Mr, and Mrs. Fred Mehaffey, of
Enka, have announced the marriage
of their daughter, Miss Bonnie
Kate Mehaffey, to J. M. Roane, of
Enka, on June 3 in Greenville, S. C.
The bride wore a drawn blue
dress with white accessories.
Immediately after the ceremony,
the couple left for a short wedding
trip to Virginia and Washington,
D. C
Mr. Roane is tfre son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. II. Roane, of Frank
lin, and is employed at the Amer
ican Enka corporation.
The couple will reside at Enka.

The Woman's Missionary society
of, the Franklin" Methodist church
will hold the regular monthly
meeting at the home of Mrs. Lee
Barnard on Thursday afternoon,
July 6. All members are urged to
be present.

household necessities will be on

and other good things to eat. There
will also be flower plants for sale.
This sale is being sponsored by
members of the F. S. Johnston
Bible class of the Franklin Metho
dist church and the proceeds will
be used for the children's orphan
age. The public is invited to attend.

The Woman's Missionary society
of the Franklin Baptist church
will meet Thursday afternoon, July
6, at 3 o'clock, at the church for
the regular missionary and business
meeting. Mrs. A. R. Higdon,
chairman of Circle No. 1, will be
in charge of the program.

ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB
Mrs. Sloan Murray entertained
the Tuesday afternoon Bridge club
at "Desert-Bridge" at her home on
the Georgia Road with two tables
in play.
The room where the guests as

ly arranged with bowls of nast
uriums and white sweet peas.
Mrs. John Wasilik, Jr., was win
ner . of the high score prize, while
second high prize was won by Mrs.
Hugh Creasman.

is spending this week with his sist

Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Penn went
to Bryson City Saturday to attend
the wedding of Miss Mildred Pen
land to Daniel D. Wood.
Mrs. Emma Huskins, of Asheville,
is' spending several days with her
sister, at her home on Harrison
avenue, and other relatives in
Franklin.
Ross Zachary, of Concdrd, and a
Mr. Harris, president of the Rotary
club of Concord, who have been
attending the Rotary International
convention in . Cleveland, Ohio,
spent the week-end at the home of
Miss Annie Slagle with Mr. Zach
ary's family, who spent the past
week visiting there. Mr. Zachary,
who was recently elected secretary
and treasurer of the Rotary club
at Concord, was sent as a delegate
to this convention.
Mrs. R. M. Waldroop, of Bry
son City and Franklin, has moved
into her new brick home on Harri
son avenue between the homes of
Mrs. E. K. Cunningham and Sam
W. Mendenhall.
Mrs. Charles L. Ingram, Mrs.
W, M. Fuller, Miss Johnnie Nix
and Bill Ingram motored to Ashe
ville Friday, to, meet Mrs. Bill
Ingram who has been teaching
school in the Qregon schools. Mrs.
Ingram finished her term of school
before joining her husband and
relatives here.
Mrs. W. M. Fuller, of Monti
cello, Ga., spent last week with
her mother, Mrs. Charles L. Ing
ram. Mr. and Mrs. G. Perry Cunning
ham and three children, of Cor
nelia, Ga., spent the first of( the
week visiting Mr. Cunningham's
sister, Miss Bess Cunningham, at
her home on Franklin Route 2.
Mrs. William Jacobs, of Verdon,
Okla., came in Monday to spend
the summer with her sister, Miss
Nettie Hurst, at her home on
Franklin Route 3. Mrs. Jacobs
will be remembered as the former
Miss Judith Hurst, of Macon
county.
Mr. and Mrs. Newton Cunning
ham and three children, of Akron,
Ohio, came in Sunday for a visit
with Mr. Cunningham's sisters,
Mrs. George Brown and Miss Bess
Cunningham, and Mrs. Cunning
ham's mother, Mrs. M. F. Jones.
Mrs. Ina Henrv Duvall. who has
been a patient in Angel hospital
for several days, has returned . to
her home in East Franklin and is
reported to be much improved.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Houston,
of Highlands, spent the week-end
with Mrs. Houston s parents, Air.
and Mrs. Harley Roper, of Frank
lin Route 1.
Miss Helen Cox, who has been
spending several weeks, with her
aunt, Mrs. W. H. Graybeal, on
Franklin Route 1, has returned to
her home in Asheville.
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Duvall and
two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Hous
ton and Miss Hazel Duvall, of
Candler, spent the week-end on
lotla visiting relatives and ( friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip A.' Newton
and two children returned to their
home in Waldon, Ark., after spend
ing a week here with Mrs. Newton's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Peek.
Mrs. Peek accompanied them bad'
and will spend some time there.
Misses Ada Belle and Fannie
Mae Sherrill have returned from
a week's visit with their aunt, Mrs.
Emma Kincaid, at Dillsboro.
Mrs. M. F. Opperman and daugh
ter, Miss Palquita Opperman, of
Philadelphia, Pa., arrived Friday
for a visit with Mrs. Opperman's
brother, Harley Dunbar, and Mrs.
Dunbar.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Greenwood,
of Gainesville, Ga., spent the week
end with Mr. Greenwoods aunt,
Miss Lassie Kellv at the Kelly
Tea Room and with Mrs. Patton's
mother. Mrs. Erwin Patton, at her
home on Franklin Route 1.
Mrs T. D. Porter, of Asheville,
is spending several days here with
her mother. ' Mrs. W. I. Zachary,
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry S. Higgins.
The Rev. and Mrs. . George Peek,
and son, Porter, of Richwood, West
Va., came in Sunday to attend the
funeral of Mr. Peek's sister, Mrs.
Laura Pickens, held at Cullasaja
Monday morning. They will remain
in Macon county for several days
for a visit with relatives and
friends.
Ona 'Matlock came up from Ma
rietta, Ga., Monday for a short
visit with his parents; Mr. and
Mrs. J. B. Matlock, at their home
at West's Mill.
Howard Wilson Ledbetter, newly
appointed assistant RR supervisor
of the, farm security administration
in Macon and Jackson counties,
has arrived in Franklin to assume
his duties. Mr. Ledbetter is a
native of Asheville, and is a gradu
ate of North Carolina State col
lege, at Raleigh. He comes to his
new work with a very high rec
ommendation. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Page, and
daughter, Mary Frances, have re
turned from a two months trip to
the west coast. While in California
they attended the Golden Gate
Exposition and on the return trip
toured the Rocky Mountains.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Church
attended the wedding of Miss Mil
dred Penland to Daniel D. Wood
at the First Baptist church- in
Bryson City Saturday,
Mr. and Mrs. John Davenport
and daughters, Frances and . Bea
trice, of Boston, Mass., and former
residents of Franklin, have arrived
to- spend the summer with Mr.
and Mrs. L. H. Page.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arnold and
daughter, Freda Mae, spent Mon
day in Asheville. .
Mrs. Neil Johnston and little
daughter, Mary Ann, have returned
from Lufkin, Texas, where they
have been living for several months.
On their return they were accom
panied by Mrs. Johnston's sister,
Mrs. Don Young and Mr. Young
and two children, who will spend
some time here with Mrs. C. C.
Cunningham, mother of Mrs. Johns
ton and Mrs. Young.
William McGuire, of Charlotte,
spent the week-end with his moth
er and sister, Mrs. W. B. McGuire
and Miss Elizabeth McGuire.
J. E. Lancaster, of Henderson
ville, -was a visitor in Franklin
Tuesday.
Dr. and. Mrs. T. J. O'Neil went
to Knoxville, Tenn., Thursday on
account of the illness and death of
their sister-in-law, Mrs. E. W.
Mather,, returning to their home
following the funeral Monday.

Charles Matlock, came up from
Winston-Salem Tuesday for a short
visit with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James Morrison, at their
home at West's Mill. .
Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Highsmith
have returned to their home in
Jacksonville, Fla., after a visit
with Mrs. Highsmith's sister, Mrs.
Lake Shope and Mr. Shope. Mrs.
G. L. Arnold, who accompanied
them to Franklin will remain for
several . days with her daughter,
Mrs. Lake Shope and Mr. Shope.
