public inspection pur suant to the provisions of said Municipal Finance Act 'of the State of North Garolina, with amendments thereof and supplements thereto. (c) That the maximum aggregate principal amount of bonds, author ized by this ordinance is One Hundred Twenty-five Thousand ($125,000) Dollars. 1 . (d) That the shortest period in which the debt to 'be funded or re funded by the issuance of the bonds authorized herein can be finally paid without making it unduly burdensome upon the taxpayers of said town is thirty (30) years. Section 5. A tax sufficient to pay the interest on the bonds author ized herein shall be annually levied and collected; and a tax sufficient to pay the principal of said bonds shall be levied and collected at such times and in such amounts as shall be determined by subsequent resolution or resolutions of this Board, provided that the sums so pro vided shall be sufficient to meet the payments of the principal of said bonds as they severally become due. Section 6. This ordinance shall take .effect upon its passage and shall not be submitted to the voters. The foregoing ordinance was passed on the 9th day of November, 1938, and first published on the 15th day of December, 1938. Mr. and Mrs, Hull have estab lished Sunday schools in the fol lowing locations: Turtle- Pond, where a log . building has been erected ; Mountain View and Cowee Gap, Macon county ;. just 'over the line in Georgia, . Fairview, ,Mud Creek, near Scaly, and Mount Tal Lulah. The last place is near Per simmon, where 31 arrests were re cently made for bootlegging, and where there are reputed to be ouried 27 murderers in "the grave yard. Highlands to Have Christmas Pageant On Thursday, December 22, at 8 o'clock in the theatre, Highlands will have its first community Christmas pageant. This is being given under the sponsorship of the Funmakers and the four churches. Mrs. Charles Anderson and Mrs. Tudor Hall are in charge of cos tumes and will welcome the assis tance of anyone who can volunteer. Astelle Edwards and Sarah Thomp son will supervise the decorating of the theatre. But everyone in the community should feel that the evening belongs to him, and that ne lias an active, part in it. This program has been planned as truly a community affair, and iurely at Christmas there is the feeling of brotherly love and friendr ship for our neighbors that will make the residents of Highlands eager to share together their cele bration of Christmas, and the Fun makers are hoping, that with the cooperation of the town, a Christ mas tree can be erected in the center of town. From here the three choruses will lead a caroling way to the theatre, with everyone who will join the procession to make the mountains echo with the ringing of Christmas joy.
