CONLEY, PHONE 104 DUVALL-FOUTS A marriage of much interest to their Macon county friends was that of Miss Dorothy Gladys Du vall, daughter of Mrs. Hallie Du vall, Franklin, to Albert G.-Fouts, Franklin and Spruce Pine. The wedding took place June 2 at Clayton, Ga. The bride wore a white starched chiffon gown with a high neckline and puffed sleeves. Her corsage was of tiny white rosebuds. The couple was accompanied by Mrs. Duvall and Miss Nell Duvall, mother and sister of the bride, and -Mrs. Fred Smith and Mrs. G. T. Fouts, mother and sister of the bridegroom. , , The bride's father was the late R. R. Duvall. For the past two years she has been a resident of Canton, where she is connected lwith the Imperial hotel. She is a graduate of Franklin high school. . Mr. Fouts is the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Fouts, of Franklin, and now holds a position with the Nello L. Teer construction company of Durham. He is sta tioned at. Spruce Pine. .After a brief wedding trip the couple will reside at Spruce Pine. GARDEN CLUB SPONSORS CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND The Franklin Garden Club held a special meeting Monday after noon at the home of Miss Mary Willis, the purpose of the meeting being to talk over the project of a playground for the children. A community playground, it seems, has become a necessity, and it has been decided that three swings and a couple of benches will take care of amusing the chil dren. The lot chosen for the play ground is (between Kelly's Gift Shop and Thomas' store. Consent has been given for the lot to be used, and with such a splendid opportunity within grasp for keep ing the children of Franklin from playing on the streets, the Garden Club is more than willing to co operate with the people who are to buy the equipment for the project. Sutton, at their home on Franklin Route 2. Mr. and Mrs. John Ahcher and two children have returned to their home after .spending several days in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. George Reid, Jr., and son, and Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson, of Detroit, Micb., came in Sunday to attend the funeral of Mr. Reid's sister, Mrs. Nell Reid Mehaffey, and for a week's visit with Mr. Reid's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Reid, Sr., at their home on Franklin Route 4, and Mrs. Reid's and Mr. Anderson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. An derson, at their home on Harrison avenue. Mi&s Pete Dixon, of Grif ton, is spending several days with her sister, Mrs. Robert R. Gaines, and Mr. Gaines, at their home, Hill crest Drive, on Bidwell street. Mrs. John Edwards, and four children, of Asheville, are here for a visit to Mrs. Edwards' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry R. Franklin, at their home on Franklin Route 4- Miss Ruth Higgins left Monday for Chattanooga, Tenn., to attend summer' school at the University of Chattanooga. , Mrs. Sue Bryson, of Sylva, spent the week-end with her brother, R. C Sutton, and Mrs. Sutton, at their home on Franklin Route 2. Mr. and Mrs. James Porter Wat kins and small son, Jimmy, of Albany, Ga., spent the week-end in Franklin with Mr. Watkins' aunt, Mrs.. H. O. Cozad, and grand father, J. A. Conley. Charlie Williams and Miss Julie Rice motored to Hiawassee, Ga., to spend the week-end with relatives and friends. Mrs. M. A. Rowell, of Manchest er, Ga., is visiting her daughter, Mrs. T. S. Munday. Mrs. Rowell is accompanied by her three grand daughters, Misses Margery, Bever ly and Azile Banks, of Newnan, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Tessier and Jack Tessier, of New Orleans, La., spent the past week with their mother, Mrs. Reba Tessier, at her home in East Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Walton R. Smith returned to their home in New Orleans, La., Monday, after a visit to Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. . S. C. Leatherman, at their home at West's Mill. Manson Stiles, who is working in Atlanta, spent the week-end with Mrs. Stiles, at their home on Bid well street. Mis,, Virginia Tessier has re turned to her home here after a visit to her sister, Mrs. William Smith, and Mr. Smith, at their home in Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Moss and daughter, who have been in Cul lowhee for the past two months, liave returned to their home, Hill crest Drive, on Bidwell street. Mrs. Pearl Hunter has returned from an extended visit to her daughter, Miss Ida Lee Hunter, in Washington, D. G, and to friends in Charlotte, and Lynchburg, Via. She will spend the summer at the home of her brother, Mark L. Dowdle, on the Georgia road. Miss Catherine . Godwin, who is taking trainiing at Mercy hospital in Charlotte, is spending her two weeks' vacation with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Cunningham, at their home on Franklin Route 1. Mr. and Mrs. M. G, Highsmith and Mrs. Highsmith's mother, Mr& G. L. Arnold, of Jacksonville, Fla., are here for a visit with their sister and daughter, Mrs. Lake Ledf ord, at her home on the Georgia road. Mrs. Highsmith will be remembered as the former Miss Mae Harrison, while Mrs. Arnold was formerly Mrs. Ben Harrison, both of Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Dover R. Fouts, and son, D. H., of Burn,s,ville, spent part of last week with Mr. Fouts' father, Dr.' J. H. Fouts and Mrs. Fbuts, at their home on lotla street. Mr. and Mrs. William Smith and baby, have returned 1 to their home at Greensboro after spending a week with Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. Reba Tessier. The Rev. and Mrs. W. B. Under wood, of Douglasville, Ga., are spending several days in Franklin with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Weyman, at their home on Harrison avenue. Mr. Underwood is a former pastor of the Franklin Baptist church. J. E. Whitaker, of Bryson City and Andrews, succeeded Charles Russell on June 19 as manager at the Franklin branch of the A & P store. Mr, Russell resigned his po sition recently to take the manage ment of the new Esso Service Station being erected on Palmer street. Mrs. Herbert E. Church and Miss Elizabeth Slagle, returned last Thursday night from Wilson, where they had been attending the 34th Session 'of the Grand Chapter North Carolina Order of the East ern" Star. Mrs. Church was Grand Representative from the State of Michigan and is also secretary treasurer of the Secretaries associa tion and Miss Slagle was appointed by the Worthy Grand Matron as District Deputy Grand Matron for the 12th District, which includes Franklin; Little Miss Ann Lyle, who has been visiting her aunt in Wash ington, Ga., has returned home. Mrs. Ellis Clarke Soper was con fined to her home early in the week with a sore throat and cold. Captain George A. McBride and his family of New Orleans, La., have arrived in. Franklin for. the summer and have opened their home on Hillcrest drive. Workman Hurt In Fall From Pole Charles Garrison, of Atlanta, en gaged in work for the Southern Bell Telephone company, fell 40 feet from a pole' on the Tallulah Falls railway line in Macon county last Thursday afternoon and suf fered a fracture of the skull. He was rushed to Angel hospital where he was given treatment and his injuries were found to -be hot so serious as at reported.
