James. Lieutanant and Mrs. Phillips are at home in San Diego, Cal., where Lieutenant Phillips is stationed on the flagship, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Phillips is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hill; of the Horse Cove section and great-granddaughter of the late Stanhope Hill .and Dr. Charles L. Horace Bryson, who has been taking treatment at a veterans' 'hos pital in - Johnson City, Tenn., re turned to his home at West's Mill last week. Mrs. St. Clair Anderson returned to her home here Sunday after a few weeks' visit with her daughter, Mrs. F. J. Porter and Mr. Porter, in Richmond, Va. Frank , L. Henry, Jr., who has been working in New York, came - in last week for a. visit with his family at their home on River view street and his parents at their home on West Boulevard. Air. Henry, -who recently received injuries at his work, is much im proved. Mrs. Jeter Snyder, who under went an operation at Angel hos pital on last Wednesday, return ed to her home in Sylva Wednesday-' Mr. and Mrs, S. H. Miss Helen Patton, who is teach irig art at Western Carolina Teach ers' College at Cullowhee, spent the week-end with her father, Robert A. Patton, at his home on Harrison avenue. The refreshment committee is composed of Mrs. F. H. Potts and Mrs. J. E. Potts, MAYOR EDWARDS RETURNS FROM FLORIDA TOUR Mayor W. W. Edwards reached home Sunday after a two weeks' tour of Florida with other mayors and civic leaders of Western North Carolina towns! Mr. Edwards states that Florida is years ahead of Western North Carolina in adver tising, but he feels that this trip has been the means of hundreds of dollars worth of advertising for this section. Mr. Edwards said that he had a mighty fine trip, arid especially enjoyed his visits to St. Petersburg, Tampa, Miami and Fort Pierce; that the touring party was royally entertained in, every ! city where it stopped. He expressed his appreciation for the many courtesies shown by the drivers of the , two busses that were furnished for the tour by the Smoky Mountain Stage company and the Queen City Coach com pany. Mr. Edwards highly recom mends these busses as a means of pleasant travel. Potts, February 16. The guests came dressed in costumes representing famous people whose birthdays were in February. "Washington Crossing the Delaware'', was among the games played. The favors were valentines with ribbon streamer,? for each guest to draw. Refresh ments were carried out in valen tine colors. Mtss Potts also entertained ; few friends at tea oh Washing ton's birthday, when the' tea table was graced with a white cake deco rated with numerous flags. FIRE ALARM GONGS INSTALLED AT SCHOOL Highlands school has completed the installation df two centrally controlled 8-inch fire alarm gongs. The signal bell will be used in the fire drills, also at the noon recess, and for dismissal in the afternoon. The lafge bell will continue to be used for the morning opening and the after lunch opening of school. MRS. GILBERT HOSTESS TO CARD CLUB Mrs, E. R. Gilbert entertained the card club last week at a George Washington contract party. Mrs. S. T. Marett and Dr. Jessie Z. , Moreland were guest players, completing the three tables. Score cards were red, white and blue hatchets. Miss Sara Gilder won top score prize, Mrs. Tudor Hall ' the traveling prize, 'and the con solation, a salt and pepper set wrapped and tied, to represent two oversize cherries', went to Dr. Moreland. Mrs. Hall and Mrs. T. C. Harbison assisted the hostess in serving a sa?ad course followed by delicious cherry tarts topped with whipped cream. Benson Neely, is in Angel hospital suffering from a broken shoulder and severe chest injuries. Mr. Barnes' condition is reported to be serious. Mrs. Sidney. McCarty, Jr., and two children left Tuesday for a month's' visit with Dr. and Mrs. S. L. McCafty in Orlando, Fla., making the trip from Augusta with Dr. McCarty who met them in that city. The home of George Webb in the Flat Mountain section was de stroyed by fire about 2 o'clock on the morning of February 22. The Misses Sarah and Peggy Thompson, students at Queens Chicora college, spent the past week-end with their mother, Mrs. H. P. P. Thompson.
