EARL JUSTICE Mrs. George B. Patton and Miss Elizabeth Slagle entertained with a miscellaneous shower on Thursday afternoon at the home of the latter as a courtesy to Mrs. Earl Justice, the former -Mis Mary Berry. The living room, and dining room were attractively arranged in bowls of holly, mistletoe, and other Christmas decollations, and the Yuletide motif was further observ ed in the refreshments. A large number, of friends called during the afternoon leaving dainty and useful packages for the hon oree. 1 BIBLE CLASS MEETS AT "SUNNYSIDE FARM" The F. S. Johnston Bible class of Franklin Methodist church met at "Sunnysade Farm," the home of Mrs. W. W. Sloan, last ' Thursday afternoon with Mrs. J. S. Sloan and Mrs. Reba Tessier assisting in entertaining. Mrs. W. W. Sloan, president, presided. It was decided to send $25 to the Children's or phanage at Winston-Salem. The class will fill boxes with fruits, candies and othfcr good things to eat for inmates at the county home. Those attending were : Mrs. Mary M. Day, Mrs. C. L. Morton, Mrs. W. J. Zachary, Mrs. D. Miss Noraf Leach, who is teach ing .school at Nantahala, is here with her family to spend the Christmas holidays. James D. Patton, H. E. Church, Jr., Charles Slagle, Willard Pender grass, Wayne Franklin, Paul Gib son, Robert Hurst, Dennis Penland, John' Lyle Palmer, Siler Slagle, Floyd Weyman, Carter Hurst, Sex ton Vinson, and Mack Setser have returned to their homes, here after attending school at North Carolina State college at Raleigh. Bill Blaine and Alex Moore, of Mars Hill College, are here to spend Yuletide holidays with their parents. Jimmy Perry, - William Johnson, John Crawford, Philip Blumenthal and Winton Perry, who are attend ing the, University of North Caro lina at Chapel Hill, are here to spend the holidays with their par ents. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Woodruff left Thursday for, Columbia, S. C, where they will spend several days visiting relatives and friends Mr. -and Mrs. James L. W. Reid. Miss Virginia Slagle is here to spend the holidays with her par ents, Sheriff and Mrs. A. B. Slagle, at their home on West Main street, after teaching school at Lockhart, S. C. Mrs. Frank Henry, Jr., and son, Nick, of Cullowhee, came over last week for a nvisit with Mrs. Hen ry's mother, Mrs. Sam L. Franks und Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Henry, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Franklin are moving from Franklin Route 4, to the trotter house on East Main street. Miss Lassie Kelly, Mrs, J. H. Slagle and Mrs, C. C. Cunning ham spent Tuesday in Asheville. 1 Mrs. John Archer and two chil dren left Sunday for Knoxville, Tenn., where they will spend sev eral days visiting relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. M. Wiese, of Buf falo, N. Y., came in Saturday for a visit with their son, Fred Wiese and Mrs. Wiese. Everette Shuler, of Leatherman, underwent an operation at Angel hospital Tuesday for acute appen dicitis. His condition was reported to be very satisfactory Wednesday. John WaSilik, Jr., has returned from Hayesville, where he spent a couple of days attending a scaling school conducted by A. J. ' Streinz, of the Atlanta office, members of the Nantahala and Chatahoochee national forest. 1 J ames E. Calloway, who is in the Army stationed at Fort Bragg, is spending the Yuletide holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Calloway, at their home on Bonny Crest. Mrs. Carl Higdon and daughter, Betty, of Clarkesville, Ga., are vis iting Mrs. Higdon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Ashe, at their home in East Franklin. Mrs. Oscar C. Bryant, who has been suffering with pleurisy for the past 10 days, was reported to be somewhat improved this week. Boone Leach, who is attending King's College, in Bristol, Tenn., is here for the holidays with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Leach. Miss Virginia Smith, who is sup ervisor of public school music at Roanoke Rapids, came in Saturday to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank T. Smith at their home on Bidwell street. Miss Marjorie West, who is at tending Queen Chicora, in Char lotte, came in Saturday for the Christmas holidays with her par ents, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. West, at their home at West's Mill Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown, of Hartwell, Ga., are spending thrs week with their mothers, Mrs, C. S. Brown,, Sr., and Mrs. H. O. Cozad. On the evening after moving into her new home on Harrison avenue, Mrs. Cantey Johnson was surprised by a group of friends who called bringing Christmas gifts , of good things to celebrate the event. Mrs. Johnson expects all her children and grandchildren to be with her on Christmas Day. . Carey Cabe and Ira Cabe who have been working in Barrett, W. Va., are spending the holidays with relatives at Otto. Walter Umburger, a student at Brevard College, spent the week end with Mrs. J. J. Edwards at her home in the Orlando apart ment on Harrison avenue. Mr. and Mrs. 1. B. Southerland, of. Winston-Salem, came - in Tues day to be with Airs. Southerland's father, Carl S. Slagle, who is quite ill at Angel hospital. Mrs. Wade Reece and two sons, of Andrews, spent Monday with her mother, Mrs. Josie Waldroop, at her home on Cartoogechaye. Frank Shope, who is working with the United States forest ser vice in Nashville, Tenn., came in Sunday to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. V. Shope, at their home at Prentiss. Mr. and Mrs. William Willis, of Greer, S. G, came up. this week to spend several days with Mrs, Willis' parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Dowdle.
