TO MEET THURSDAY, JUNE 22 The Woman's Missionary Union of the Franklin Baptist church will meet for the regular monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon, June 23 at 3 o'clock. Circle No. 1 will meet at the home of Mrs. J. M. Carpenter; Circle No. 2, will meet with Mrs. W. G. Wilkie, at her home on the Georgia road, while Circle No. 3 will meet with Mrs. Henry D. West at her home on the Georgia road. The Heck Memorial program will be observed at these meetings, and an of'ering will be taken at this time. All members' are request ed to be present. U. D. C. MET MONDAY AT MOODY FARM The Macon County Chapter of the United Daughter of the Con federacy met on Mionday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Moody farm, with Mrs. C Frank Moody as hostess. In the absence of Miss Eliza beth Slagle, president, Mrs. Carl S. Slagle, presided over the .busi ness session. The chapter has assumed the ob ligation of keeping the plot, on which the Confederate" monument stands on the public square, clear of all rubbish and trash and the grass kept mowed. , . ' One of the three remaining con federate veterans, W. M. Roper, of Franklin Route 3, was reported to be a patient at Angel hospital. Members of the chapter were asked to visit him. ' A very educational, as well as interesting, paper on the life -and career of Jefferson Davis, was read by Miss Nora Leach. The next meeting will be held at the hiome of Miss Nora Leach, on West Main street, on Monday, July 10. At the conclusion of the meet ing delicious ice cream and cake were served by the hostess and her daughter, Miss Nora Moody. MRS. W. M. BRYSON HOSTESS AT MISCELLAEOUS SHOWER Mrs. W. M. Bryson entertained with a ' miscellaneous shower at her home at Cullasaja on Saturday evening, honoring Mrs. Weimer Gibson, the former Miss Edna Marthia Holland, of Cullasaja. The Bryson home was artistical ly arranged with bowls of pink rases and other summer flowers. Approximately 80 friends were present bringing dainty packages of attractive and useful gifts for the honorce. Mrs. Bryson assisted by her daughter, Miss, Annie Bryson, serv ed delicious ice cream and cake- Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Smith, Jr., and baby, of Greensboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Tessier, of Baton Rouge, La., are visiting their moth er, Mrs. Reba Tessier, at the home of 'their grandmother Mrs, Jesse Sloan. Miss Virginia Tessier will return to Greensboro with her sist er to spend the summer. Paul Kaby has been elected as vocational agriculture teacher in the Peachland high school near Wadesboro. Mr. Kaby, a son of the late John and Elsie Allen Raby of West's Mill, was among the 'Ma con county - boys to1 graduate at North Carolina State college at Raleigh last week. Mr. and Mr. P. F. Callahan have moved from an apartment in the old bank building on West Main street to the cottage on Pal mer street formerly occupied 'by Ben McCollum Mr. and Mrs. Hall Swain and small daughter, Betsy Ann, of Greenville, S. C, are .spending the summer with Mrs. Swain's mother, Mrs, W. W. Sloan at Sunnyside Farm. G, Lee Mclntyre, son of Mr. and Mrs.'John Mclntyre, of Frank lin Route 4, received his diploma from the J. W. Cannon high school at Kannapolis on June 6, after com pleting all required work without losing time from his job with the Cannon Mills company in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Clarke Soper, who have been visiting their sister in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the past 10 days, have returned to their home, on Ridgecrest drive. Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Blumenthal, of Royston, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. M. Gold, of Cornelia, Ga., spent Sunday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Blumenthal on Bidwell street. Mrs. Bart Fulcher has returned to her home on Franklin Route 2 after a few weeks' visit with her sister, Mrs. George Rush; her brother, L. S. Penland, and niece, Mrs. L. C. Swanson, all of Katonah, N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. Bart Fulcher spent the past week with friends and rel atives at Candler. She has done outstanding work in public speak ing and parliamentary procedure, and this year was tapped into Delta Epsilon Alpha, honor society for public speaking. Miss Rickman has accepted a position as teacher of histiory in the Gramling high school, ram- ling, S. C.
