Penn, who is attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N. Y., is expected to arrive here the later part of this week to spend the holidays with his par ents, Mjr. and Mrs. W. C. Penn, at their home on West Main street. Misses Ruth Higgins. Dorothy Blumenthal, Betty Rogers and' Leeida Beshears came in Saturday from Greensboro, where they are students at Western Carolina Uni versity of North Carolina, to spend the holidays with their respective parents. Mr. and Mrs. Guy L. Houk and son, Frederick Johnston Houk, left Sunday for Tampa, Fla.where they l will spend a couple of weeks with Mrs. Houk's mother, Mrs. F. S. Johnston. They will also visit Mrs, Houk's sister," Mrs. W. C. Jones and Mr. Jones, and two brothers," Jack and F. S. Johnston and fam ilies. Miss Betty Leach, who is taking a business course at Cecil's Busi ness college in Asheville, is spend ing several days here with her par ents, Mr. and. Mrs. Gus Leach. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Raby and children, of Indian Head, Mo., are spending a couple of weeks with Mr. Raby's mother, Mrs. C. A. Raby, at her home at Etna. , Mrs. Franz Stone, of Columbus, Ohio, and Miss Laura Jones, of Asheville, spent the first of the week here with their grandmother, Mrs. George A. Jones, and Mr. and Airs. Richard S. Jones at their homes on West Main street. Mr. and Mrs. Worth McKenney and Mrs. R. L. Porter, of Asheville, spent Sunday here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Higgins and Mrs. J. D. Porter. J. Frank Ray left Tuesday for Tavares, Fla., to spend several . days with Mrs. Ray who is spending the winter there for her . health. George Stalcup, who has -been confined to his home for several months on account of sickness, was able to be out Thursday of the past week. Clyde Tallent, who is teaching school at Hiatteras, N.. G, came in to spend several days with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Tallent, at their home on lo'tlo. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McCoy, of Gneiss, were here Monday shop ping. Mrs. Mamie Reynolds, who has been spending several weeks with her son, Frank, who recently under went an operation for the removal of his appendix in a Johnson City, Tenn., hospital, has returned to her home . at West's Mill. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Waldroop, of Athens, Ga., spent the wAk-end with Mr. Waldroop's mother, Mrs. Mary Lyle Waldroop, at her home on Cartoogechaye.
