Where soils are infected with stem rot or wilt organism, the stem and roots of the plants should be dipped in a 20-20-50 Bordeaux mix ture or dusted with a mixture com posed of 25 per cent monohydrated copper sulphate and 75 per cent lime just before planting. The .scurf infected roots and stems should have a thorough coating of" sulphur immediately before transplanting. All treated plants should be set in moist but not water logged soil. Q. How can ,1 prevent lice and mites from infesting my poultry flock? , f A. The most effective prevention is to thoroughly clean and disin fect the poultry house. Q. What is the best material for control of leaf spot and scorch in strawberries? A. The best spray at present is a 4-4-50 Bordeaux mixture. The mixture calls for four pounds of copper sulphate (bluestone) and four pounds of chemically hydrated lime to 50 gallons of water. Small er or larger amounts should be pre pared in the same proiortions. Dis solve, the copper sulphate in one third of the water, using a wood en, earthenware, or copper con tainer. The lime is put in the re maining water and, when the two are prepared, pour the copper sul phate .solution into the lime . sus pension. The two should be stirred constantly wnile mixing. Start spraying about the time plants re sume active growth and continue until they assume relative dormacy.
