Henry Ford Keeps Older Men On Jobs The following story has been re leased by the Associated Press: Henry Ford doubts that there are "enough brains under SO (years of age) to supply the man agement needed in industry." He said so today in a state ment endorsing President Roose velt's National Employment Week proclamation, particularly the ap peal for jobs for men more than 40 years of age. The proclamation fixed the first week in May as National Employment Week. "My own opinion is that men do not tome to full usefulness un til they are 40," said Mr. Ford, who despite his advanced years has no intention of "retiring." "For years," he added, "1 have advocated the employment of men over 40 becau.se their experience, steadiness and judgment are ab solutely necessary to the best suc cess of industry." Mr. Ford said that of. the 85, 967 Ford workers in the Detroit area 37,433 are more than 40 years old. The oldest employee, he said, is 87 and was hired at . 70. . "I still have the first man I ever hired that was before 1 was married and before I was in busi ness," Mr. Ford went on. "He worked with me on a little saw mill, and he still is working with me. I don't believe in retiring men for age. 1 believe the longer they work, the longer they live." Mr. Ford was almost 40 yeans old when he founded the small automobile business that developed into his present great industrial empire. v The Ford Company has no old age retirement rule. v The Highway Safety Division has revoked 27,367 North Caro lina drivers' licenses since 1935.
