TOM BRYSON HONORED WITH BIRTHDAY DINNER A very enjoyable dinner was that given by Mrs. C. Tom Bryson at her home at Cullasaja Sunday, hon oring her husband on his birthday anniversary. Among those enjoying the occa sion were: Mrs. James L. Bryson, Horace Bryson, Air. and Mrs. J. L. Higdon, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Corbin and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Higdon and family, Miss Annie Straine, Monroe Straine, Mr.s. Wayne Higdon and Miss Cal lie Deal. Miss Mildred Bryson came over from Brevard college, where she is a student, to attend the dinner. ' Miss Helen Sellers, who under went a thyroid operation on Mon day, is progressing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Nichols, Jr., and (son, ' Douglas III, left Thursday morning for different points in Florida, where they will .spend two weeks. Mrs. R. M. Waldroop, of Bryson City, has purchased the lot be tween the homes of Mrs. E. K. Cunningham and Dr. Eurman Angel on Harrison avenue, and work has been started .on the erection of a six-room brick house to be three stories in the rear, with steam heat and double garage. The infant son of Dr. and Mrs. Furman Angel, who has been critic ally ill since last Friday, was re ported to be .slightly improved Thursday. Miss Reta Bolick, clerk in the S & L store, is. spending her two weeks vacation with friends in Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. McArthur . Jolly have returned to their home in London, Ky., after being here for the death and funeral of Mr. Jol ly's father, Noah L. Jolly, and als6 for a visit with Mr. Jolly's sister, Mrs. J. Robert Parrish and Mr, Parrish, at their home on Franklin Route 3. ' Miss Elizabeth i McGuire has re turned from a month's visit with her sister, Mrs. W. B. Cooper and Mr. Cooper at their home in Ocala, Fla., and her aunt, Mrs. G, A. Hamilton and Mr. Haihilton at their home at Fort Myers, Fla. She also visited friends in Bradenton, Fla., while away, The Rev. Lyman A. Jolly has re turned to his home in Winston Salem, after being here during the sickness and death of - his father, Noah L. Jolly. TRIBUTE OF RESPECT In the passing of Edgar Van Hook I have lost a friend from boyhood, and one who was always trustworthy, true and faithful; hon est, industrious and very much in terested in his home and the wel fare of his family.
