CONLEY, PHONE 104 DUVALL-FOUTS Mrs. Hallie Duvall, of Franklin, announces the engagement and ap-: proaching marriage of her daugh ter, Dorothy Gladys, to Albert G. Fouts, of Franklin and Spruce Pine. The marriage will take place at, the home of the bride-elect's moth er in the early summer. Miss Duvall was formerly of Franklin, but for the past two years has, been making her home in Canton, where she is connected with the Imperial hotel. Mr. Fouts is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Fouts, of Franklin. He holds a position with the Nello L. Teer Construction company at Spruce Pine. ' GARDEN CLUB MEETS WITH MISS MARY WILLIS The Frankliin Garden Club met on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Carolina apartments on West Main street, the home of Miss Marv Willis for the regular monthly business and social meet ing. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Charles Melichar, presi dent. Following the reading of the minutes, reports of the secretary and from the different commit tees, Mrs. Frank M. Killian read a. very interesting paper on "Many Ideas ' for Gardening" which was very interesting as well as instructive. v Seven new members were taken into the club. They were : Mrs. Joel Tompkins, Mrs. I. T. Peek, Mrs. C. N. Dowdle, Mrs. James A. Sutton, Mrs- C. N. Dowdle. Mrs. James A Sutton, Mrs. Lester Henderson and Mrs. W. E. Furr, of Franklin, and Mrs. Albert L. Ramsey, of Franklin Route 3. , The president appointed the fol lowing committees : ' Program committee, Mrs. T. W. Angel, jr., cnairman; miss xwary Willis, Mrs. J. E. S. Thorpe and Mrs. Frank M: Killian. Flower show committee, Mrs. Frank Higdon, chairman ; Mrs. Harve L. Bryant, Mrs. Pearl Wright, Mrs. Roy G. Beshears, Mrs. Zeb W. Conley and Mrs. Lester S. Conley. v The prize committee consists of I Mrs. A. R, Higdon, chairman; Mrs. John Archer, Mrs. Henry W. Cabe, Mrs. Verna Greene May and Mrs. A. L. McLean. Mrs. Sam L. Rogers was ap pointed to make a scrap book for the club, with the assistance of the members. Mrs. James E. Perry was win ner. 'of the enjoyable contest held and was presented a bouquet of tulips. . Miss- Willis assisted by Mrs. W. C. Penn served delicious refresh merits . at the conclusion of the meeting. . ' . . Dowdle, honoring a number of visiting . scout executives and the trustees of the scout troops. The mothers of the scouts were invited to meet the head guests. The house was attractively deco rated with spring flowers. The tea table was covered with a lace cloth centered with a bowl of mixed flowers. Tall white candles in crys tal holders completed the table" dec orations. Tea was poured by Mrs. John Wasilik. . Out-of-town guests were: Mrs. Samuel L. Lumpkin, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ashcraft, Mr. W. A. Dobson, and Miss Hellen Gillard, Atlanta; Mr. and ' Mrs. A. W. Allen, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Love, Ashe ville; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Adams, Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. L, B. Nichols, Andrews; and Mr. and Mrs. Mercer Fain, Murphy. The local guests were : Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Conley, Mr. and Mrs. John Archer, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Church, Rev. and Mrs. Frank Blox ham and James Hauser. The girls were assisted in enter taining by the Scout Troop com mittee of the P.-T. A.: Mrs. Her bert Church, Mrs. Zeb Conley, Mrs. Gordon Moore, Mrs. Charles N. Dowdle, and Mrs. John Wasi lik. BAPTIST T. E. L. CLASS , The T. E. L. class, of the Frank lin Baptist church will have a party on Wednesday evening, May 9, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert A McGlamery on White Oak street. The party which is scheduled to begin at 8 o'clock will include members of the class, their hus bands and sweethearts and all the honorary members. Stunts and games will be played throughout the evening. A BAPTIST W. M. S. TO MEET THURSDAY The Woman's Missionary So ciety of the Franklin Baptist church will meet on Thursday afternoon, May 11, at 3 o'clock at the church for the regular busi ness and missionary program. Mrs. J. Horner. Stockton, chairman of Circle No. 2, will be in charge of the program. ,A11 members are urged, to be present. U. D. C. TO MEET NEXT MONDAY The Macon County Chapter of the United Daughters of Confed moeracy will hold their reg ular monthly meeting on Mon day afternoon, May 8, at 3 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Carl S. Slagle, on Cartoogechaye. All members are requested to attend. Mrs. Maude Potts and daugh ter, Wynona, spent several days in Bryson City with their mother-in-law and grandmother, Mrs. W: W. Potts. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watkins, L. T. Watkins and Mrs. Mary Howell, of Bishop, Ga., came up Tuesday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law and uncle, Charlie W. Stiles, which was held at the Union Methodist church Tuesday. Mrs. A. L. McLean, of West's Mill, spent Thursday of the past week in Knoxville, Tenn., visit ing Mrs. Walter. B. McLean; Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Sheffield and children and Mrs. E. B. Rickman and son, of Clayton, spent the week-end at West's Mill visiting Mr. Sheffield's and Mrs. Rickman's father, W. C. Sheffield. On their return home Monday they were accompanied by Mr. Sheffield who will spend several, weeks in Canton visiting, 1 Miss Fannie Edwards, who has been ill with pneumonia for the past two weeks at her home on Franklin Route 3, was reported to . be improving. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Watkins and Mrs. W. S. Price, of Highlands, and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Whit more, of Seneca, S. C, were here for the funeral of their brother-in-law, Charlie W. Stiles, Tues day. .
