Bryson and the late Mrs. Bry son, of West's Mill, and is now employed by the Frank J. Knight company in Detroit. Mr. and Mr.s. Bryson plan to make their home in Detroit. PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING The Woman's Auxiliary of the Franklin Presbyterian church met at the manse on Thursday of last week, for its annual meeting. A delightful luncheon preceded the business session. Mrs. Hayne Ar thur, the president, presided over the meeting. Reports of officers and cause secretaries were heard. Following these a very impres sive installation service for new officers was conducted by the past or, the Rev. J. A. Flanagan. The officers, for the coming year are: president, Mrs. Hayne Arthur; vice president,, Mrs. Geo. Slagle; secre tary, Mrs. Geo. Brown; treasurer, Mrs. J. A: Flanagan; historian, Mrs. W. B. McGuire. Secretaries of causes are : foreign missions, Mrs. Geo. Slagle; home missions; Mrs, Wilson Smart; Christian education and ministerial relief, Miss Lily Rankin; religious education, Mrs. Miss Virginia Slagle, who is teaching school in Lockhart, S. C, accompanied by Mis, Sarah Jones, spent the week-end with Miss Slagle's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Slagle, at their home on West Main street. Mitchell Ashear returned to his home here last Friday, after spend ing six weeks: in Pittsburgh, Pa., with his sisters, Mrs. Sam Gorra, Miss Martha Ashear and Mrs. Mary Ashear. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Reeves have moved from the Palmer ap artment on Palmer street to the Patton house on (the Georgia, road recently built by Lawrence Patton. Ralph O. Landrum and sister, Mrs. Ernest Johnson, came up from Day tona Beach, Fla., Thurs day to attend the funeral of their mother, Mrs. W. P. Landrum. On their return to Daytona Beach Sunday they were accompanied by their father, who will .spend two weeks there visiting. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Kesler and son, Billy, spent the week-end here with Mrs. Kesler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Angel, Sr. Gus Leach is confined to his bed at his home on West Main street, suffering with influenza, Mr. and Mrs. J, E. Whitaker spent Sunday in Andrews with Mr. Whitaker's mother, Mrs. Rhoda Whitaker. Mrs. C. O. Ramsey, who is teach ing school at Spruce Pine, is spending several days . with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L.. Bry son, at the Bryson hotel. , . Mr& Sam D. Alexander and young son, , Samuel D., Jr., arrivedy in Franklin Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Alexander's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Leach. Mrs. Alex ander will, be remembered as the former Miss Betty Leach. . Charles Grindstaff . has returned from Asheville where he visited relatives and friends. Wintori Perry, John Crawford and Jimmy Perry, all students at the University of North Carolina, are spending the spring holiday here with their respective parents, Mrs. Charles A. Raby, of the Oak Grove community, has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ed Whittington, who has been ill Mrs. Whittington was reported to be improving Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Clarke Soper, Mrs. Carl P. Cabe and St. Clair Anderson spent Saturday in Ashe ville. , Willard Pendergrass, Mac Set ser, Brownlow Addington and Sex ton ' Vinson, Tvho are attending State college in Raleigh, spent the week-end here with their respec tive parents. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Conley, Mr, and Mrs. Herbert E. Church and the Rev. Harry S. Williams went to Asheville Saturday to see "Grapes of Wrath." Mrs. W. T. Moore and Miss Lassie Kelly recently spent the day with the Rev. and Mrs. Abernethy at their home at Rutherford Col lege. Mr. Abernethy, who has had to have one of his feet amputated since leaving Franklin, may possibly lose the other one. Despite his ill ness, he was found to be very cheerful. He was a former pastor of the Franklin Methodist church Mrs. Z. V. Morris, of Bryson City, came up Tuesday for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Whit aker and Mr. Whitaker at their home on Main street. George Hunnicutt, who had his appendix removed at Angel hispital the first of the week, is doing nicely. March Bride . f V ! Bennett at their home on Iotla, 'has returned to Western Carolina Teachers' college at Cul lowhee, where she is a student. She was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs Hansel Bennett, who sepnt the day there visiting. ' ' Mr. and Mrs. Neville Sloan, of Atlanta, are spending several days in Franklin while their son, Bobby, is in -Angel hospital recovering from a tonsil operation. . Interesting Old Paper Owned By Mrs. Slagle ; Mrs. Henry Slagie brought to The Press office Saturday a very interesting old newspaper, "The Herald, published at Webster, in Jackson county. The paper is dat ed June 28, 1900, and is issue No. 10, volume 42, new series, which would indicate that the paper had been published for more than 42 years. .. The paper was edited by W. C. Tompkins, and contains a long ac count of the Republican convention which nominated William "McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt for a sec ond term. It also contains a notice of the death of Dr. Lucas at his corundum mines in Macon county. The paper carries .some local ad vertising and many ads for various patent medicines.
