PELL-WRIGHT
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Pell of
Cashiers, announce the marriage of
their daughter, Miss Jeanne Pell to
Newell Wright, son of Mrs. Annie
Richards and the late Frank
Wright, of Highlands. The mar
riage took place in Clayton, Ga., on
February 11. The bride's sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs; Eu
gene Bryson, were the only atten
dants, , . ! !
Mrs. Wright is a graduate of the
Glenville high school and was. an
outstanding student in her class.
'Mr. Wright graduated from
Highlands high school, and contin
ued his education at Western Car
olina Teachers' college, in Cullo
whee. After a short wedding trip to
points in Georgia, South Carolina,
and North Carolina the young
couple returned to Cashiers where
they will reside for the present.
BAPTIST W. M. S. TO
MEET MONDAY - -
The Woman's Missionary society
of the Baptist church will hold its
regular meeting on Monday, March
6, at the parsonage. The devotional
will be led by the vice-president,
Mrs. Carl Zoellner, and Mrs. M. A.
Pierson will have charge of the
program.
This society is observing the
March week of Prayer. The last
meeting will be held Friday after
. noon, March 3, and the week's of
fering will go to Home Missions,

ROCK BEING BLASTED
FROM LITTLE BEARPEN
A huge ledge of rock, measuring
approximately 300 feet in length,
25 feet in width and 20 feet in
depth, was blasted from Little
Beafpen mountain on Saturday, and
another ledge of like dimensions on
Monday, with only a small amount
of vibration and very little noise,
although 22 bores of dynamite were
used in each blast This, rock is
being crushed for use on the Wal
halla road, which promises to be
one of our finest pieces of road
engineering when completed.

will hold its regular meeting next

' high school auditorium at 3:45
o'clock. After the business session,
the Rev. W. F. Beadle will read
several letters from his brother, P.
M. Beadle, of Rome, Italy, giving
first-hand information on condi
tions in that country and Europe.
Mrs. F. H. Potts and Mrs. Beadle
will be hostesses at the tea which
will be served in the school lunch
room following the meeting.

Fred E. Carter, in Leominster, Mass.,

with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heacock,
who were returning to their New
Jersey home after a week-end spent
with Mr. Heacock', brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Ed
wards. Miss Durgin expects to re
turn to Highlands about the first
of May."
Miss. Ethel Calloway has purchas
ed the E. G. Lombard house on
First street, which has been occu
pied by the McDowells for-the past
few years. MissH Calloway is. repair
ing and repainting the house, and
expects to continue renting to the
McDowells for the present.
. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Root have re
turned after an absence of two
months, and have as their guest
Mr. Root's sister, Mrs. W. P. Bul
lock, of Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Jack Wilcox and her mother,
Mrs. H. D. Randall, left last Friday
for Mrs, Randall's home in Cincin
nati. Mrs. Wilcox expects to be
away about a week or 10 days.

Mrs. R. B. DuPree were Mr. Du
Pree's mother, Mrs. R. B. DuPree,
Sr., and Mrs. DuPree's sister, Miss
Carrie Rickmah; other guests were
Miss Lila Moore and Miss Lilla
Flagg, all of Greenville, S. C.
Miss Daisy Burt, of Sarasota, Fla.,
arrived last Saturday for a visit
with her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Burt, Jr., at
their home in the Mare"tt apart
ments. Friends of - Miss Nannie Rogers
will be pleased to know that she
is able to be out again after having
been .coxxfined to. her home. .for, the
past six weeks with arthritis.
Prof. W. L. Lippincott of Clenf
son College spent the week-end in
Highlands and was the Sunday din
ner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
B. Cook.
Miss Rebecca C. Nail has return
ed to her home on East Main
street after spending the winter in
Griffin, Ga.
Miss Bernice Durgin, Mrs. C. C.
Potts, Richard Zoellner, Robert
McCall and C. H. Zoellner spent
last Saturday in Asheville.
Mrs. Ella L. Billstein is spending
several weeks in 'Lake Wales, Fla.,
but expects to return to her home
in Greenwich, Conn, about the first
of ApriL
Mrs. W. R. Harper has returned
to the home of her brother, , W. S.
Davis, and Mrs. Davis, after a sev
eral weeks' visit in Commerce, Ga.,
with her niece, Mrs. O. D. Bolton
and Mr. Bolton.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Speed spent
the week-end in Franklin with Mrs.
Speed's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.
G. Houston. ,
Dr. and Mrs. C R. Wall, of
Thomasville, Ga., are building a
summer home on their Main street
lot. Louis A. Edwards is the archi
tect and J.- R. Phillips the con
tractor in charge of this work. The
"little red house" formerly on this
property was purchased by W. A.
Hayes and moved to a lot on the
Dillard road.
Friends here have received news
that H. M. Bascom is recovering
from a painful, though not serious,
fall at his. home in New York City.
Mr. Bascom is one of our pioneer
summer residents and owns a beau
tiful home on Satulah mountain.
. A. C. Holt has returned from a
two months' stay in St. Petersburg,
Fla.
Mrs. Floyd Wiley, is in the Bre
vard hospital where she underwent
an operation for the removal of her
appendix last Monday afternoon.

An albino coati mundl (otherwise known as a jeep) enjoys a good
laugh at the expense of onlookers at an outdoor show in New York. I!e
was exhibited by Mrs. Eugenia S Sharrock of that city, and is the only
known animal of Itt kind in captivity. Visitors didn't know if he was
bored," amused or hungry.
