The business for the meeting will be to discuss ways by . which the boys can attend the New York World's Fair and to elect delegates to the state fair which is to be held at State college in July. Ledford Passes Friday At Home In Prentiss Section John Reynolds Ledford, .87, well known citizen and farmer ' of the Prentiss section, died late -last Friday night at his home follow ing an illness of several weeks. . Mr. Ledford was bom on May 7, 1852! He was a member of the Union Methodist church. On Sep tember 1 15, 1874, he was married to Miss Rachel Cornelia Ledford, of this county'. Fcncral . services were held on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Union Methodist church on the Georgia road. The Rev. J. C. Swaim, pastor, was in charge, of the services. Burial was in the church . cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles, Alex, Monroe, Carl and William Led ford and George Byrd. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Eliza Marina Ledford, and George Hansom Ledford, both of the Pren tiss community, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. PROGRAM FOR WEEK FRIDAY. Riley, a young minister who is in'CCC Camp F-2J at Otto, states that he is at the service of the people to. assist in revivals or to preach at any church where the pastor is absent. His address is Camp F-23, Otto, M C. Vacation Bible School Held At Iotla Church The churches of the Franklin circuit held .a daily vacation Bible school at the Iotla church June 14 to 25. The school was in the na ture of a demonstration school for training workers to lead in carry ing on this work. There were 25 leaders and 35 children taking part in the school. On Friday, June 16, representatives from the board of education of the Western North Carolina conference of the Methodist church came and made moving pictures of the school in action. These 'pictures will, in combination with others, be shown over the conference in promoting such work. The school closed with a picnic for the children and workers at Arrowood Glade Thursday, June 22, and commencement exercises at the Iotla church Sunday, June 25.. the school was under the direc tion of Miss Mattie McNinch of Charlotte. Miss McNinch is a worker in the First Methodist church of Charlotte and is said to be one of the most capable workers in the field of children's work throughout Methodism in North Carolina. The following workers helped with the school: Miss Jessie Mae Barnard, Mrs. Clyde Clark, Joe Dalton, Mrs. Joe Dalton, Mrs. Robert Fulton, Mrs. Leonard" Horn, Leo Hurst, Miss Elizabeth Meadows, Mrs. Robert Morgan. West, Jr. C.C.Jones Agricultural Students To Meet Saturday A meeting of the agricultural students of Franklin high school will be held next Saturday, July 1, at the high school building, ac cording to an announcement re ceived from E. J. Whitmire, voca tional teacher. The meeting will be held at 2 p. m., and all the boys are urged to attend as delegates to the state convention will be elected at that time. - Dies Sunday Night After Long Illness Christopher Columbus Jones, 73, died at the home of Mrs. Cora 'Potts' at West's Mill .'Sunday night about 12 o'clock following an ill-, ness of -several months. Death was caused by Bright's disease. Mr, Jones was a farmer and was born at. West's Mill where he spent his entire life. He was a good citizen and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived bv one cousin, W. L. Jones, of Flats. Funeral services were held at the Cowec Baptist church Monday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. R. F. Mayberry, pastor, and the Rev. W. L. Bradley in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Early Bradley, J. A. Clark, Robert Rickman, Frank Roper, .Leo Hurst and Ed H. Par-rish. Cliff side Lake Open For Swimming July 1 Cliff side Lake will be opened for swimming to the public commenc ing Saturday, July 1. All develop ments on the area have been com pleted. Life guards will be avail able at the beach at all times while swimming is permitted and the bathhouse, will be available for use. White river sand has been hauled in for the beach and has added considerably to the attractiveness of the entire area. A .spacious beach area has been laid out cov ered with the sand. Playground facilities, such as ,a water slide and swings, are available. A concrete diving platform has been complet ed and is ready for use, and two diving boards have been erected on it. Large crowds are expected over the 4th of July holiday and many picnic parties are planned for the area. An ideal combination is a swimming party and picnic at Cliff side Lake. " This entire area is to be opened on July 22 at a general celebration to be held at the lake. Swimming contests are to be held at this time and various other outdoor events.
