of West's Mill, have, announced
the marriage of their daughter, Miss
' Kmma Lee -Tallent, to Lemuel
Clark, of West's Mill. The wed
ding ceremony was performed in
Clayton, Ga., on Friday, August 25,
with R. C. Kamey, ordinary, of
ficiating. Mrs. Clark was attired in a
lovely navy blue crepe dress. .
Mr. Clark is the son of D. L.
Clarke, of West's Mill, and the
late Mrs. Clark.
The couple will reside at the

In a letter from Arthur H. Hut
chinson of Atlanta, the following
item is of interest: Mrs. Frank
Bryson who is a former Atlanta
girl, and who married Mr. Bryson
a few months ago, expressed in
terest in hearing about her hus
band's home and kin in Macon
county. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson now
live near Tuscon, Ariz., where Mr.
Bryson is connected with the U.
S. forest service.

office Monday a twin grape. One
was. normal size and the other
about the average size. He had
picked these off a vine at his
home. -
Mrs. L. W. Ballard, of Weaver
ville, is spending several days "with
her daughter, Mrs. Fulton Bradley,
and her cousin, Mrs. J. W. Cun
ningham, on the Bryson City road
near Franklin.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E, Church,
and son, H. E., Jr., spent Sunday
at Nantahala the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. J. B. Ray.
Miss Ruth Higgins is spending
some time in Atlanta visiting her
cousin, Miss Eugenia Zachary,
Lyman Higdon, Jr., left last week
for Georgia Military Academy, At
lanta, where he will be a student

Miss Virginia E. Smith, who has
been spending the summer with
her. parents, Dr. and Mrs. F. T.
Smith, at their home on Bidwell
street, left Friday for Richmond,
Va., where her sister, Mrs. F. H.
Scroggs, is in the hospital. She
will return later to Roanoke Rap
ids, where she will resume her
duties as supervisor of public
school music in the consolidated
city schools. '
Kenneth Raby, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jess Raby, of Indian Head,
Md., is visiting his grandmother,
Mrs. C. A. Raby, at her home at

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jacobs
and three daughters, of Akron,
Ohio, came Sunday for a visit with
Mr. Jacobs brother, Sam Jacobs;
and sister, Mrs. Lex Penland, at
their homes on Bonny Crest,
Ward McKinney, of Hiawassee,
Ga., who received serious injuries
to his eyes last week while work
ing in a sawmill near his home, is
here with hi swter, Mrs. Med ford
Messer, and Mr. Messer, at their
home on the Murphy road, while
undergoing treatment here. One eye
had to be removed and it is fear
ed that he will lose the sight of
the other one.
Miss Ann Bruner, of Newberry,
S. C, is here for a visit with Miss
Sallie Lou Moore, at her home on
West Boulevard.
Mrs. R. D. Sisk is spending a
few day, in Dillsboro visiting her
niece, Mrs. Frank Jacobs and Mr.
Jacobs. ',

short trip to New England where

Mrs. Flora Vanhook, 81 of the
Prentiss community is a patient
in Angel hospital suffering with a
broken leg. In a fall received on
Wednesday afternoon while visit
ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
M. L. Dowdle, Mrs. Vanhook broke
her left leg about four inches be
low the hip joint. Her condition
was reported to be very satisfac
tory Tuesday,
Miss Charlotte Young, a teacher
in the Franklin high school, who
has been spending the .summer
near Asheville, returned to Frank
lin Monday.
Mrs. J. H. Horsley and son,
Jimmy, and Mrs. Sam Gibson' and
children went to Kidgecrest on
Wednesday of the . past week to
hear Dr, George M'ruett, who has
been in a meeting there for the
past two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Hulse and
two children, of Ontario, Cain.,
came in last week for a visit with

Dover R. Fouts, of Burnsville,
was elected Councellor of the 18th
Judicial District Bar association
at a meeting recently held at Lake
Lure. Mr, Fouts is the son of Dr.
J. H. Fouts, of Franklin, and is a
frequent visitor here".

where she will teach mathematics
