The Council of Social Agencies
will meet on Friday evening, Febru
ary 17. at the Legion Hall, at 6:30.
Mrs. Elizabeth Lurnpkin Glenn,
prominent Lawyer of Asheville, will
be the euest SDeaker. who will ad
dress the gathering on a subject of
vital interest to all.
An entertaining program is being
planned and all members will re
ceive notices at an early date.
Franklin Cagers Win
Two, Lose One
The Franklin All-Stars defeated
Murphy's All-(Stars 34-iy at Mur
phy last Friday night.
On Monday night Franklin won
over the all-star team from An
drews 33 to 29, in a game played
on the local court.
In a game with Brevard in that
town Tuesday night, Franklin lost
to the Brevard Tornado ty a score
of 33 to 21.
Singers To Meet At
Rose Creek February 19
The third Sunday afternoon

division of the Macon County Sing
ing eonvention will be held at Rose
Creek schoolhouse, beginning at 1
p. m., on Sunday, February 19, it
has been announced by Harley B.

73RD BIRTHDAY
J. M. Morrison and Mrs.
Jennie McGaha Are
Honored Sunday
James M. Morrison and Mrs
Jennie Morrison McGaha, both of
the West's Mill community, cele
brated their 73rd birthday anniver
sary Monday. A birthday dinner
was given Sunday at the home of
Mr,&. McGaha for members of both
immediate families.
Mr. Morrison and Mrs. McGaha
are the oldest set of twins in Ma
con county. They were born and
reared in the Cowee community
and reside about three miles apart.
Mr. Morrison lives on his father's
old homestead. Thev are the son
and daughter of the late Joseph
and Margaret Uryson Morrison.
Mr. ' Morrison was married to
Miss Margaret Ann Meadows,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Daniel J. Meadows, of West's Mill.
on October 23, 1892. To this mar
riage were born eieht children, in
cluding twins who died in infancy.
Only three of the children are liv
ing. They are Mrs. Furmian Guv.
of West's Mill; Mrs. Charles Mat
lock and LeRoy Morrison, of Winston-Salem.
On "January 14, 1886, Mrs. Mc
Gaha was married to William A.
McGaha, of the Cowee community.
They celebrated their golden wed
ding "anniversary in 1936. To this
union were born three children, all
of whom are living. They are F.
Pierce McGaha, of Seattle, Wash.,
and Alaska; J. Fred McGaha, of
West's Mill, and Mrs. Lester S.
Conley, of Franklin. The elder Mr
McGaha died on June 17, 1937

of the different organizations in
town, to ask their cooperation ; in
building a. club house for the use
of the various dub,s and organiza
tions in Franklin.
The meeting was then turned
over to Mrs. James L. Averill,
chairman of . the program commit
tee. Those taking part on the pro
gram were: Mrs. A. R. Higdon,
who read a ooem. Mrs. Frank Hitr-
don, who read a very interesting
article on the "Debut of new plants
for 1939" and Mrs. Averill, who
spoke on "Kenmore, the . home of
Betty Washington,"' the only sister
of George Washington.
At the conclusion of the meeting
the hostesses .served refreshments.
