50th anniversary on Sunday, March
5, begining at 10 o'clock.

Youth Crusade Rally
At Waynesville March 7
There is to be held Tuesday
night, March 7, at 7:30 p. m. at the
First Methodist church m Waynes
ville, a District Wide Youth Cru
sade Rally. The Waynesville dis
trict is composed of the following
counties: Transylvania, Haywood,
Jackson, Swain, Macon, Graham,
Cherokee, and Clay. From these
counties it is expected that 1000
young people will attend this great
Youth Crusade Rally.
These young people will hear two
most outstanding addresses : "Youth
Moves On," and "Ready for Life's.
Opportunities, by the Rev. W. A.
Kale of Mooresville, and Dr. W.
A. Stanbury of Asheville, respec
tively. The young people themselves
will have the responsibility of the
program. The leaders of the two
young peoples.' unions, Haywood
coun'ty, and the Jackson-Swain
counties, will be in charge of' the
program for the most part. Special
music and a mixed double quartette
will be an outstanding feature : of
the evening.

A. L. McLean Opens
Sheet Metal Business ,
A. L. McLean announces that
he is preparing to open a general
sheet metal, roofing and heating
business . in Franklin and will be
located in the McCoy building in
the rear of the Farmers Federa
tion. He plans to add plumbing at
a later date.
Mr. McLean has had wide . ex
perience in this line, having operat
ed a sheet metal, plumbing and
heating business in Asheville for
several years. He has been a resi
dent of Macon county for about
six years, and is well known
throughout this section.

school gym Wednesday night, Feb
ruary 22, by a score of 50 to 46

LITTLE ROBERT FINLEY
HAS BIRTHDAY PARTY
Robert Finley, son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. H. Finley! whose birthday
only comes, once every four years,
February 29, was entertained at a
party on Wednesday, March 1,
Mrs. Finley entertained 12 of
Robert's little friends at her home
on Riverview street, honoring him
on his third , birthday -anniversary.
The table was centered with a
beautiful white birthday cake, bear
ing three blue candles. ,
Indoor games were played during
the evening and at the conclusion
of the party, the hostess served
ice cream and individual cakes.
Each guest was presented a balloon
and a French harp as a souvenir.
The honoree was the recipient of
many little birthday gifts.
Those enjoying the party with
Robert were: Julia Moody, Sue
Williams, Martha Stockton, Nancy
Jane McCollum and Ann Cabe,
Douglas Nichols, III, Bobby Ty-
singer, jr., uanny Angei, iviax
Henderson, George Wells and Gray-
don Shuford.
Frank Murray has been confined
to his home this week suffering
with influenza.
Mr., and Mrs.' Oliver Guffey and
young daughter, of Hazard, Ky.,
spent Tuesday with Mr. Guffey's
brother, Lee Guffey and Mrs. Guf
fey. Miss Attava Dixon, field social
worker for area 21, was a visitor
at the WPA offices on Tuesday.
Miss Laura Holderness, area- so
cial worker, is making her home
with Mrs. Joe Dawdle. Miss Hold
erness recently joined the .staff of
the area WPA offices as successor
to George Johnson, covering the
territory of Graham,, Cherokee and
Clay counties.
Mrs. rrank ralmer and son,
Frank, Jr., of Akron, Ohio, and
Charles T. Palmer, of Shamrock,
Texas, came in Tuesday to spend
the remainder of the we"ek with
relatives and - friends in Franklin
and vicinity and in Clayton, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Church
spent Sunday at Nantahala, the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Ray.

Forest, North Carolina, estimated
to be 1,400 units (160 cubic feet per
unit) of chestnut extractwood more
or less. No bids of less than $0.40
per .unit for chestnut extractwood
will be, considered. $100.00 must be
deposited with each bid, to be ap
plied on the purchase price, re
funded or retained in part as liqui
dated damages, according to the
conditions of the sale. The right to
