At the regular meeting of the
Parent-Teachers Association, which
-wy,s held Monday' afternoon in the
. high school auditorium, Founders'
Day was observed with an appro
priate program. Mrs. John Wasilik,
Jr., president, presided oyer the
meeting.
The high school glee club, under
the leadership of Miss Josephine
Weaver, and (Hayes Overcash,
members of the high school faculty,
sang three numbers, "Cradle Song,"
"How Can I Leave Thee" and
"Stars of the Summer Night,"
which were thoroughly enjoyed.
The Rev. T. L. Roberts, pastor
of the Franklin Methodist church,
used for devotional the 5th Chapter
of Matthew, followed by a short
talk and prayer.
J. R. Wells, principal of the
Franklin high school, Mrs. James
K ' Verrv and Mrs. Lola P: Bar-
ringtonj were appointed to serve as
a nominating, committee to nomi
nate new officers, for the .ensuing
year.
"America The Beautiful" was
sung in unison, led by Mrs.. Frank
Bloxham, accompanied by Mrs.
James L: Averill at the piano.
Mrs. Hugh Leach, teacher of the
home economic class, gave a very
interesting talk on "Training for
Home' and Family Life.'" J. R.
Wells, gave a short talk on Found
ers' Day, giving the .statistic on
the ' Parent-Teacher Assbciation,
which celebrated its 41st anniver
sary on February 17.
Mrs. Frank Bloxham sang, "The
bong ot Home, ine music is me
familar Largo Movement from the
New World 'Symphony by Antonin
-Dvorak and the words are com
posed by Ellen Jane Lorenz, who
is now Mrs. James Bryson rotter.
She also sang in closing, "A Part
ing Song."
A .short skit on "Home Hygiene"
was presented by four girls of
Miss Josephine Dixon's class.
Mrs. Herbert E. Church, chair
man of the program committee,
announced the program for March,
which will include a talk from
Clyde Gailey, on "Motion Pictures"
and Mrs. Thomas W. Porter, Sr.,
will tell about the "New York
World's Fair." Also a program by
one of the elementary grades will
be given.
Following the meeting, tea and
cake were served from the table
which was covered with a beauti
ful lace cloth over yellow. A silver
bowl filled with yellow jasmine
and yellow jonquils centered the
table, and lighted white tapers in
silver holders were placed diagon
ally on the table. Mrs. L. H. Page
poured tea from one end of the
table, while Mrs. S. H. Lyle, Jr.,
and Mrs. John Wasilik, Jr., serv
ed cake from the other enL

vard college, came over Saturday
to spend th,e week-end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W.
Cabe, returning to his school
duties Monday.

Dixie Store, has purchased the
property of C. A. Setser on Har
rison avenue and is now erecting a
nice bungalow on this property,
which he and Mrs. Swafford will
occupy when completed.
Mrs. Mary Soutberland, of Winston-Salem,
accompanied by her
brother, Siler Slagle, and Charles
Slagle, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.
B. Slagle, who are attending State
college at Raleigh, spent the week
end with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Carl S. Slagle at their home
on Cartoogechaye and Mr. and Mrs.

Miss Audrey Conley returned to

lege Sunday, after being called
home on account of the sickness
and death of her grandmother,
