Missouri-Towa' Boundary War Nears End

A hundred-year boundary war between Missouri and Iowa, cause of
the ludicrous "honey war" of 1839, ends on New Year's eve when 200
acres of Missouri land goes to Iowa and 2,000 Iowa acres are given to
Missouri. The trouble was caused by a change in the Dcs Moines river,
boundary between the two states. Map shows the river's present course,
while dotted linos indicate the route 50 years ago.

On Tuesday the crew ,of the big
German luxury liner, Columbus,
set fire and scuttled their ship
480 miles east of New York to
avoid capture by a British 'de
stroyer. The survivors were res
cued at nightfall by an American
naval cruiser. The ship, third larg
est in the .German, merchant Ma
rine, was enroute .home from Vera
Cruz, Mexico.

THE WAR IN FINLAND
The Russians have met with de
termined resistance in Finland and
have been repulsed ' with great
losses, lln the north they have
penetrated a short distance, the
only front on which they have
made headway. On Tuesday a Rus
sian air arniada swept the south'
ern coast of Finland bombing a
half dozen towns and setting fire
to a port, before anti-aircraft guns
drove them off.
GERMANY CLAIMS SUCCESS
IN AERIAL BATTLE
A German - .pursuit squadron
fought a fleet of raiding British
bombers on Monday over Helgo
land bay in what was declared as
"the greatest air battle in "all his
tory". The German command
claimed 40 British planes shot
down. The British announced 7
lost and 12 wr more German fight
ers . shot down.
ALLIES AID FINNS
The allied supreme war council
will give Finland all moral and
material aid possible without
WRakuuing the western front, was
announced in I'aris Tuesday. In
Washington, the first military aid
to. Finland was .officially disclosed
with the sale of 44 high speed
lighting planes to the Finland gov
ernment, that had been built for
the V. S. navy. ' '
